I think everyone is pretty much on the same page on where all this stink belongs to: the JCIA and however far up it goes. If business owners are getting away with illegal dumping and if sanitation workers are getting away with bending the rules for favors (bribery) then it all falls squarely on the JCIA. The news about how the JCIA allegedly ignored and threatened the owner for reporting the incident is by far the most disturbing part of all this and should be the focus of a bigger investigation.
Sadly, that's probably not going to happen. They will treat this as a one-off if nobody presses them any further and everybody is happy with the firing of one dumb shmuck.

If these things are indeed happening then I blame the JCIA for letting it happen. It seems to me the city is missing out collecting some fines with these violations, am I right? It's rather puzzling for me who has been on the receiving end of a JCIA ticket that such thing are being allowed so blatantly. It's either incompetence or there is underlying corruption.
I'm leaning more towards corruption with a side of incompetence.

The 'threat' is not of violence or any such that would make someone feel 'intimidated' on camera. If someone threatens me of not picking up my garbage, my first reaction would be utter annoyance and slight amusement as I will be looking forward to speaking with your boss.
Just to add, you keep harping on why JCIA or their contractors should pick up garbage they should not have. Nobody here is disputing that. The question is, why would you offer to do so in return for bribes? Don't pick up their garbage. End of story. Why even interact with the business and be in this position?

While the Confederate flag is indeed quite offensive it has been used in ways ISIS has used their symbols. The only difference being one is acknowledge as a Muslim terrorist while the other is what exactly? Try to fly an ISIS flag in this country and you will see people running like headless chickens. Meanwhile more black churches burn and nobody cares. It has gotten past being offensive, it is now a menace.
I don't know what it is exactly you want the 'Muslim community' to do. They are fighting ISIS. They are the ground forces fighting ISIS. They are the ones targeted most of the time by ISIS. Some Muslim leaders speak out against ISIS every time but I suppose it doesn't fit your narrative. It's a Muslim civil war, so if you think no one has spoken out against ISIS then you have not been paying attention. Entire Muslim countries and their leaders have vowed to crush ISIS for chrissakes!

You must be living under a rock because as far as the entire world knows, the ISIS conflict is a war between Muslims. The largest chunk of fighting is being carried out between Muslims who are for and against ISIS. Remind you of anything? You keep harping on about democracy as if it is all good. Well it isn't. Your libertarian pals will tell you they don't like the tyranny of the majority especially if it infringes on the rights of the individual. If this country simply followed the majority, the south would still be segregated. And did you just say you are okay with people being racist just as long as they are in the majority? Dude, you need to fix your brain, fast. There is nothing to be be proud about the Confederate flag, Southern or otherwise. It's a symbol of hate, and apparently a symbol of ignorance too. What exactly are you proud of? That you belong to the white majority? That makes it okay to accept racism? I wish the Confederate flag symbolizes something positive but it doesn't. The only thing it is good for is to remind of of an ugly past so we may never go back there again. Is that the pride you speak of? Doesn't seem like it.

JCIA. Tsk.
I hope they take this opportunity to 'clean house' because they are just a mess from a customer service standpoint. I heard from one of their inspectors that some changes are coming but I didn't expect this.

Everyone likes to say 'democracy' 'majority rule' because it favors their politics. These same people then conveniently ignores the presence of special interest groups from both right and left that influence government far more than the majority can or are even aware of. Either you are blissfully naive or a damned hypocrite. So lets be real here. Are you really trying to say that government buildings should fly these racist flags because of 'democracy'? Do you have anything else to add in its favor other than 'that's what most people want'? I am hoping that finally some sense will prevail in the South and take these flags down. I may have joked about it but how did with end slavery again? A civil war. Segregation? The Federal government had to act. Voting rights? Lets hope this time, they can solve this on their own.

Uhm, yeah you might want to look up hyperbole. This isn't even up for debate. If it was, you would be telling us the pros and cons of keeping the flag. I'm sensing you are struggling with that because all you have done is to remain desperately neutral. And no, Southern families sitting on their porch reminiscing about when they used to have Negro slaves is not a 'pro' in case you are wondering.

Yeah, I notice you are rather... lazy with your opinions but that's your right.
Where did you come up with me disagreeing with colors? Stop making shit up. I say nothing is decided yet because the South has a rather sordid history of deciding, or rather having the rest of the country decide for them. If we're lucky, it wouldn't take another civil war this time around to take down a silly flag.

So when the governor of SC (local government) starts saying we should get rid of that crappy flag already, it's a sign that people are starting to wake up. It took a mass murdering, race war waging clown to wake them up but I guess there is hope for SC yet.
Yeah, it's a local government issue so they will drag their feet because of their own stubbornness so I can't really blame people for burning the flag in the meantime.

First off, I got no qualms about people burning symbols, that's their personal right, but it is absolutely idiotic for any of our government to keep these idiotic symbols still flying around their buildings. I don't see Germany still waving the Nazi banner in theirs, do you? As for the ISIS flag, well, our military tries to do its best to demolish buildings that have them.
As some sensible people have said, if you want to 'celebrate' this shameful part of American heritage and history, go see it in a museum. Those should be the only public buildings the Confederacy should be remembered as perhaps a cautionary tale.

Since when did burning Nazi crap become so controversial? It's about 60 years too late to get so agitated about white pride, same thing with the Confederacy. What so great about reminding yourself of being a loser, which is what the Confederates were? A bunch of losers who couldn't let go of slavery. These things are better off buried and not influence some punk into starting a race war.
Burning a Koran? How about you burn an ISIS flag instead. You'll get the same warm feelings, trust me.

If it can be carried out swiftly and without added cost to the taxpayer? Go for it. I doubt that's going to happen though because we are a country that follows due process and this guy will be in death row until he runs out of appeals for however long that takes. The way it is done now, sentencing someone to death is too costly.
I would much prefer he be put somewhere in gen pop. He can do hard labor and be an actual productive cog of society. Chain gang fixing up roads, cleaning up streets and sewers. I don't know if they still have these arrangements though, probably too much of a security risk.

Nobody is asking to remove these breaks haphazardly. They are asking for better reporting, you know, that pesky transparency thing that everybody seems to want but can't agree on because of political gymnastics. With 5.1 B on the table, I don't think it is too much to ask for better reporting.

True but I think that it is also fairly reliable and not as prone to power outages. The longest I have ever been without power was during hurricane Sandy, and before that was when the entire northeast grid went down. If they can pay the bills, they can be operational for a long time.
