Smith and Chang: I went in this weekend. They have housewares, vintage and new stuff. They didn't have everything priced yet and they said more stuff was coming in soon. They have some nice things. The furniture is also for sale (except the dining tables that I wanted). It could be a good place for gifts, too.

Any chance the table you were eyeing was the one with the driftwood legs and matching benches? I was ogling those beauties!

I was really impressed with their mix of objects. Too bad they didn't open 2 weeks ago when I was scrambling for unique gifts.

It might be good for making stock. I've never made lobster stock before but what a way to then make some tastey lobster risotto.

I plan to drive but 5+ days in a car with my cats seems like torture for everyone involved.

Thanks to all for the suggestions!

No - you're right - putting a small, scared animal in a container underneath a cold underbelly of a plane isn't cruel - its a regular party.

Hopefully this person will rent a car and drive cross-country - or pay up so the cats are properly looked after.

Pet shipping services in JC?
Home away from home
Home away from home

I'm looking for any information regarding cross country pet shipping from Jersey City or nearby. I'm looking to get two cats from JC to LA in the near future. Has anyone ever shipped a pet? How did the pet handle the trip? How much did it cost? What service did you use?

oooo!
Alexander Hamilton! JC's first federalist themed bar? Or anti-federalist (depending on who you talk to)?

I'm hoping they open soon. They're on my list of places to shop for Christmas gifts this year in my quest to keep it local.

I noticed they now have signs on the windows.

I'm now buying my deli meat from here instead of shoprite. I also purchase the half and half for my office here. Many Sunday mornings their egg and cheeses have saved me from hangover certain death. They're very friendly but I agree, a little slow sometimes.

I had some really bad guinness last weekend at HPAH. I'm not sure it was even guinness. And the music was pretty bad too.

I like sitting outside there but the beer makes me question a return.

I would love a weekly figure drawing class or painting class. I have looked into the local colleges but the prices are a little too high for me.

I wasn't really keen on the whole clinic atmoshpere at Newport Medical Associates. They did take me at a moment's notice though.

Can anyone recommend a general practitioner in jc? I have only been to some of the clinics in the downtown area and am looking for something a little less chaotic and a little cleaner.

These seem to be two very different people or maybe one curious person leading two very different lives.

Glad to hear about this though. I have often searched for figure drawing groups in jc but never came up with anything!

I used to live by the original 5 Guys in Arlington VA and really liked their burgers and the atmosphere. My friends used to say we should franchise it. That was back when there were only 3.

I think I've seen a man with a purple beard hanging out with the man with the blue hair. I like their style.

I moved here 3 yrs ago from brooklyn and it took about a year to adjust. Now I can't imagine myself ever moving back to nyc. San Francisco maybe, but not ny. I love the big trees on my street, the parks, the farmers markets, the chill bars, the big grocery stores within walking distance, and the friendly people. Every time I'm in the city I'm think about how much more relaxing my life is in JC.

Any other reviews of Fire Oak? I'm curious about their daily specials. In particular the oysters and the sushi.

Had a really great experience there yesterday. roast pork sandwich and "Mexican Sandwich" with steak were both tastey. the waitress with the short black hair at the counter was really helpful and anticipated a lot of things which i think makes for great service.
