Re: Three 40-plus story towers on 110 and 111 First Street sites.

Hey, but they'll be building a facade that will maintain the hip streetscape the city was attempting to create.

Oy, vey!

Can residents of a city sue its government? Because that seems to be the way to get them to listen. . . . .

Re: Jersey City Mayor Healy arrested after Bradley Beach incident

A diabetic, having only five or six beers, in public, suggests that having more than that is also routine. I know diabetics who do this--it is not advised. The fact that it is the mayor of NJ's second-largest city is absurd. Welcome to Mayberry, RFD! We really do have clowns running this city, don't we?

Did he do anything illegal? I don't know. But when an apparently negligent drunken mayor encounters an overzealous shore cop and the whole incident gets played out in the papers, I say they deserve each other!

"Someday a book will be written on how Jersey City could be 'broke' in the midst of all this development."

Indeed.

Re: Please stop the huge 9/11 memorial at LSP - it will ruin the park's views of the Manhattan skyline!

I have got to agree that the monument is a bit, too, uh, monumental, especially considering it's location. If you're going to have some huge piece that's going to block out the skyline, why have it in the ONE place that will block out the most view? Why not have it further back from the water so that the only way it will block the view is if you go west of it?

And the fact that developers are currently blocking the view of NYC in the rest of JC is a great argument for stopping this monument--to preserve some of the remaining open sight lines.

It looks like there now will be public meetings on this, so hopefully a more reasonable design can be chosen.

We're chiming in anyway because we want to believe. Like I'll dismiss the line about Whole Foods needing parking (Manhattan has several Whole Foods without parking and we're kinda like Manhattan, except without the opera). I'll dismiss the April 1st part because April 1st happens every year, and sometimes stuff that's said on that day turns out to be true. I'll dismiss the lack of a mention on the Whole Foods website because they may be negotiating the lease in secret to keep their costs down and aren't quite ready to go public with the announcement. It could be true. Maybe.

I want to believe!

I want to believe, too but I have to dismiss your dismissing the line about parking. Manhattan has a much higher population density, and its residents have made an art of living without cars. A Whole Foods just wouldn't have enough people within walking distance in JC, and not enough people would take a cab. And I don't think our lovely planners would allow a non-lot store, anyway, because it would create congestion when everyone drives there and double parks on the street. Just imagine Sobseys in Hoboken, but a hundred times worse.

I'm hoping one of these big box stores pulls out and a WF oepns up. . . .

I think it's just another rumor of Whole Foods coming to Jersey City.

Years ago, when I first heard a similar rumor, I eventually heard through a friend who knew someone in the Whole Foods corporate offices that they would not open a location that didn't have significant parking.

It might happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Wow, that makes me pretty fricking angry. Hope the new governor's staff slams these cheats hard. Who cares whether there were no rules about how the funds can be spent--fraud is fraud.

I am not a big sports guy so here's a question for those that are. I find the nickname "gang green" revolting. Do the Jets encourage its use? I cannot for the life of me imagine why they would want to be associated with such a disease.

You obviously are not aware of their performance last season. . . .

Deeded parking question--if the spots truly are deeded with the property (each apartment), won't that run the risk of a spot going unused? If a non-car-owner gets an apartment with a spot?

Would it be better to have a limit on the parking spaces each unit could use? Each unit getting the right to apply occupy one spot, with available spots going to the next on the list?

Is crime up over what it was ten years ago? Maybe not. Is it up over what it was three years ago? I'd say it was, and that's the problem--the situation has regressed. Probably partly the economy, partly changes in policing (or no changes in policing--not being flexible and responsive).

Anyway, I'm still not moving. . . . .

Wow, sebe, for someone so well informed about JC real estate and its historic preservation rules downtown, it makes me wonder how you didn't know that there was a golf course there? Perhaps you already own the property and this post is just a way to create some hype for the hood?
