Not sure about JC, but I have heard good things about Best Buy's Geek Squad. They have a store in Secaucus. Not sure if you can bring it there or if they come out to your home.

I had lunch there a few weeks ago - sat upstairs by the window. What a beautiful place ! For starters we had the calamari, which might have been the best I have ever had - no joke. This place is great - wonderful addition to the area.

thanks for all your advice/inputs.

i did get another message from him on monday saying that the balance would be paid by tue - guess what...it is sat and i still dont see any deposits from him.

my prev communication to him were by phone, email, txt some of which are not tangible/provable in court (if it ever gets to it) - so taking your advice, i have sent the tenant a certified mail notifying him of his non-payment of the rent, additional rent, etc.

i have also contacted an attorney regarding the same.

for the last poster - am not a condo flipper. i bought the place 4 yrs ago, stayed there for 2.5 yrs and then as family grew had to move on. hope to keep it and pass onto the kids.

hope you have a great weekend!

I like Fulop, too. He at least has been responsive to emails when I raised concerns a couple years ago when we were slammed with that big double-digit property tax hike. I also sent emails to Healy and didn't get any replies. Healy doesn't give a rat's ass about accountability. While Fulop seems to enjoy broad support in the downtown, gentrified areas, you have to remember that Jersey City is much more - way more - than just Paulus Hook, downtown and Hamilton Park. There are vast swaths of Jersey City that aren't gentrified - and I'm going to have to choose my words very carefully here - where voters are not as well educated and for whom property taxes and corruption aren't the overriding issue. These are the voters the Hudson County machine targets and exploits, and very successfully at that. This is why lowlifes like Healy and Flood keep getting re-elected, and by very comfortable margins at that. Their record just doesn't seem to matter. As much as I like Fulop, I just don't see how he's gonna get elected mayor without the machine on his side, and to get the machine on his side he's probably going to have to make some very yucky deals.

Wasn't there a correctional officer that killed himself, because 2 escaped criminals left a note that implicated him?

Was the suicide as a result that he felt that the authorities wouldn't believe him - he had nothing to do with it and would be made the 'fall-guy'?

The culture or bulling that must go on in the correctional department must be bad if a correctional officer who deals with criminals everyday can handle that, but not the management and any of their tactics. Don't they provide counselling for staff and operate professionally with an 'innocent until proven' philosophy for staff.

The widow, if married should sue.

The SPCA have a great website and always ask for money, they teach and have hand-outs on animal welfare and cruelty detection etc etc.................what a load of crap if they can't even manage their own facilities.

SHUT THE PLACE DOWN AND MAKE IT A NATIONAL MEDIA ISSUE - SHAME THE SIHT OUT OF THEM.

Before voting for Healy remember that property taxes were raised by him approximately 6% three times since he took office! Yesterdays Jersey Journal reports we can expect another 6% increase in property taxes. How much damage can he do in another 4 years? If the people of Jersey City don't toss this embarrasment out of of office they deserve exactly what they get. Maybe this new guy Fulop can do better. I cant imagine anybody doing worse!

Doing arson probe for blaze at Daily News

Saturday, January 12, 2008
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Investigators have ruled the two-alarm fire at the Daily News printing plant in Jersey City last weekend to be suspicious, Fire Director Armando Roman said yesterday.

The Jersey City Fire Department Arson Unit is investigating and conducting interviews as part of its the probe into the Jan. 5 blaze at the building, on Theodore Conrad Drive near Liberty State Park. Roman said no additional information is being released at this time.

Firefighters responded to the fire around 1:30 a.m. and a second alarm was called 12 minutes later to bring more firefighters and equipment to combat the stubborn fire, which was fueled by burning oil-based ink, Roman said.

The flames were under control by 2:12 a.m. but not before a portion of the building suffered heavy damage, Roman said.

A Daily News spokeswoman said the blaze disrupted part of the newspaper's production but everything was back to normal the next day.

JAIL PROBE
Freeholders move to investigate 'bias' in discipline cases

Saturday, January 12, 2008
By EARL MORGAN
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise has agreed to hire a law firm or some other entity to investigate allegations of racial bias and abuse of policies and procedures at the county jail in Kearny.

During Thursday night's Hudson County freeholders meeting, County Administrator Abe Antun read a list of initiatives that DeGise will undertake as a response to complaints by jail employees outlined in The Jersey Journal.

DeGise's office will form a committee with the freeholders to hire an investigator to determine whether discipline or penalties are motivated by bias.

A policy of audio and video taping of disciplinary hearings has already been established and the jail's personnel officer has been barred from also acting as a hearing officer.

Other suggestions from DeGise's office include: Establishing a tracking system of all disciplinary actions to try to ensure equal treatment and creating an internal review process of all disciplinary decisions made by hearing officers.

The initiatives were announced following pressure from Freeholder Bill O'Dea and Freeholder Chairman Jeff Dublin, both of Jersey City, and Jersey City NAACP President Kabili Tayari, who have been pressing the county administration to investigate complaints raised by corrections officers and other jail employees.

Several corrections officers were on hand Thursday night to address the freeholders, including Jovonda Jackson, who picketed the county Administration Building on Pavonia Avenue in November to protest a three-week "fitness for duty" suspension she claims she was hit with after complaining of a hostile work environment.

Jackson said she is speaking for her fellow officers who are too frightened or intimidated to voice their complaints.

"If I hear anyone who speaks to this board has been retaliated against I won't wait for someone to be appointed to investigate," said O'Dea. "I will go outside the county and take the matter some other agency."

Those who work in Manhattan sadly seem more interested in NYC civic and political matters than those in their own backyard.

But they are interested in their backyard (Nyc) When it affects the home owners in DT and the price of renting goes up they they will take notice.

AIG Subsidiary Leases Another 77,000 SF

By Eric Peterson
www.globest.com
101 Hudson St.

JERSEY CITY-For the second time in two-and-a-half years, National Union Fire Insurance Co. has made a major expansion at Mack-Cali Realty Corp.?s 101 Hudson St., this time taking an additional 77,050 sf at the 42-story, 1.3-million-sf waterfront tower. Nufic, a Pittsburgh-based subsidiary of American International Group, will now occupy just shy of 395,000 sf at the site.

The lease term for the expansion space is concurrent with Nufic?s existing lease, which runs through 2012, according to information released by the Edison-based Mack-Cali. Further terms were not released; similar space at the site and competitive buildings in the market has been commanding numbers in the $40-per-sf range.

The signing leaves just 100,000 sf still available, or less than 1% of the building?s total rentable space. That availability is currently referenced on Mack-Cali?s website with an asking rent listed as ?negotiable.?

Nufic had earlier expanded its presence at 101 Hudson in late 2005, signing a seven-year, four-month deal. Then, as in the latest expansion, the tenant was represented by brokers Lewis Miller and Andrew Sussman of CB Richard Ellis.

?AIG and its subsidiaries are among our leading tenants,? says Mitchell Hersh, Mack-Cali?s president and CEO, noting that American Home Insurance, another AIG subsidiary, had previously leased more than 117,000 sf at the REIT?s 5 Wood Hollow Rd. in Parsippany. ?Over the past dozen years they?ve continued to expand their space with us at properties throughout our portfolio.?

Merrill Lynch continues to occupy approximately one half of the signature building, which is commonly referred to locally as ?the Merrill Lynch building.? Other major tenants include PricewaterhouseCoopers, the National Stock Exchange and Lehman Brothers, with the latter having expanded by 72,000 sf just this past summer to occupy a total of more than 270,000 sf.

The asset, which sits across the Hudson River from Downtown Manhattan, has been in Mack-Cali?s portfolio for not quite three years. As reported by GlobeSt.com, the REIT acquired 101 Hudson in the first half of 2005 for $329 million, or about $275 per sf, from a partnership of LCOR, the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio and Merrill Lynch.

ANIMAL CRUELTY AT THE HUDSON COUNTY SPCA -- at 480 Johnston Avenue, Jersey City

ANIMAL CRUELTY AT THE SPCA, HUDSON COUNTY NEW JERSEY.

Years after the SPCA at 480 Johnston Avenue, Jersey City, N.J. was investigated and charged for animal cruelty when a staff member beat a resident dog to death with a shovel, it appears the SPCA has not much improved.

This week, Jersey City Animal Control received several anonymous tips about very sick animals at the Jersey City shelter who were not receiving medical care. Control Officer Joe Frank called high ranking SPCA officer Carl Galioto to ask that the shelter be checked in upon and was assured by Mr. Galioto that he had visited the shelter this week and that all of the animals, and the facility, were in excellent condition.

A surprise visit on Wednesday, however, by the office of Animal Control and the Jersey City Health department, accompanied by members of the Police Department, turned up a different story altogether.

The facility was covered in what appeared to be weeks? worth of dog feces and at least 3 dogs were confiscated and brought to the Liberty Humane Center for immediate medical treatment. 2 of the animals suffered from severe malnourishment while the 3rd had a badly ulcerated eye which had gone untreated.

The incident leaves questions about conflicts of interest involved in an agency that polices itself and the qualifications of the Board of Directors, led by President, and Minister, Hector Carbajales of Union City, N.J., also a state certified animal control officer.

The animals will be returned to the shelter once the shelter is able to provide evidence that they are affiliated with a Veterinarian, they have instituted a disease control program and that the Veterinarian will care for the sick animals that were confiscated.

The Hudson County SPCA maintains animal control contracts with neighboring towns of Union City whose Mayor, Brian Stack, is a state Senator and also North Bergen, whose mayor Nicholas Sacco is also a state senator.

The Jersey City Animal Control office can be reached at 201-547-4888
The Jersey City Health Department can be reached at 201-547-6800
Board President, Minister Hector Carbajales can be reached at 201-435-3557
