I would like to know when an ordinance is passed to shame the parents of this kid ala dog owners who don't clean up their dog's mess. I would like to see a website or a section of the newspaper dedicated to shaming parents of kids who do this kind of garbage. Someone is not raising their kid right if they think this is funny stuff.

Also I no longer want to protect the identity of these kids. I want to know specifically which kids are doing this, because its apparent they are becoming a danger to the community.

I also agree with CapnJon but it won't fly unfortunately.

They're not and there's no evidence, certainly on this board, to support that case. However, crackpot zealots - of either stripe - certainly are.

BEAT HIM WITH BRICK FOR 'FUN'
'I'm lucky to be alive,' victim says

Friday, June 22, 2007
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

A 15-year-old Ferris High School student who was acting on another boy's dare to "try beating up that guy" has been charged with viciously beating a Jersey City man with a brick while a group of fellow students cheered him on, officials said yesterday.

"He hit me with a brick three times on the right side of my face," said Gilberto Negron, 52, whose face is still black and blue, swollen and stitched as a result of the Tuesday afternoon attack.

Negron, a Ferris graduate himself, had just bought lunch at a deli and was on Brunswick Street between First and Second streets when he was attacked, he said. Witnesses said the boy came up from behind him and just began hitting him.

Negron said there were four or five others who "were just cheering the guy on while he was hitting me."

"They didn't take anything," he said. "They just did it for fun."

Negron said he was knocked unconscious a few seconds and woke to see the group running away. He said he went back to Introcaso-Angelo Funeral home, where he works, and into a bathroom to wash off the blood. He said one look in the mirror made him think, "I'm lucky to be alive."

An ambulance took him to the Jersey City Medical Center for stitches on the bridge of his nose, his forehead, and the insides of his upper and lower lips. Doctors say his face is too swollen to determine if his jaw and nose are broken, he said. He's going back for a check-up today, he said.

One of his daughters threw up in a hospital bathroom after seeing him, he said. His other daughter, Adalis Negron, 21, said that when she saw her father back at their Greenville home, she had to turn her back to get control of her emotions.

"He could have killed him," Adalis Negron said yesterday.

Witnesses in the area told police the boy came up behind the victim and just started hitting him. They said they thought the attacker was a Ferris student because they had seen him with Ferris students earlier, reports said.

Police spoke to the high school principal, who gave them photos that led to the boy's identification, said Gerard Crisonino, a spokesman for the school district.

The boy was arrested about 4 p.m. yesterday, city spokesman Stan H. Eason said.

Negron said he was at a loss to understand what happened.

"I never had an argument, never had a fight, I'm old school," he said. "When I went to Ferris, I never saw kids like this. In my days we had to wear a suit and tie, we had respect."

Downtown City Councilman Steven Fulop said "wolf packs" of youths are a serious problem that will become worse in the summer unless children are given more outlets for recreation.

"These wolf packs are a serious problem, and it's not addressed by the police," Fulop said.

Eason said police are responding to the problem, and all other crimes, saying it is reflected in statistics showing crime is down in nearly every category.

"We do not say that the incident of juvenile crime is not serious, but we do not categorize every incident as a wolf pack when they are not wolf packs," Eason said.

Yes, my post was in bad taste but note the way the article was written by the reporter - As I said in another thread, JC as a whole lacks empathy. This is why I think JC has so much crime and will continue to do so.
Reporters, Police, City Hall and I imagine a good % of the community have a 'who gives a siht' and 'what's in it for me' attitude.

The lesson I read in this news report, is that parts of JC can't guarantee you a secure private crap within your own home, and that personal and property security should be your No1 investment here.

it's just getting re-god-damn-diculous.

that has got to be such a traumatizing event for this person. i mean, every single time the guy gets in the shower now for the rest of his life, he's not going to be able to relax.

what a scum bag.

these articles NEVER go the way I want them to go.

why not:

"as the man dragged him out of the shower at knife point, the naked victim slammed him over the head with his hair dryer, dazing the perpetrator. he followed that up with an across the face swat with a weight scale, causing the man to collapse to the ground of the bathroom floor, flat on his back. the naked man then asked the intruder if he was ready for tea, but his was no ordinary cup of tea he had in mind........."

one day.

The guy is seriously medically addicted and has the shakes all morning until he gets his first drop of sauce at 11AM. He has a real problem and is not in condition to have this kind of responsibility. He needs 6 months at a clinic, not the stress of a mayor's job. If we re-elect him, we deserve him. The City is not being managed at this point.

The real Mayor is the Business Administrator and the Council is running amok.

I am very impressed with with this restaurant; went last night ran into 4 friends who got an order where one dish was not correct and they were cheerfully told that their bill was complementary.

I then sat next to one of the owners who told me:

Sawadee Thai was located in Manhattan but they moved here due to the $25,000.00/month rent.

They are the same family that owns Village Thai.

He complained about the process and time involved in get permits and said that a couple of businesses on Newark Avenue went broke waiting for them.

Alot of customers for a rainy Thursday night.

Do not order the fried bananas if you are on a diet!

We have 100,000 voters but the average mayoral election brings out 39,000.

This is how the Machine wins.Untill we start voting in larger numbers we are stuck bitching about a drunk and naked guy who is are Mayor.

Actually, I don't have a dime in either the equities or RE markets...I do have some positions in commodities/precious metals, but only as an insurance policy against hyper-inflation.

I've been watching the markets up close & personal now for over 11 years and I occassionally re-publish some of the info I gleen from my website watch of daily news sources to see just what the reaction of that particular demographic is...

I'd have to rate "jclist" right up there with the biggest sheeple herd sites I've encountered to date, although I sense quite a bit of cognitive dissonance of the adolescent variety and a HUGE underlying dose of cognitive biases.

Here 's the Wikipedia list of the 26 most studied and widely accepted cognitive biases:

1. Bandwagon effect - the tendency to do (or believe) things because many other people do (or believe) the same. Related to groupthink , herd behaviour , and manias . Carl Jung pioneered the idea of the collective unconscious which is considered by Jungian psychologists to be responsible for this cognitive bias.

2. Bias blind spot - the tendency not to compensate for one?s own cognitive biases.

3. Choice-supportive bias - the tendency to remember one?s choices as better than they actually were.

4. Confirmation bias - the tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one?s preconceptions.

5. Congruence bias - the tendency to test hypotheses exclusively through direct testing.

6. Contrast effect - the enhancement or diminishment of a weight or other measurement when compared with recently observed contrasting object.

7. D?formation professionnelle - the tendency to look at things according to the conventions of one?s own profession, forgetting any broader point of view.

8. Disconfirmation bias - the tendency for people to extend critical scrutiny to information which contradicts their prior beliefs and uncritically accept information that is congruent with their prior beliefs.

9. Endowment effect - the tendency for people to value something more as soon as they own it.

10. Focusing effect - prediction bias occurring when people place too much importance on one aspect of an event; causes error in accurately predicting the utility of a future outcome.

11. Hyperbolic discounting - the tendency for people to have a stronger preference for more immediate payoffs relative to later payoffs, the closer to the present both payoffs are.

12. Illusion of control - the tendency for human beings to believe they can control or at least influence outcomes which they clearly cannot.

13. Impact bias - the tendency for people to overestimate the length or the intensity of the impact of future feeling states.

14. Information bias - the tendency to seek information even when it cannot affect action.

15. Loss aversion - the tendency for people to strongly prefer avoiding losses over acquiring gains (see also sunk cost effects )

16. Neglect of probability - the tendency to completely disregard probability when making a decision under uncertainty.

17. Mere exposure effect - the tendency for people to express undue liking for things merely because they are familiar with them.

18. Omission bias - The tendency to judge harmful actions as worse, or less moral, than equally harmful omissions (inactions).

19. Outcome bias - the tendency to judge a decision by its eventual outcome instead of based on the quality of the decision at the time it was made.

20. Planning fallacy - the tendency to underestimate task-completion times.

21. Post-purchase rationalization - the tendency to persuade oneself through rational argument that a purchase was a good value.

22. Pseudocertainty effect - the tendency to make risk-averse choices if the expected outcome is positive, but make risk-seeking choices to avoid negative outcomes.

23. Selective perception - the tendency for expectations to affect perception.

24. Status quo bias - the tendency for people to like things to stay relatively the same.

25. Von Restorff effect - the tendency for an item that ?stands out like a sore thumb? to be more likely to be remembered than other items.

26. Zero-risk bias - preference for reducing a small risk to zero over a greater reduction in a larger risk.

Sorry to disturb the herd from its collective slumber, you can return back to your regularly scheduled mundanities

Really Tazmanio......sigh
I also read an article in the Times stating that the avg. price of a one bedroom in NYC is 818K and two bedroom 1.2K.
Of courses prices have become negotiable in this area.
They were insane two years ago. But forelosures???
Most of the folks here could afford what they purchased.
Perhaps in all your wisdom you could predict the stock market activity for the next six months.....or maybe the next president or maybe the end of the world

Re: Downtown Day Care for 3 months +?

I checked out the River Schools, Baby Galileo, and The Growing Tree:

The River School in Newport won't take applications if you don't live in the LeFrak buildings. Otherwise it would be convenient, because there's also a pediatric clinic in the same building. Free parking is also available on the streets after 6pm on weekdays. This one was the most expensive out of the four.

The other River school has a 1+ year waiting list, and siblings have a higher priority than new applicants so the cribs don't free up as easily. There's a bar across from the school but I've never seen it open when I was checking out the school.

The staff was friendly at Baby Galileo, and the tuition is the cheapest here, (plus I think they have a sibling discount). No waiting list, but seemed a bit overcrowded, and they didn't seemed to use tissue paper in the changing area like they do in other daycare centers. I know your baby won't be using the outdoor playground, but I'd check it out anyways. Also, the stroller storage was inconvenient. It was in the basement.

Growing Tree's staff are also friendly, and the tuition is more expensive than Baby Galileo, and less than River school's prices. There's a scholarship program, but I think it may apply to toddlers 1+. They take babies from six weeks and up.

IRRATIONAL HOUSING:
INSIDERS OUT EARLY AND THE DUESENBERRY EFFECT - Markets operate under the assumption that key players act rationally in most circumstances. Their premise is such that market stability is based on people acting to a set of according rules. Much has been debated about this because economics as a science is cold and aloof; it is a matter of simply stating the facts. Yet we have learned in the recent housing mania that market psychology and behavioral economics play a large role in how people interpret risk and what constitutes an investment. As most bubbles in the past, such as John Law?s Banque G?n?rale and the South Sea Bubble, many bubbles burst and leap into another bubble. Why is this? The argument goes that in a bubble profit is a major driving force distorting stable growth for radical cancerous increases that are only supportable for a short time. After the glut of speculation is complete, those with a profit that cashed out on time feel the hunger for continued gains. This desire precipitates another bubble in whatever form it may be; technology stocks, real estate, commodities, or foreign investment. Either way, the pattern is such were a few successful insiders gut the system, leave burns on the psyche of a general public only to save up long enough to let the emotional scars to heal. Then they jump into the fire again with their resources ready to be distributed to those at the top again.

WORST HOUSING MARKET
SINCE THE DEPRESSION - The markets seem to be waking up to the fact that the housing market is nowhere near the bottom. Borrowers are being squeezed by the treasury markets' recent sell off, which has increased 30-year mortgage rates the most since 2004. The National Median Home price is poised for its first annual decline since the Great Depression. An executive at the giant bond fund PIMCO said it best: "It's a blood bath. We're talking about a two to three year downturn that will take a whole host of characters with it, from job creation to consumer confidence. Eventually it will take the stock markets and corporate profit." The U.S. housing market has provided the economy with support through the creation of wealth and the seemingly endless ATM of price increases. The recent increase in yields, along with the subprime mortgage meltdown is going to kick this support right out from under the economy, and the dollar is going to be drug down along with it.
