I would think that there are only so many boots to go around, and far more illegally parked cars. So you still probably have a better chance at getting a ticket than a boot. But maybe not, based on people's experiences.

Also, do you have to sign a lease for the parking spot or is it month to month?

Isn't it 2-hour parking from 8am-5pm. So technically you can park legally for 2 hours up until 10am. So why would you get a ticket at 8:45?

Two questions: 1) Has the rate always been $85/month or do they raise it every year? 2) If you have visitors can you give them your parking card and let them park in the garage too?

Getting the boot doesn't sound right at all. He must have had some other violations associated with his car.

Usually when that sort of thing happens it is because of a suspicious package. Were there a lot of police and fire units?

When I file I usually get a refund from NY and end up owing a bit to NJ. So it basically balances out. It's just annoying that you have to do two state returns - NJ, and NY Non-Resident.

Seems like every other car I see parked in JC has one of those police badge decals inside the front windshield. They probably buy them on ebay.

That should have raised a red flag right there. You should never have to put out any money just to see an apartment. And if she was actually dealing with Remax, Remax would have had an agent show the apartment. Sounds like common sense, but that's just me.

Why are empty loft buildings on Newark Avenue constantly burning down? My partner and I have witnessed two infernos from our top floor window in the past two years. I guess those "lofts for sale" that were never actually for sale when you called the owner are off the market at this point Sometimes it can be squatters that may be living in the building, especially now that the weather is getting colder.

Thanks for all the responses. I had the feeling it wasn't going to be easy (or cheap). I decided to have the picture picked up. It's not a particularly valuable piece and the shipping cost would probably outweigh it's value.

Shipping a Framed Picture

I need to mail a large, framed picture - approx. 30" x 25". Has anyone ever shipped something like this? Does anyone know where I can get a box and packing materials for this type of item? It is very fragile due to the glass. I already called the post office and they told me they do not have supplies. I called the UPS store and they told me it would cost $82 for packaging and shipping which is totally ridiculous.

This past summer I went to A&L Auto Body at Newark Ave. & 5th St. (right across from the fire station). They did a good job. I had to get a dent removed between two doors. It cost over $900 which seemed high to me, but it was paid for by the insurance company of the guy that hit me so I didn't really care about the price.
I tried Avel Auto Works first and had a terrible experience. They made me come back 3 times (the same day) just to get an estimate and even after the third time the receptionist told me the guy was too busy to speak with me, so I never even got the estimate and took my business to A&L.

Why do you think you were towed without reason? Even if you went to Shop Rite or BJs and then walked over to the mall, I think it is pretty much common sense that they can tow you.

I saw a news segment on these bulbs. While it may be good for the environment, the cost savings is only about $5/year total if you replaced every bulb in your house with the fluorescent bulbs.

Does the PA have an official website where you can download an application form? The one I found online at getnj.com is from a third-party website.

I called the PA today and confirmed that zone permits are valid until the end of the month in which they expire. However, the person informed me that they are no longer sending out courtesy renewal applications. You have to print the form online and mail it in, or go to the PA office in person.

I usually go to CVS in the mall. Actually, you can go to CVS.com or Kodakgallery.com and upload the photos from home. It tells you when they will be ready so when you go to CVS for the pickup you don't have to wait.
