Would be very interested in a local coop and just joined the JC FB page, mentioned here.
We spend many weekends in Vermont and are members of the Rutland CoOp...and find it bizarre that we cart veggies BACK to the *Garden State* each Sunday night. Farmer's market in downtown JC are good in the summer months, though we've encouraged the farmer's to venture out of the pedestrian offerings and plant varieties of arugula, kale, broccoli raab, etc. Not interested in working there but would be willing to pay a higher fee to offset this.

When I lived in Hoboken and Quick Check went out of business on Washington Street, I was so smitten wtih Trader Joe's that I called them and urged them to check out the space....even giving them the phone number posted in the window.
I had never done this before or since...but really wanted them closer to home. Trader Joe's New Location team called back a few days later saying "sorry but the rent on that location is way too high." So who opened there next? Garden of Eden and it's PACKED every night until closing. Read a recent article about atypical retailers leasing available mall space across the country: i.e. banks, grocers, etc. So maybe Newport Mall is an option?

Food Co-Op: would rock!
Hoboken-Style Deli with freshly made moozerella: please!! Bakery: bring it on!!! When, oh when, will the city council mandate historic signage for downtown shops? With the new *gas* lights, planters, side walks and repaving...out downtown has never looked better. Yet I am consistently disappointed with the plastic, neon, tender-loving-hands-at home business canopies and signs that are permitted. Journal Square business redevelopment area demands carved wooden signage and portrays a unified, tasteful vision.
