That does that have to do with taxes rising 8%? The council could have cut the budget but they chose not to.

and what should they have cut exactly? What would your golden boy Fletcher have done differently? It's easy to say "cut spending" but in reality this is not the current council or Mayor's budget. 2014 will be the first budget for this government.

If you are upset with how resources were allocated for 2013 (half of which was already spent by July 1) I suggest you reach out to the former council members as the current council did not allocate the funds that have already been spent. The Mayor even said at this point the only cuts that could have been made were in the FD or PD.

So we have Yvonne Balcer, Lydia Radin, Fletcher Gensamer, who else will be providing the nonsensical entertainment for the next 4 years?

it's good you're not posting an anonymous google doc with huge speculation and no citations in it, that makes enormous assumptions. oh wait...

Is Governor McGreevey not qualified for this position? Who would you or your king Fletcher appoint to head a prisoner reentry program? I know Fletcher is a Newt Gingrich supporter so likely wouldn't want to waste money on prisoner reentry, but not sure about you.

Re: Anyone bring their pets to MetroVet?

MetroVet is a satellite office of Dr. John Fedina, whose original practice is the Veterinary Medical Center of Caldwell. I used to drive 45 minutes to see him as he has that "sixth sense" and isn't just trying to rip you off. By coincidence he opened up in JC, and I cannot recommend him enough. His associate Dr. Gerard is also amazing, and again I cannot recommend them enough.

they don't have boarding yet although the facility is fully built. City Council must vote to approve it. The daycare is great, and they have a vet attached who is above and beyond any other local vets. Dr. Fedina (and Gerard) is amazing.

Fletcher Gensamer is simply going to be anti-Fulop/Candice for the next 4 years NO MATTER WHAT.

Enlighten us Fletch, why is Donnelly not suitable for this role? Do you think he is incompetent in terms of large project management? What if he ends up managing these huge projects extremely well?

We all know you are posturing for your next attempt at office. Forget Ward E, I think you should run for Mayor in 2017!

Hi All. This was in the Jersey City Reporter / Hudson Reporter.

Council President Rolando Lavarro has called a special meeting next week to review the budget as we're now facing a $21 million gap (and growing?).

What would YOU do to 1) Cut Spending and 2) raise revenue so that we don't get hit with a big tax increase?

Let's give the new council lots of ideas to consider because I don't think raising taxes would go over too well - considering they just canceled the reval which would have provided tax relief to 1/3 of JC tax payers.

if 1/3 get tax relief, what do the remaining 2/3 get? Interesting way to frame the issue Fletch. What do YOU think they should do?

As a born-and-raised Manhattanite I find it interesting that there is such a strong pull for adults to live in Manhattan. Although I grew up there, there is really no identity to "the city" and the cost of living has just gotten ludicrous. For tourists/transplants, though, I get the allure to try living there for a little bit.

I detest dog owners who don't pick up after their pets as not only have I stepped in it, but my dogs have too. Cleaning up poop on a paw is just as annoying! However, I will continue letting my dogs off leash in the Morris Canal, so feel free to call the police who have nothing better to do than patrol my dogs :) .

Garbage everywhere, crimes unstoppable, grand developments left abandoned with no enforcement from the city and an unmanageable budget.

Out of all the issues jersey city has, the new mayor decides to waste his time and effort to stop the freeloaders from paying their fair share of tax.

This is very disappointing.

It's actually the "Mayor-elect" as he hasn't taken office yet.

Also, you likely missed the headlines but as Mayor-elect he has already increased the next police class size as well as stated a desire to increase future classes, stated that police will be back to "walking the beat" which was all but eliminated under Healy, removed free-driving privileges for 58 city employees with cars (saving $$$), and aside from the detailed platform he laid out (http://stevenfulop.com/platform), a "See-click-fix" initiative is going to be taking off, which would address the micro issues residents face such as overflowing garbage cans, etc.

signed: a freeloader.

I hope that last line is sarcasm. "We" certainly do not need some pushy bar owner moving into a space who threatens an amazing cultural community event. Events like Groove on Grove are what make Jersey City great, NOT a bar.

I'd like to see this guy try to minimize the amazing events we have for the sake of bar patrons.

It's too bad we can't sell the 58 vehicles. Still, that's A LOT of gas and maintenance bills that will reduce dramatically. Employees were taking family vacations with these cars.

Yeah, the number of places opening far exceeds those closing. In the past year or two, we've seen:

Orale Mexican Kitchen
The Dopeness
Wings to Go (their brick oven pizza is cheap and decent)
Razza where Bar Majestic used to be
Brightside Tavern
Two Boots
Kraverie

I'm sure I've missed some.

What has closed in that time that hasn't been replaced with something new?

in addition, there is a new place opening up where Ducky's was, as well as in the two spaces next to it, which have been abandoned for several years. Also, a knitting store opened on York Street recently, as well as retail space in highrises (i.e. Tilted Kilt).

Fletch will continue to do this doom-and-gloom thing as he is posturing for his next run for Council.

Expect to see A LOT more up for sale.

People are going to be bailing on downtown because the Property Tax Revaluation is going to be taking place.

Fulop promised he would do "what he could" to "stop it", but the reality is, there is nothing "he can do" to "stop it".

And taxes for folks who have had property from the 80's and early 1990's are going to go through the roof.

Pay attention to what happens come July 1st. This will mean more empty store fronts... and less businesses... and folks bailing out because of obscene tax bills.

History is repeating itself.

F

so Fletch, what would you in your infinite wisdom do that the Mayor-elect is not?

I understand your mouth is full of sour grapes, but if you actually listened to the Mayor-elect (and Councilwoman-elect) you would know they recognize fully stopping it is not realistic. What they want to do is postpone it, which would have a positive effect as this would give time to improve areas outside of downtown (top priority), thus balancing the tax burden across the city.

and please, enlighten us with what you would do that has not already been proposed beyond postponing the reval?

After investigating the issue of Khemraj Chico Ramchal's status as a Bayonne High School (BHS) graduate, and speaking with both regular and night school representatives of BHS, it is clear that he did not graduate from BHS. I spoke with Mr. Ramchal last week about providing documentation proving his graduation, but at this point have gotten no return. As well, upon further investigation by Yvonne Balcer, it seems there is no record of him even attending BHS.

I'm now calling on Steven Fulop, Bill Odea, and the leadership of the Fulop team to remove Mr. Ramchal's bio from the campaign website. In addition, I'm calling on them to immediately email supporters and have all there Ward B committee people inform residents/voters about the false information that has been used in campaign literature.

This is now an issue of accountability and integrity from a campaign that promised both.

You are right! The entire Fulop administration is a sham now! Bring back Jerry! We may as well dismiss anything the Mayor-elect plans to do as this scandal is so groundbreaking and such a sleight on his image. In fact, Steve should probably resign now. How dare he not require the Council candidates to provide their diplomas. I'm SURE that true upstanding citizens like Fletch and Esther would have provided their HS diplomas without even being asked for them.

A ?jacket? means a student did attend but dropped out and perhaps attended night school. There is no ?jacket? on Chico.

Interesting, Esther has legitimate accomplishments you can list, but instead you choose to find some dirt on her opponent in order to malign him.
