Re: Maniac drivers who speed through crosswalks (and stop signs)

In Downtown the cops are some of the biggest offenders. They routinely run STOP signs and fail to signal turns. I often see cops chatting on their cellphones while exceeding the speed limit. Why would they enforce laws that they don't seem to understand themselves?

Not since President of French Club Robbed of Lunch Money in my high school newspaper have I been so shocked by a headline. I mean, unless the guy had been mugged during the actual parade, his association to it has no relevance to this story. IMO.

Welcome. It wasn't you or your lady but the style of writing that gave me "douche chills". I hope you two can enjoy your new adventure as JC residents. I apologize if it felt personal but it was not meant that way. Good Luck. The "push out the poor" types on this site can be pretty awful in their arrogant tone as well.

I went by the Ale House yesterday. They now have a new menu and it definitely is a nice change of pace. They have gone toward more bar friendly food as well as some larger dinner portions. I tried the chicken wrap and it was good as was the caeser salad. Hopefully this will be a change for the better.

Get over it and every condo that was mentioned in the last few "the hunts" was sold by different real estate companies so drop the conspiracy theories. People are really loving JC and much to the chagrin of a select few, more people are coming. I was one of them and I am very happy with my decision to move here from NYC. Go ahead I await the nasty comments telling me to go back to NYC or Ohio even though I've never been to Ohio.

Re: Barack Obama for President

I remember a few years back getting a call to work on a Michael Moore directed music video for Rage Against the Machine. I wasn't interested but some friends did the shoot and told me the stories later. Moore took the band and the crew down to Wall Street for an "impromptu" concert. The band started playing and the cameras rolled. Moore wanted some great footage of the cops arresting either himself or the band or both. The cops on duty refused to arrest them and simply asked them to hurry up with their shots and move along. As much as he tried the cops resisted falling into his trap and finally Moore had some extras dressed as cops to fulfill his vision of anarchy. Moore is first and foremost an entertainer. He has a lot to say but so does my barber.

I wonder if there's a way to sue the city to get it to enforce traffic laws.

If you sue them for that also make sure to also make them fix all those damn potholes in downtown. Like all of f%$#@!# downtown is filled with pot holes especially around the Grand St area.

http://mycusthelp.com/JERSEYCITYNJ/_cs/RequestSelect.aspx you can report potholes and lots of other stuff on the official Jersey City website after you join (it's free). I happen to think that potholes may be the only way to slow some folks down in this city! Natural speed bumps! ( If you consider blacktop natural).

Thank God this woman is not dead. The driver should get more then a summons and now maybe the City/JCPD will do something about our Third World like traffic problems. Now that somebody has been hurt of course!

I think increased enforcement of existing stop signs makes way more sense than putting in new ones. Here's my master plan; can be adapted for any intersection but I'm using the one that affects me the most:

Step #1: Put plainclothes officer on foot at the corner of Wayne and Barrow

Step #2: Park patrol cruiser on Columbus at corner of Columbus and Barrow

Step #3: Every time a car rolls through the stop sign at Wayne & Barrow instead of coming to a complete stop (about 85% of the time), plainclothes radios to the patrol cruiser.

Step #4: Profit

Step #5: More $$ for more of this type of enforcement around downtown

Step #6: Downtown Jersey City develops a reputation amongst commuters as having some of the most draconian traffic enforcement around

Step #7: Commuters avoid downtown streets

Step #8: Downtown becomes much safer for pedestrians

+1000! Choose whatever corner you like and you will get the same results.

Step #9 Net many of those folks with outstanding warrants/guns/drugs etc.

TRASHCAN SALE!!!

I am having a huge stoop sale this coming weekend because my inventory of "used" garbage cans is getting backed up! There will be a variety of styles and colors in both metal and plastic! Some come pre-labled with an address of your choice*!!! My "importers" have scoured the world/neighborhoods to find only the best cans so come on down!!!!

*We take no responsibility for pre-labled cans. The management cannot take trade-ins. No returns or exchanges. Not responsible for critters (possums, racoons, transients etc.) which may inhabit cans. Financing available.

The menu was exactly the same as when Maggie owned it. The new owner seemed to not know if he wanted a Bar or a Restaurant or a Sports Bar or both. The space is too small for both. Personally I think they do bar food better than all that other stuff. Too much fish etc. I was also troubled by the new owners involvement in getting the Harvest Cart tossed from the neighborhood and the many drunk cops that hung out made it like a "sausage factory". Contrary to what many say the food had degraded long before Maggie sold and seemed to get better with the new guy although the atmosphere sucked at times. I think a family friendly sports bar would be great. Chicken Fingers, Mozz Sticks, Burgers etc. BTW I thought the wait staff was always great and attentive.

Yeah, I got to exercise my acting chops as one of the many Verizon "network" people following around Paul the "can you hear me now" guy. The Beacon was very impressive. They have really brought a sparkle back to the old detail in the building we were shooting in. I didn't get to see any of the units but the over-all impression was that they are not doing shoddy work. They even had elevator operators and a screening room for the residents. Yes, the surrounding neighborhood can be dicey but so too can the one around Van Vorst Park. I guess condo sales are down all over the country so adding the rental option will certainly not hurt. If I still had that pioneering spirit I would not hesitate to give the Beacon a shot. Well, I'll take a brouchure...... BTW Look for the Verizon spot with the guy doing laundry and the two creepy kids alla "The Shining".

Re: Stop Signs on Erie Street - Steven FUlop

Not for nothing but in regards to that flashing sign they always put up, isn't that what speed limit signs are for? Enough of alerting speeders that they might get a ticket and how about actually writing some. I have lived downtown for 20 years and have seen about 6 to 8 actual traffic stops by the police in 20 YEARS! As for the residents who live along Erie St. be careful about demanding speed bumps. They will literally shake your homes. Also, lots of stop signs will vastly increase noise as cars slow down and speed up. (Stand near a stop sign for a few minutes and you will see what I mean) Plain and simply the Cops should enforce the traffic laws and stop the speeders! How is that for a novel idea! And as I and others have stated numerous times perhaps those traffic stops will uncover some folks with outstanding warrants, drugs or even guns!!! Killing two birds with one stone! It ain't rocket science Fulop, Comey, McDonough, and Healy!!!!

I live in the PAD too, and I love the fact that all the Redevelopment is happening. I understand people?s concerns about conserving the historic factory buildings, but lets call a spade a spade. As of right now, I wouldn't allow my wife to walk the streets at night through that area (although crime is low, it just doesn't feel safe). Second those buildings are ugly (they resemble crack houses); I don't know how you could renovate those buildings to attract anyone. Third and most important which no one mentions, is MONEY. It cost a ton of money to renovate/ build anything especially downtown JC. Everyone complains, yet I didn't see you break out your checkbooks to place a bid for any of these projects to build to your personal specs, and the reason you didn?t is because there are only a few firms in the northeast that can make that size of an investment. So if Toll is willing to write the check to clean up our PAD and make it a more desirable location, I applaud them. And if they need greater density to make a profit then so be it (you wouldn?t do it for free). All I would only ask of the town council is to have a heavy hand in the decision making as to how the buildings will look, and the quality of the work is superior so that the end product will attract the upper echelon. In 5-10 years the PAD will be more desirable than anywhere else in Hudson county if we do it correctly. Inside A and Trump are turning out to be great projects with class A tenants.
Does anyone know how Onyx Equity is doing with 30 Montgomery, I am really excited to see what happens there. Columbus Circle is a great location in NY, if they turn that project into something like that, this town will skyrocket!

What a Douche. Perhaps the Douchiest Shill post ever. "Class A" douche.

Confiscated items cannot be recovered by their owners. They're eventually taken to a foundry and melted down, according to a spokesman for Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez, who added that he hopes people will be more careful about what they are carrying in the future.

Why should the people be more careful? Keep'em coming. What a great way to get weapons off the street.

I understand that Hamilton Place will make parking spots available to "non-residents" for $200.00 a month to help off-set their condo fees. This may help alleviate some congestion as far as street parking goes.
