Is this the pizza place across the street from Sava's?

I've never understood the fine line of "one man's addiction" and legalized gambling. It's always been explained to me as income for the state and all. So why are the outskirts of AC such a sheizen hole?

She's working on getting a sign up. She has one of those double-sided chalkboards in her doorway listing the dishes she has. Follow astrazombie's directions and you should find her place.

I've been wanting to go back but I've been working the last several Saturdays.

Oh no, not a vacant lot! What ever will the city do with a vacant lot... other than find another developer.

I would like to see the city call their bluff too.

Nyet. Kasha Varnishkes is, simply, kasha with bowtie pasta. Not a fan of the kishkes. I was as a child but then all bets were off once I found out what it was.

I went to Sava's today. I ordered the combo platter as mentioned above. It was awesome. She's still feeling out the neighborhood so she's just cooking the basics and in limited amounts. Very sweet woman. I told her that I came in because of a post on the board and she was happily surprised. I left with a quart of the Ukrainian borscht.

I will definitely be a regular customer.

The garage at the intersection of Erie & 9th is part of the Hamilton Square Project and will eventually be torn down when the developers get to that phase of the project. It will be replaced with condos and I believe some parking in the base of the building.

This makes *perfect* sense for an area where parking is a commodity. Idiot developers.

I heard rumors that people who live at Hamilton Square will not be issued residential parking permits since there will be parking available. Can someone substantiate?

I'm used to seeing some idiot driving his car while on the phone but the other day I witnessed one of those mini bull dozers in traffic changing lanes a little erratically. I pull up to the guy at the next light and sure enough he's on his flippin' cell phone gabbing away.

I bought my 675 sq ft, 1 bedroom apt on Hamilton Park for $75K... in 1997. And that's about $14K less than my landlady had originally paid for it in the late 80s. Now THAT'S a good deal.

Actually it's $15.

And I've had a pretty easy time at MVC on Summit Ave the last few times I've been there. They have people to help you fill out your paperwork and make sure you have all the correct ID BEFORE you get in line.

Regarding the teeth brushing, I don't really know how necessary it is. The biggest benefit of giving your cats dry food is that it cleans their teeth a bit. I think that's really the extent of what you need to do. I can't imagine cleaning a cat's teeth, yikes!

I've done it at the recommendation of my vet. It's not too bad if you "ease" them into it (start by using a cloth on the cat's teeth, move up to a soft baby toothbrush). I've noticed that their breath is a little fresher when I brush their teeth.

Be careful when grooming your cat. My cat Lloyd gave me a nasty staph infection when he bit me. I had to take Cipro. Ever since then I've called him my little WMD.

What about municipal parking lots?

Yes! This is more like it. Why not municipal parking lots? Works in many other cities. Philadelphia does it, Baltimore does it, hell Lancaster, Pennsylvania does it. Our parking here is terrible in NYC and JC. There is alot that could be done to alleviate the issue. Better permitting based on apartment type, vehicle limits based on family size, incentives to get rid of your car, etc.

I'm also a fan of dropping notes on peoples windshields for parking like morons. I have one on my block as well who is notorious for driving down the side of the street recklessly and parking wherever he likes. He actually backed into my car the night I brought it home from the dealership....hard.

So, back to my original statement. What can be done? Letter writing, community meetings? I am willing to do what I have to do to at least get this matter looked into.

Municipal parking lots would be great, BUT, everyone is out to make the big bucks. What would make more money-- selling to developers (who could care less about the impact on the infrastructure) or creating a much-needed parking lot?

In all fairness, as other cars come and go, someone who has actually parked correctly and considerately can end up looking like they f*cked up or intentionally took two spots. So, not all cases are intentionally inconsiderate parking.

But, you're absolutely right ---- there are many, many who do it intentionally either just to be a jerk or because God forbid some other car should come to close to their vehicle.

I have a guy on my block who does this very thing --- he'll come home and park himself smack-dab in the middle of an open space that is easily 2+ cars long. I know it's intentional because even when he's forced to park "normally" and a car in front of him or behind him leaves, he'll actually come out of the house and move his car a half-space (forward or back) to regain his buffer zone.

He's such a colossal a**hole that I would actually post his address, but anyone on my block who knows who I am certainly also knows who I'm talking about.

"Double" parking next to an empty parking space
Home away from home
Home away from home

I see this from time to time-- someone decides to double park next to an empty space large enough to accommodate their car instead of pulling into the spot (with and without their hazards on).

Yesterday I was going out to an appt. Somebody double parked behind me in a space large enough to allow someone to drive into it rather than parallel park. The guy parked a little too close to my bumper. To be honest, I might have been able to wriggle out of the space but I'm not going to take the chance I damage his car. So I have to wait. Blow the horn. And wait. Blow the horn and wait some more.

I've never understood this. If you're just running in for a minute, why not just use the parking spot?

Re: **CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS IN JERSEY CITY ***

I had a literal run in with Ralph from the Stern show around 7 or 8 years ago. I was standing on the express line at Shop Rite minding my own business when Ralph slammed into me to get a basket from under the conveyor belt. I can't help but think he did it on purpose to be a douchebag (No. Big. Surprise.). The line was extremely short and I was at the end of it so he could have easily gone around me.

Back in 1999 or 2000 The Sopranos filmed outside of my apt bldg on Hamilton Park. I saw James Gandolfini.
