Is there a final word on exactly how much of Christopher Columbus is getting repaved? Because if they only go from the waterfront to Brunswick, that's gonna suck.

The streets are falling apart because the no-bid contractor who shovels asphalt when they are paved puts down the thinnest possible layer to ensure maximum profits.

What about the other streets with crater sized pot holes? You know, every other street in Jersey City? I know it seems like a lot to ask to keep the streets from crumbling, but seriously, WTF.

When rampant, ugly, bargain-basement-quality-with-luxury-pricetag development is what gets you off, it's a little silly to whine about a logical byproduct of such clueless city planning: constantly dug up and patched up streets.

Short of the above-bolded request, exactly what do you propose?

Note to Councilman Fulop: your Filipino constituents would probably be psyched if you spelled Manila correctly.

That is interesting. I do like Cosi, though I haven't been to one in a while. The Cosi in Newport was awful (but is dead to me now, thus the past tense). I walked over there from Van Vorst one cold winter morning after realizing there was a cosi there-- and the retards had run out of eggs. At 10am. This announcement was made only after many people were waiting in line, and each time, they were told there were no eggs.

Steven,

I will email you as well but wanted to request that the stretch of Grand between Grove and Marin be paved as part of the next round. While the stretch between Grove and Jersey is in much worse shape and in even more dire need of repair, that stretch is not in good shape either (with a very uneven surface and a number of potholes) and could really use some resurfacing.

FYI... Cafe Ritazza in the Goldman building has closed and is being replaced by Cosi.... it will be open in September. I'm confused because there are signs for another Cosi opening right by the Exchange Place light rail but that sign has been up for a while so maybe they changed their mind about the location. Hmmm....

does anyone else find the whole idea of a "green" clubhouse highly hypocritical, given the environmental impact of the golf course itself?

Crap! the secrets out!

I thought only locals would know this place. There's also another one in JSQ above Lords Clothing store. The one on Vroom is nice on a breezy summer night to chill out after a night of drinks. I've been going to both for the last 5-8 years. But has been personally replaced (because of bad service) by Scarabs in Bayonne (17th & Avenue E) as my new hookah spot (they server liquor! and good food).
The staff is younger, friendly, and speak english. They have belly dancers and DJs on wekends.

That building is a nothing but a huge eyesore. Nothing is being said about the marina they intend on including, which if I remember correctly will impact the public boat launch in LS Park...Money talks and the city planning board is a joke...
Wait til this course is really used as my car was almost hit by a golf ball a few weeks ago....I see many lawsuits in the future....

Green Roofs

Hi. I just bought a building in JC with 3 flat roofs. I am considering putting "green" roofs on them to absorb rainwater and thus reducing the amount that ends up in my backyard and basement. Because it goes on top on the existing roof, I don't think I need a permit. Am I correct? Also, are there any tax benefits? Any advice and suggestions about "green" roofs would be appreciated. Thanks.

BEWARE Crack down on parking and permits etc.
Home away from home
Home away from home

Two tickets at $152/each in less than a week for me. Yes, I have no permit due to leasing vehicle and some bizarre complication related to that which no one can figure out.... not the DMV, leasing company, parking permit people, insurance company, title company - notta.

Regardless - parking for a year rotating with diligence and suddenly I learn I cannot park my vehicle in SAME ZONE more than ONCE in a day, once you've parked there ONCE you cannot move your car, go shopping and come back EVER. Okay, maybe I should have known this but I used to leave in the morning 8-10 time range and come back between 3-5 pm and WAS NEVER TICKETED FOR A WHOLE YEAR.

I figured that seeing as my vehicle was gone for many hours in between it was okay. It HAS BEEN OKAY FOR A YEAR of doing it with her driving by everyday. But NO MORE. They were just being lazy before apparently. I learned the hard way and so did about 3 other vehicles on our block, another block and another block in the past week. Never seen so many yellers, shouters and aggravated people - poor girl.

That doesn't stop her from NOT ticketing my neighbor's car when he's parked illegally during street cleaning - but that's because he knows her personally. Seen it with my own eyes, he told me with a wink. But the guy is nice, what can I say.

Once when I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Pulaski during rush hour I was stunned to find the reason for the backup was that a woman had lost a hubcap. She'd stopped her car in the right lane and by time I got abreast of her had found her dear hubcap and was walking casually back to her car. Some people are so stupid it's a wonder they are still alive.

Off topic: I find it amazing that I can't pump my own gas. Y'all would have laughed your asses off watching my first 'converstation' with the gas pumper guy at the Exxon by the Holland Tunnel.

me: (jumping out of car as usual) Hi. Thanks but I can do this.
him: No, I do.
me: No, thanks, I can do this.
him: No, no I do.
me: NO. I do this.
him: NO. You go to car.
me: NO. NO. You get your ass away from my car.
husband: (running fast out of the Exxon store)It's the law. He gets to pump the gas.

LOL. The man still remembers me when I go there. I just smile sweetly and hand him the credit card.

State Cracks Down on Gas Stations For Price Discrepancies, Inaccurate Pumps
Friday, June 20, 2008 - Millennium Radio
By: Martin Di Caro

As gas prices soar, you may not be getting what you pay for, even as you pay more and more.

State authorities on Thursday announced 350 gas stations were fined out of 1,023 stations that were inspected during a recent three-day operation in all 21 counties.
The most common violation (62) found by inspection teams was inaccurately calibrated pumps which dispensed fewer gallons into a driver's tank than the amount the customer paid for.

Weights and measures inspectors also discovered pricing discrepancies and inaccurate octane ratings.
Sate Attorney General Anne Milgram calls the investigation "deeply troubling," but conceded there is no way for a consumer to determine if he's getting less gas than what his receipt shows.

"What they're going to have to know is that we're out there doing it for them. To me, it is critically important the state and the counties play this role," said Milgram at a press conference at a West Orange gas station.

She encouraged customers to get out of their cars when they get gas to make sure they get the octane they requested and to verify if prices are properly posted.
If you spot something wrong at a gas station, like the prices being changed more than once per day, you are encouraged to call the state at 732-815-4840.
