Re: Buying home in Neptune Ave at Ocean Avenue in Jersey City
Home away from home
Home away from home

Neptune... Ocean... Whoa. Blew through the intersection without ever pondering the connection. This three block area was probably crawling with hookers and drunken sailors in the 18th century.

Now this I never would have noticed:

Did you ever notice?

Resized Image

I have walked (or even ran) right through the entrance to the Danforth stop on the Light Rail many times. But after almost 2 years, I just noticed the petrified luggage that decorates the platform to the street. Upon further inspection I found a plaque that sheds a little light on what the luggage is doing there; it reads:

Immigrant Remnants Found
Remains Appear Petrified, Luggage Among Items Unearthed

During excavations for the construction of stations along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System, workers this morning came across what appear to be the petrified remains of luggage and other items buried under many feet of earth. Digging was immediately suspended at two sites after it was noticed that some of the exposed rock looked like old pieces of luggage. As a gathering crows looked on bewildered workers carefully pulled familiar shapes from the ground. By noon a trunk, a violin case, a hat box, a suitcase and some parcels had been counted among the unearthed items.

Construction managers at the two affected stations, the Richard Street station and the Danforth Avenue station, declined to officially comment on the bizarre findings. however, witnesses to the events of this morning seem convinced that the delicately articulated rocks were not really rocks at all, but petrified luggage.

Re: towing at shoprite?
Home away from home

Some of you seem to miss the point that these tow truck guys are evil. They prey on the poor, illiterate, and newcomers or tourists to Jersey City, raking in millions by stealing cars one after another and holding them ransom for a huge fees. They drive their trucks wildly back and forth between their lot and their prey zones in an attempt to maximize profits at the expense of others. They provide no benefit to the people of Jersey City and if BJs, Shoprite and Bed Bath and Beyond REALLY cared about making sure people didn't park in their lot, there are a thousand more ethical ways to enforce their rules.

Any attempt to hold these scumbags accountable for their evil actions and to promote knowledge about the problem is welcome and beneficial. YOU may be tired of hearing about it, but this is a great thing for someone new to the board or Jersey City to read about. People are going to keep talking about it and making a fuss until they change their ways.

Lastly, this is not a violation of privacy or harassment by any stretch of the imagination. There is absolutely no assumption of privacy when towing a vehicle from a public space. If you don't want your photo showing up online, don't steal cars.

yes.. the building is right next to, almost under the turnpike extension overpass. If you are considering buying there than you need to visit the site and decide whether you can live with sound from the highway. It's not just a constant hum of cars... but a hum punctuated with repetitive thuds?/thumps? as the wheels hit the segment joints of the highway. I myself decided I could not .

The really strange thing is if this site was one or two block east, it would be in the quietest sections of jersey city I have been too.

BTW if you don't mind the location, the square footage/finish/layout on this blows dixon mills away.

I drove by today and the pilings are done and they are starting to put some of the metal bars in for pouring the concrete. There were only about 4-5 workers. At least something is being done.

I live in Dixon Mills, so of course I think it is a good buy, but Crescent Court will probably have lower maintenance fees when it opens which might make it a viable alternative.

How drunk do you have to be to not notice getting shot in the leg? I sprained my ankle while I was drunk once and trust me, I felt it.

My Scooby sense tells me there is more to this story. To the mystery machine!

I think it's about time we close this thread. We all know we should not park in that lot and go to the mall or we will be towed. Whether they tow you in one minute or one hour is beside the point. End of story. I can't imagine there is anything left to be discussed here.

Always a bunch of kids outside making all kinds of noise. Let's hear from him I haven't heard anything that he plans on doing, changes he wants to make.

It is very nice of you (shane612) to write these positive things about Frank Gallagher. He should be proud of his achievements, even if others don't recognize him for the good work that he's done. Let's hope that he is properly recognized in the future.

I must say that when the topic of Grove Street Plaza came up I emailed Mr Fulop. I got a great response within a day. That being said my partner and I moved here in October. We went to the local district place on Grove/Manlia and 3rd street. Simple as pie.

I saw this all taking place and the tow truck driver in your window.

I almost pulled over to see if you needed assistance - I figured you were associated with the Toyota.

Is it not odd the cops acted the way they did?

Let me clarify, I'm not saying "lets violate everyones 4th amendment right and search every person that walks around..." I am saying that there is a lot of violence in Mont Gardens in general. Regardless of whether or not this incidient occured there. It would be nice to see more police present in the area, Maybe patrolling the area as they do in other projects/housing areas. (Ex, new houses and villa)

Is JCPD doing a better job? YES! I have seen improvements in many parts of the city from Journal Square to MLK. Improvements have taken place.

jc73, i too blame many of the parents but at some point the youth do have a choice. I personally know many people that live in mont gardens and have seen the good, bad and ugly that can come out of it. It's just sad that there are good kids/teens that don't have a choice but to live there and can't walk outside or sit on their stoop without worries of having to be prepared to fight or defend themselves.

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but if I am ever shot in the knee even while appearing intoxicated I will fall to the ground screaming. People within a 10 block radius will know I've been injured. I will NOT walk nearly half a mile.

I can't believe you people are still complaining about the towing, here it goes one more time, STOP PARKING THERE IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOP THER YOU WILL BE TOWED, did we get it . As far as whether or not they are towing cars illegally I haven't heard of any court cases that pepole have sued the tow company for taking thier car ilegally so I guess what they are doing isn't illegal. As for the BJs shopping carts its the BJs lot why wouldn't there be BJs shopping carts in the picture.

Re: journal Square: Homeless man cut with machete

Yes people another victim of a senseless crime, let me guess he didn't see anything and neither did anyone else. A street fight breaks out yet nobody sees or hears anything. How does one person show up to a fight with a machete and nobody sees a thing. Wait let me guess he was attacked by a NINJA. The ancient art of NINJITSU is still practiced in Jersey City and this guy made enemies with one, so he swooped down and in the middle of a street fight without being detected cut a man with a machete, ninjas of the 21st century don't use swords anymore, and slashed the man then proceeded to vanished into the night without being without a single eyewitness. Or it was a JEDI master who used his mind tricks to make himself invisble to all figuring let me use a machete because a light saber would draw too much attention to himself, cut the man and speed away on his speeder bike.
