Re: Plumber?

I recommend Pruzansky Plumbing. They just came out and fixed our tub. They could have lied to us and created a bigger job for themselves, but the guy was honest and simply fixed the tub. $140 + tax to come out.

Re: Crescent Court?

I live next to the Crescent Court site. The noise from the Turnpike has not been a big deal. I don't think my wife has ever complained about it. I have always wondered about the pollution coming from the Turnpike, but there have been no visible problems. No soot anywhere that I have noticed.

I do think our area is safer than the Dixon Mills area. Our area has much less foot traffic.

There have been people working on the building for awhile. It is slow but steady. The last estimate I received from the Project Manager was a completion date of Fall 2009. Who knows if they will meet it.

I got takeout from Abbey's a few weeks ago. I loved it! The BBQ chicken and ribs were delicious. I didn't think the prices were so great until I saw the huge portions. I definitely will be ordering again.

How much does the lockup system A&P has cost? Their carts lockup when you try to wheel them past a certain point in the parking lot.

Re: comcast last again.....

Comcast's latest trick is to require that a Supervisor approve any credits to your account. Of course a Supervisor is never available to talk to, so they are supposed to call you back within 5 to 7 days. When they don't call you and don't give you your credit, you have little recourse but to just call again. It is a joke. My cable wasn't working, so I had to call for a service call. Instead of crediting me for the time I was out of service (a week), they charged me $25 for the service call and marked it as "customer education." It was customer education that Comcast continues to rip me off. Do the tech people who come to our homes get a bonus for ripping us off?

I went to the MUA today in North Bergen. It actually was well organized and a pleasure! A person took all the items directly from my car and I was in and out in 5 minutes.

My service was out for a week. Not only did I not receive a credit on my latest bill, but they charged me $25.90 for the service call. They categorized it under "customer education." Now under a "new policy", I have to wait 5 to 7 days for a supervisor to review the credit request.

Comcast - deceive and frustrate the customer every chance you get.

I also loved the most recent "apology" letter they sent in the mail. They offered everybody a free VOD movie. Of course you had the order the movie, fill out a form and then request the credit by mail. What a joke. Crooks.

I live in the area now and it is relatively quiet. Things are looking up with the start of the construction of Crescent Court.

Comcast was nice enough to add a $13.95 charge on my most recent bill for a DVR box that I have never had. Check your bills! I am now going to call to complain...I really, really hate Comcast.

Are you specifically looking at the condos at the corner of First and Brunswick?

Skinner's Loft Brunch
Home away from home
Home away from home

My wife and I thought it would be nice to have brunch at Skinner's Loft today. We previously had two nice dinners there and were excited to enjoy brunch. In my experiences at Skinner's, the service has been shaky but adequate. However, we have very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

The frustration regarding brunch at Skinner's began when I found the Skinner's Loft website and saw that it had not been "finished" yet. No online menu to examine. Not a big deal though.

We arrived at 12:45 PM this afternoon and there was nobody to seat us. We went upstairs. Again, nobody to seat us. We went back downstairs and the bartender told us to go upstairs. When we got back upstairs a waiter pointed to a few empty tables and told us to pick one. We sat down next to the fireplace and waited for 15 minutes. No menus. We got the waitress' attention and she unhappily brought us menus. After 15 more minutes of nothing - no water, no "would you like a drink", nothing, we walked out. I am not a particularly demanding diner and this may have been the first time I have ever walked out on a restaurant. I mentioned the problem to the bartender downstairs and she kind of smiled and said, "yes we are busy."

With plenty of empty tables, they were not that busy. They simply had a couple of confused servers upstairs that were not able to cover all the territory. I have no idea what the current situation is there, but it was totally understaffed and the people did not seem to notice or care that we walked out.

We went to Hard Grove instead and had a decent brunch.

Parking Authority Night Shift

Does anyone know about the city eliminating the night shift of the Parking Authority beginning on February 11th? Apparently, the police will be responsible for illegally parked cars after 8 PM.

I think the point is to allocate the money to the schools directly. I believe the assumption is that once the money goes to City Hall, it is spent and not saved to allocate later.

Has anyone noticed an increase in graffiti downtown recently? I noticed some graffiti near First and Brunswick on homes.

Re: Fulop again donating his salary

What other political official donates like him? From what I have seen, he is definitely a unique "politician" to the point that he is more of a regular guy that wants to do what is right for his constituants.

I have friends around his age who make as much money as he likely does, but I do not believe they are donating $20,000-40,000 to anyone. He earned the money. Why should he donate it? And if his expenses are low and he doesn't have kids to feed? Does that mean it is any less of a donation? That is potentially rent money for the entire year.

I observed him for the first time at the Jersey City flood meeting a few months ago. The JC residents were furious at the MUA and many of the stories told were tragic. The MUA was simply being evasive and difficult in answering every question. Fulop repeatedly stepped in and tried not to let the MUA off the hook. He kept digging at practical short and long term solutions. I was impressed. He was willing to spend even more of his time at meetings to solve the problem.
