Does anybody know how high the storm surge was last year for Irene?

Irene by the numbers..NOAA

http://www.noaa.gov/images/Hurricane% ... %20Factoids_V4_083111.pdf

Water Levels

NOAA monitored water level data throughout the storm from 63 tide level gauges from Florida to Maine and 15 U.S. gauges in the Caribbean.

Along North Carolina, surge values ranged from 1 foot at Wilmington to about 6.2 feet above predicted tide levels at Oregon Inlet Marina. This was the highest storm surge observation from Hurricane Irene.

Stations near the entrance to Chesapeake Bay recorded storm surge values between 4 and 5 feet above predicted tide levels.

Stations from New York City to Woods Hole, Mass., had max storm surge values between 3 and 5 feet above predicted tide levels, with the highest preliminary measurement of 4.77 ft. recorded at Providence, R.I.

*** ****

MDM? Society Hill was fine during Irene. It is around 16 feet above sea level. At high tide the next morning the water did make it to about 3 inches over the Newark Bay Walkway. The entire Walkway was underwater .. it just disappeared. Also had some very minor wind damage to a few buildings.

My friends told me for Irene residents were also told to leave but not just the first floor the cops wanted everyone to leave? second and third floors. Their reasoning was that if SH was flooded they wouldn?t be able to get in to help anyone on the second or third floors. Most residents stayed.

Didn?t NYC call for evacuations for area?s under 13 feet sea level?

I found this site that gives elevation?does anyone know if it is correct? Like do you know what your elevation is so you can check it on the site.

http://veloroutes.org/elevation/ (the site is to calculate bike routes..interesting)

I put in some JC addresses?they seem right..

Like for Society Hill I put in 100 Cottonwood St Jersey City New Jersey I think it is the club house it says it is 16 feet and that is what I heard in the past.

For DTJC I put in 30 Hudson St Jersey City New Jersey that is Goldman Sachs and it comes back with 6 feet which seems right.

For Country Village I put in Mina Drive Jersey City New Jersey that is a road by rt 440 by Newark Bay it comes back with 13 feet. (I think they have basement flooding during heavy rains)

For NYC I put in 1 world trade center new york, ny and it comes back with 6 feet.

NAKED MAN DISARMS OFFICER, KILLING HIM WITH HIS GUN

By ROBERT HANLEY, Special to the New York Times
Published: November 7, 1986

JERSEY CITY, Nov. 6? A 53-year-old police sergeant was shot to death with his service revolver early today after a naked and apparently deranged man disarmed him in a struggle on a run-down street corner.

Bleeding from a head wound, the sergeant, Donald Carroll, sought refuge in a late-night grocery store. As Sergeant Carroll pushed against the store's plate-glass front door to keep the man out and yelled for the counter clerk to call police, the man fired five bullets through the door, striking Sergeant Carroll several times in the chest.

Moments later, the man, who the authorities said had a history of mental illness, was killed in a fusillade of police bullets after crashing Sergeant Carroll's patrol cruiser into a parked car.

Man Discharged Before Killing
Published: November 8, 1986

JERSEY CITY? The mentally deranged man who disarmed and killed a veteran police sergeant early Thursday was discharged after four weeks of psychiatric treatment only two days before the slaying, authorities said today.

The man, William Mitchell, a 33-year-old diagnosed schizophrenic, was given an injection of a tranquilizer on Monday when released from the psychiatric ward of Jersey City Medical Center, according to Barbara Willis, a spokesman for the center.

Miss Willis said the tranquilizer -Prolixin Decanoate - was meant to ''sedate'' Mr. Mitchell and ''help keep him rational.'' The medication's effect was to last three to four weeks, Miss Willis said.

On Wednesday morning, several hours before he shot Sgt. Donald Carroll, 53, Mr. Mitchell appeared at the medical center for a scheduled outpatient psychiatric exam.

There is pizza, Chinese, and couple of Pilipino places in the area and of course the old stand by Mickey D?s across from the old court house. If you feel like exploring walk down Summit for Burger King and Dunkin Donuts. Some more Pilipino places over by Five Corners. For a real adventure walk all the way down Newark Ave to the little India section. Maybe stop in Casa Dante or Montelone?s Bakery on the way. Don?t like Indian food while in that section of town there is a nice shiny White Castle on the corner of Newark and the Blvd. You can pick up a sack of ?murder? burgers.(no jury duty pun intended)

The Court house used to have a little place downstairs don't recall if it is still there.

You could have had some nice Polish food but you downtowners stole Sava Polish away from us! They used to be by the court house.

A Jersey City man had to be treated at a hospital after he was beaten with a clothing iron in his Heights home during an assault by a man and two women Sunday, authorities said.

The 35-year-old victim told police a woman he knows arrived at his Leonard Street home at 6:40 p.m. and after a brief conversation they began to argue, according to a police report.

The victim told police that another man and woman then arrived and the man hit the victim several times in the face with the iron while the women joined in the attack, the report said. The poll of 788 registered voters found 47 percent gave Christie either an A or B when asked to grade his performance ? up from 45 percent in August. Another 22 percent gave him a C. It?s the highest grade Christie has gotten since Rutgers-Eagleton began asking the question in February 2011.

From the JJ comments..

A couple of things..Healy should never have been quoted in the piece. He is the killer of all parks. What the JJ piece failed to mention is how HC wanted the entire 70-acre site for an extension of Lincoln Park. Healy for some odd reason was on the side of the California based ABM Corporation who wanted the site to build an 880,000 sq ft (8 football field) trucking terminal. Healy said it would bring hundred?s of jobs and tax money into JC. Well of course Healy got his way, by saying some of the land would be used for the creation of a smaller park. The County caved in. How freakin stupid is Healy to support the building of a trucking terminal on one of the most congested roads in NJ. Someone said there would only be 75 trucks leaving and entering a day. ONLY? Thank goodness it looks like the trucking terminal may not be built because of the bad economy. (thanks Obama) Rumors are that a BJ?s or Wal-Mart may be built instead. Still a traffic nightmare. Gee just think it really could have been JC?s biggest park at 70 acre?s instead of the 32 if it wasn?t for HEALY.

Very good link for ?Talking Politics? about the ?deal?.
