Rent-A-Thug!

Gotta love how dumbed-down the citizenry is around here...they wouldn't object to random firing squads where the victims pay for the man/firepower

Did you see the two standing in front of Grove this morning? Just staring at eachother. Ugh, at least write some tickets for littering or something.

WTF are you talking about? Do you need a French Community to have a good French Restaurant? Or a Russian Community to have a good Vodka bar? I don't think so.

of course, it doesnt effect me personally at ALL. I'd just like to see whoever it is making effort to improve my adopted hometown be given at least a CHANCE to prove themselves before they're judged.

I agree 10000%. And yes, it does affect us if people have so little optimism, piglet. It's frustrating and demoralizing as a resident and business owner (by marriage) to feel like people are just waiting for businesses to fail instead of trying to support them. When Metropolis first opened, we actually had people come in and say "I'll come back and shop here if you're still open in 3 months" Thank god there were people who weren't like that but still...

Personally, I'm excited they're open. The place looks great and the prices in the ballpark. I'm going for take-out tonight.

Good Luck pushing the politicians.......
You gonna do it?

The re-val is coming but neither the current mayor nor prospective incumbent will broach this subject. After the new mayor is elected/reelected the issue will be addressed.

This is a far different city than the 1980's when the last reval was done. I think it will be withstood. Look at Montclair.

Well, sorry to interupt all the happy talk, but the econo-demographics don't support the continued bubble in JC, of even NYC for that matter. The supply-demand equation will be coming to play big time as mortgages will continue to get more difficult/expensive to acquire (no more liar loans and free money for the economically challenged) and the bonuses on Wall St. will evaporate as we enter a deep recession...anyone remember what those were like? Here's a quote from another board that just might be a primer for the uninformed: Quote:
The COLOSSAL number of housing units that are nearing completion on the Jersey Waterfront, presumably rental and condo will come into a market that will probably be both entering a recession (if even the recession of 2001-2002 was ever LEFT,) facing an EXTREME oversupply situation, and a nationally bursting real estate bubble. I remember in the 70's recessions where New York took over building after building and converted them to Mitchell Lama housing and I also remember the Daddy Bush recession and housing bubble burst where co-op apartments were selling at auction all over the City for $5,000 or less becasue the maintenance charges were far higher than market rents. People were finding situations of negative equity in their 80's purchases right and left. At least THEN bankruptcy was a viable option. THe last Congress has made such bankruptcies MUCH harder and more expensive to pull off unless you're an airline. (Imagine the concept of an EXPENSIVE BANKRUPTCY...an oxym oron that might be better even than MILITARY INTELLIGENCE) To address the question, why not refinance before an onerous mortgage becomes more onerous with a reset? Because the person who settled for the catastrophic conditions did so not because he was stupid (well maybe) but rather because that was the only way he could qualify for as much house as he wanted. If his financial condition has not improved or God forbid gotten WORSE, there is no way he can qualify for a good refinancing rate...he's STUCK! A person who needed a "no-money-down" mortgage 3 years ago is unlikely to be able to cough up a couple hundred G's down payment now and a pile of extra points in origination fees without a lottery win. Some poor Schmuck making 60 G's a year and no savings wants a $500,000 house. THe way this is going to work for him is for him to buy it "nothing down...low rate," and then find another schmuck (or refinancing bank) who will pay (or value at) $600,000 next year, hoping to get $700K soon! By some definitions that is a PONZI SCHEME...it ends when the last schmuck comes to his senses and says "Nuh..UHHH" THat's the way the TULIP BUBBLE burst in 1637 and that's the way the housing market will implode very soon.
Beware the exploding mortgage Resized Image

Point taken Erin, but someone who is prepared to hit a woman in the face would have some history somewhere.

ex-girlfriends, school days etc. I'd be surprised that somewhere in his past police hadn't spoken to him about violence.

You have to admit, you would have the be the biggest dumb-ass assaulting a domestic violence counselor without previous history and thinking you could get away with it!

Maybe he was never reported in the past. Unfortunatly many people take the abuse and never report it.

actually, my post was a (weak) attempt at a poke at GrovePath - because if the person lives anywhere other than downtown, the headline will read "Heights man arrested" or "Greenville man shot"... but it seems that whenever there's crime downtown, the headline submitted does not mention downtown...

Gee, I wonder how many years these thugs would get if they're ever caught. I guess they might get what a few months to a year.

Why shouldn't they be locked away for life, or at least 25 years?

No, because he is a public servant paid by 'our' taxes. We even have the right to know how much he earns.

I'm a strong believer that all public servants should be transparent and accountable as they have our trust and our representation as a community.

We should have a picture of him here and in the papers.

I wonder who gave him his job with the City in the first place.

2 thieves rush in, hit her with butt of gun, then flee

Wednesday, June 13, 2007
By BERNETTE PEARSON
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

A Jersey City woman was battered with the butt of a gun after two men forced their way into her Brinkerhoff Street home Monday, a police report said.

The woman and three friends were watching television at about 9 p.m. when someone knocked on the door. One of her friends opened the door, and two men pushed into the apartment, forced everyone to the floor and demanded their money, the report said.

One man started hitting the victim in the head and the other robber demanded that he stop, the report said. The men apparently then abandoned their robbery plan and fled, the report said.

One of the victim's friends said he saw the men enter a light-colored, four-door car on Bergen Avenue, the report said. According to another police report, the car was impounded after being found on Ruby Brown Terrace at about 10:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, the police said. The victim was treated and released from Jersey City Medical Center, the hospital said.
