I applaud the demonstrators. Corporations, banks, hedge funds and Wall St. have been ripping off this country since the Reagan administration. A steady downward spiral for the middle class and the poor. This country now has 46 million people who live below the poverty line. It's a disgrace.

Every year its the same charade on the City budget.

I do notice that the activism that seemed to exist in previous months/years has waned. The recall was a failure. Everybody is just holding their collective breaths until 2013 hoping a white knight will ride in to rescue the City.

The Healy people would have liked us to believe that when they brought their new Business Administrator (Jack Kelly)on board, that he would find ways to get the City out of its fiscal mess.

After employee furloughs, layoffs, scaling back health insurance benefits for retirees and changing the City's fiscal year the City is in the same hole as before and can't pass a budget in a timely fashion.

Great job Mr. Kelly !

Please explain how circulating a petition to close a place that is a blight on the neighborhood is racist. Your answer should be illuminating.

+1 on calling bullshit on this.

Anyone who knows Ray Velasquez knows he is an arrogant twit in the tradition of Mariano Vega. A no-talent hack with an enormous sense of entitlement and grandiosity.

In the time honored tradition of Hudson County, Viola Richardson is a triple-dipper : a police disability pension, a no-show job at the county jail and a City Council salary. All this with a major attitude to boot.

Announcing via social media is nothing unusual these days. Everyone knows Suzanne's contributions to the Jersey City community. No red flags here.

Anyone who knows Mariano Vega knows he is an arrogant narcissist. His imperious nature and belief he was a made man in the HCDO crime family caused him to believe he could take the bribes from Dwek and skate.

His behavior after he was arrested, knowing full well he was guilty and continuing to hold his Council seat, is unforgivable. He is lucky he only got 30 months.

This is Hudson County's version of the Peter Principle. The only difference being that Sean Conners was never competent in any position he has ever held.

The idea that someone who admires Jerry McCann is going to be an Assemblyman is frightening. The fact that Hudson's political leaders would choose him is more frightening.

It's bad enough that Healy is Mayor. But at least we thought we were getting an intelligent progressive President. Instead, we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are still giving tax cuts to the rich at the expense of the middle class and poor.

Healy's father owned a bar and was killed in a bar fight. Healy got drunk in Bradley Beach and tangled with cops. The son now (allegedly) was bar hopping in Hoboken and assaulted a woman.

Ex-Jersey City political consultant Cardwell admits to accepting $30K bribe
Home away from home
Home away from home

By MaryAnn Spoto/The Star-Ledger

JERSEY CITY ? A former Jersey City political consultant who sits on the municipal utilities authority admitted this morning to accepting $30,000 from disgraced developer Solomon Dwek to pay for a city official?s influence on a construction project.

Joseph Cardwell, 69, pleaded guilty in federal court in Newark to one count of bribery in connection with Operation Bid Rig, the massive public corruption sting with Dwek at its center.

"Are you pleading guilty because you are in fact guilty and for no other reason?" asked U.S. District Judge Jose Linares.

"Yes," Cardwell replied.

"How do you wish to plead to the charges? Guilty or not guilty," the judge asked.

"Guilty," said Cardwell, who occasionally consulted with his attorneys, Henry Klingeman and Anna Cominsky.

The exchange followed lengthy questioning by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Moran, who asked Cardwell about his meetings in 2008 with Dwek and a Jersey City official later identified as Carl Czaplicki, director of the Jersey City Department of Housing, Economic Development and Commerce at the time.

Czaplicki has not been charged in the sting.

Cardwell admitted he accepted $10,000 from Dwek on July 1, 2008, and agreed to set up a meeting between Dwek and officials who he thought would agree to accept cash for development approvals.

Dwek, posing as developer David Esenbach, was actually working with the FBI and had secretly recorded the meetings and telephone conversations with Cardwell.

At a July 14, 2008, meeting in Atlantic City, Dwek told Cardwell he wanted to be introduced to public officials who were "takers" ? people whom Dwek could "own," Cardwell said.

At an Aug. 14, 2008, meeting, Czaplicki met with Dwek in a parking lot but did not take the $10,000 Dwek offered him, Cardwell said. Instead, Cardwell said he accepted $20,000 the following day from Dwek and told Dwek he would use half of it to buy tickets to a fundraiser for the reelection campaign of another city official.

Cardwell?s sentencing has been scheduled for June 21, at which time he faces up to 10 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

The question remains, why hasn't Carl Czaplicki resigned yet. He was present while the bribes were being offered.

Ahmad is another county hack, of the Cunningham variety. Amazing how the Healy people kiss Sandy's behind while the HCDO folks are plotting to get rid the Widow Cunningham.

At the end of the day, Ahmad is a place holder much like Councilman Velazquez.

Having these buildings gives us our own distinction and stops all the buildings of generic buildings being built, making the city worst than before.

I've lived in Jersey City since 1968. And the truth is there is neither public or private monies available to rehab those warehouses. I would much prefer to see development on the order of what's been done in Weehawken, West New York and Edgewater along the Hudson.

The idea of rehabbing the warehouses is an elitist's pipe dream.

Yes, let's insure that a group of aging, useless warehouses with dubious architectural, historical or civic value are preserved. Typical Jersey City.
