Isn't NJCU a little late in that Rutgers is already there and the economy is weak! Or maybe this is great timing from a contrarian perspective.

Kolb's new attorney is apparently a specialist in this type of case. According to her website, she authored "Pitfalls for Pitbulls", NJ Lawyer Magazine, August 2005 and touts herself as an expert in NJ Vicious Dog law. Her website (which doesn't seem to be working - viewed in cache) says :
"In 1994, Gina took on the defense of ?Splinter,? a mixed breed terrier from Saddle Brook, wrongfully accused of an unprovoked attack on an 8-year-old girl. After two appeals and three trials, the verdict was finally overturned and Splinter was adjudicated not vicious. Since then, Gina has represented numerous ?death row? dogs, impounded under the New Jersey Vicious Dog Act. Her efforts led to the only reported decision on the Act, State vs. Smith, 295 N. J. Super. 399 (Law Div. 1996). Gina also handles other animal law-related cases, including veterinary malpractice, landlord tenant issues, pet custody, breach of contract and pet trusts, involving a variety of species and issues. Her representative clients have included animal activists, the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance, Closter Animal Welfare Society (C.L.A.W.S), Helping Hands of Passaic and other animal rights groups. She is on the Board of Directors of Caring About the Strays Inc. (C.A.T.S.). Gina?s work was also featured in an article in New Jersey Law Journal on animal law in 2002 and her various cases have been covered by the press and television. " I hope the prosecutor is doing his homework.

To the residents of Jersey City:
The past several years you have been good enough to participate in a long time Jersey City tradition, the ?One Block Parade?. This has become a very enjoyable time for many of the people of Jersey City. Many of the Hudson County and Jersey City departments participate and / or march in this short event. We urge you to again, to participate in this unique parade. This year, as you probably know, P.J. Ryan?s Pub has discontinued operation at this time. The building was sold and the P.J. This year, keeping with tradition, the parade will be on March 17th, Tuesday, promptly at 4PM. Please, the parade must start at exactly 4PM. We will be lining up on 2nd Street, east of Marin Blvd. and will march south on Marin Blvd. to 1st Street, where smaller vehicles can park and the larger equipment can continue down Marin Blvd. Our Mayor, the Municipal Council, Hudson County Executive and Officers, Sheriff, Chief of Police, Police Director, Fire Chief, Fire Director, just to name a few, are invited and have been good enough to attend in the past. This year our Grand Marshal is CouncilWomen Mary Spinello, our IrishMan of the Year is Robert Byrne, Irishwoman of the Year, MaryAnn Kelleher, Irish PoliceOfficer, Ed Dolan, JCPD, Irish FireFighter, Chief Michael O?Reilly, JCFD, Honorary IrishMan, CouncilMan Steve Lipski, Honorary IrishWoman, Vivian Bifulco and Miss Colleen, The Ryan Girls. Multifamily Market Looks Steady for Now
March 9, 2009 Globest.com 320 Fairmount Ave. The largest trade was the $12.5 million sale of 150 units at 317-343 Fairmount and 62 Kensington avenues in Jersey City. Sales associate Benjamin Greenstein and vice president Alan Lieberman represented the seller and procured the buyer, both of whom are long-time private investment clients. The five mid-rise buildings are located in close proximity to Journal Square and Saint Peter?s College. Each features an all-brick fa?ade and a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units. The buildings were approximately 80% occupied at the time of sale. "To take advantage of the hot investment climate in Jersey City, the buyer is planning comprehensive renovations, including a state-of-the-art security system, that will add short and long-term value to the buildings," Greenstein says, noting also that area occupancy rates are approximately 95%. According to Gebroe-Hammer, area rental rates are $825 for one-bedroom and $975 for two-bedroom units. Favored by commuters traveling to Manhattan--as well as western parts of New Jersey--Jersey City offers a variety of convenient transportation options, including bus lines, rapid transit, ferries, tunnels and rail lines. Legal counsel was provided by Harold Ritvo, PC, of Hackensack, and Jonathan Mehl, Esq., of Rutherford, on behalf of the seller and buyer, respectively. Two additional deals exceeding $3.35 million also were closed in nearby Newark. Executive vice presidents David Jarvis and David Oropeza orchestrated the two separate sales for 260-262 and 254 Mt. Prospect Ave., located in the Forest Hills neighborhood. Jarvis also negotiated the sale of 119 South Orange Ave.--a commercial building in South Orange--for $780,000, while Oropeza and sales associate Elliott Schechter orchestrated the $3.24-million disposition of 391 Union Ave., a 65-unit building in Irvington. Legal representation for the sellers and buyers in the Hudson and Essex County deals was provided by Daniel J. Roy of Maplewood and Richard Kelin of Feinstein Raiss Kelin & Booker of West Orange for 260-262 and 254 Mt. Prospect avenues; Wolf Block of Roseland and Daniel J. Roy for 119 S. Orange Ave.; and Irving Tobin of Hillside and Robert A. Schandler of Cliffside Park for 391 Union Ave. Rounding out the transactions, sales associate Stephen Tragash negotiated the $835,000 sale of the Unionville Rd., a 10-unit building in Sussex. According to Marcus & Millichap, while apartment performance topped all commercial sectors in 2008, rising job losses will push vacancy up more dramatically this year. According to its recent Apartment Outlook report, in most metro areas, class B and C properties will be the least affected by the economic downturn, as many households will continue to be forced to seek more affordable housing options. Meanwhile, fundamentals in the class A segment have been disproportionately impacted by eroding household credit quality, which has made it difficult for many renters to qualify for high-end units. http://www.globest.com/news/1362_1362/newjersey/177322-1.html

'Graphic' dog-bite pics delay trial
Saturday, March 07, 2009 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Deciding how to handle graphic medical images caused another delay in setting a trial date for the two allegedly vicious South African boerboels that have been tied to several Downtown attacks and could be euthanized under the state's Vicious Dog Law. The dogs' owner, Susan Kolb, has asked for a trial to defend the animals. At yesterday's pretrial hearing, her attorney noted that she had not received the disc that contains images of the injuries of the victims. Prosecutor Armando Molina quickly produced the disc, but said the pictures were very graphic. He said he wanted to have a conference to decide how they would be used and also said he wanted a confidentiality agreement before he would share them with the defense. With a courtroom full of people waiting to appear for other matters, Municipal Judge Nesle Rodriguez said, "I just can't do it today, I have a packed courtroom." Rodriguez set Friday at 1 p.m. for a hearing to deal with the disc - apparently the last hurdle before setting a trial date. Kolb's lawyer, Gina Calogero, said she was ready to go to trial yesterday. Calogero noted that the dogs have been impounded since Jan. 19, the day after the most recent attack. The proceedings have been delayed several times already because the defense was waiting to receive documents from prosecutors. "It is very important to my client and the state that this is resolved," Calogero told Rodriguez. Jonathan L. Rodriguez, 24, of Brunswick Street, was injured Jan. 19 when, he says, Kolb unleashed the dogs and they ran across the street and tore into his arm. James Joyce, 24, said he needed six stitches after being attacked Jan. 9. Kolb said Joyce was not injured. On Sept. 21, at the park at Greene and Essex streets, police said the two dogs knocked down a woman and the 6-month-old child she was carrying. Kolb has complained that officials at the Humane Society have barred her from visiting the dogs.

Shot in the street
Saturday, March 07, 2009 A Jersey City man was shot in the stomach yesterday afternoon on Martin Luther King Drive. The 19-year-old victim, a resident of Armstrong Avenue, was on the street at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday when a stranger approached him and shot him for no apparent reason, police said the victim claimed. As the gunman fled, he attempted to discard the gun under a parked car, but it bounced off the vehicle's side and landed in the middle of the street, witnesses told cops. The gun was secured by the Rev. Ronnie-Calvin Clark, who kept other people on the scene from touching the weapon until police arrived, police spokesman Stan Eason said. The Greenville victim was listed as being in stable but critical condition at the Jersey City Medical Center, Eason said. Police are recovering fingerprints from the gun and are looking for a suspect, Eason said. Clark is a candidate for City Council in Ward F, which includes MLK Drive. "I was standing there in front of 348 MLK greeting some of the business owners and the shooter dropped the gun right in front of me," Clark said. "This is why we need change in the community." We recently decided to get rid of Verizon DSL when our contract was up. I called Comcast Friday night to inquiry about package specials---we don't have cable, don't watch much TV except Netflix or via download. I got the information, discussed it with my family and called back to order internet alone, since they are running a very good deal on that. Well, the second person I talked to quoted a price $40/month higher, and said she had never heard of such a special. We both got a little heated, and I said I was hanging up and calling back later to get the real deal from one of her colleagues. And I did exactly that. I am not sure exactly what the lesson here is, but I do know we are at the mercy of many incompetents.

Director of state Center for Hispanic Policy charged with DUI in Jersey City
by Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Saturday March 07, 2009, 11:14 AM The director of the state Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development was charged with drunken driving in Jersey City Thursday night, according to a report in the Jersey Journal. Officers said Angie Armand was abusive and tried to use her connections to get out of trouble, officials said. According to the report, Armand, from Jersey City, was arrested on Pinecrest Road and Oakdale Road at 8:33 p.m., officials said. Police traveling northbound on Route 440 said they narrowly avoided a head-on collision with Armand, who was driving her Honda Accord south in the northbound lanes, police said. Google MapsPinecrest Road and Oakdale Road, Jersey City According to the Jersey Journal, when stopped, Armond, 44, told officers that her brother was a Newark police officer and that police were "supposed to let" her go, according to the police report. The Jersey Journal also reports that at the Sheriff's Office, Armand became enraged when told to take a Breathalyzer test, according to the police report. "My brother is a cop. Why are you doing this to me?" she asked, the report said. Armond then told an officer to "go to hell," according to the police report. In a holding cell, Armand "became loud and aggressive," threatened to sue officers and said she knew Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez, according to the police report. Angie Armand, 44, of Lembeck Avenue in Jersey City, was arrested at 8:33 p.m. at Pinecrest and Oakdale roads, officials said. She was charged with driving under the influence, reports said. Advertisement The Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development is part of the state's Department of Community Affairs. Attempts to reach Armand through her office last night were unsuccessful. Sheriff's officers traveling northbound on Route 440 said they narrowly avoided a head-on collision with Armand, who was driving her Honda Accord south in the northbound lanes, reports said. The officers put on their flashing lights and pulled her over at Country Village. That's when Armand became irate, reports said. "My brother is a Newark police officer and you guys are supposed to let me go!" Armand is quoted in the police report. Officers smelled alcohol and Armand failed a sobriety test, reports said. At the Sheriff's Office, Armand became enraged when told to take a Breathalyzer test, reports said. "My brother is a cop. Why are you doing this to me?" she asked, the report said, adding that she told an officer to "go to hell." In a holding cell, Armand asked for medical attention, reports said, and then refused to get in an ambulance. She then "became loud and aggressive," threatened to sue officers and said she knew Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez, reports said. Eventually, Armand was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center for evaluation, reports said. Armand's sister met her at the hospital, reports said. ================================= No comment on director's arrest, says Doria Monday, March 09, 2009 By CHARLES HACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Three days after a state director for Hispanic affairs was arrested Thursday night in Jersey City for driving under the influence and allegedly trying to use her connections to avoid arrest, her boss refused to comment. Joseph Doria Jr., the director of the Department of Community Affairs and former mayor of Bayonne, yesterday said he only learned about the incident after reading the newspaper Saturday, and wants to find out what happened for himself. "I have to get all details and information about exactly what took place and move on from there," Doria said. "I am not going to comment about something I have no knowledge of." Sheriff's officers who arrested Angie Armand, 44, said in reports that after stopping Armand following a near head-on collision with her on Route 440 as she drove south in the northbound lane, she became abusive and tried to use her connections to get out of trouble. Armand, the director of the state Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development, was arrested at 8:33 p.m. at Pinecrest and Oakdale roads, officials said.
