The original date was for May 2009, but they just recently pushed it back to June 2009. Hopefully it will be done within the next few months for the warmer weather.

Depends on the signs.
If its not posted, then its fair game.
If its part of a zone, it will say so.
If its "No Parking" it will say so.
If its not posted, then go for it.

Nope, we will tow you. Get a parking permit and save yourself the aggravation because the LH cameras look for anyone parking then walking across Grand.

The holiday lights on the gazebo should be turned off, but the others should stay on. I think the idea is to prevent the park from becoming a giant canvas for graffiti artists. A dark, sealed park is asking for trouble.

It is sad to see the park all fenced up. Even more sad to see it fenced up and no work going on. When will they start the construction??

I am moving to VVP District in a few days for 4 months, and looking at the parking zones and I am on the edge of zone 1 near liberty harbor. Since the liberty harbor area is not a zone covered by the JC parking authority, am I allowed to park on the street anywhere there?

I thought they had said June 2009. About a week ago I was on the light rail and it looked like 2/3 of the bridge was built and most of the walkway on the Hoboken side was ready for concrete.

Healy has spent close to 3 million on his campaign (tax payer paid summer, spring mailers and construction/paving site signs not inlcluded). What's he afraid of? Manzo, Levin, Smith and Webb combined, haven't even come close to that figure.....

Latin Kings gangster in court over 2005 Jersey City Heights murder

by Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal
Friday May 01, 2009, 10:17 PM

A $1 million cash-only bail was set today for the Latin Kings street gang member who was arrested in Maryland last week by U.S. marshals after being on the run since a 2005 murder on a Jersey City Heights street corner.

The marshals used a taser to subdue Joseph "King Megs," Moreira, 29, formerly of Marshall Drive in Hoboken, when they arrested him last Friday night in Prince Charles County, officials said.

Moreira was returned to New Jersey Thursday night and yesterday made his first appearance in court on charges he gunned down Juan Batista, 26, on Oct. 18, 2005, on the sidewalk outside a Palisade Avenue barbershop, officials said.

Central Judicial Processing Court Judge Richard Nieto informed Moreira of the bail, but also told the defendant he would be held without bail because there is a detainer on him for a violation of parole and a detainer related to a Family Court matter. Moreira appeared via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny.

A tip on the Latin King's whereabouts led to a monthlong investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said when Moreira was arrested he "was refusing to admit who he was and didn't want to be cuffed and after not complying with the authorities, he was tased and taken into custody."

On the night of the 2005 shooting, Moreira got out of a car, approached Batista, and said something to him before opening fire, officials said. The victim was shot multiple times in the head and back, but managed to run a few steps before collapsing, officials said. The motive for the shooting was a prior beef between the gunman and victim, investigators said.

Today, Moreira spoke privately for some time with Public Defender Don Gardner using the phone in the video conferencing room. Afterward, Gardner said he would note the matter they discussed, but he did not disclose what the conversation pertained to.

The case against Moreira will now be presented to a grand jury seeking indictment.

Healy is trying to tarnish Manzo's time in Trenton
Saturday, May 02, 2009

J ersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy is using some of his millions of dollars to hammer the man he apparently sees as his closest rival, Louis Manzo, with a new wave of mailers, flyers and letter writing aimed at trying to destroy Manzo's reputation as a legislator.

The blitz has raised some eyebrows. It begs the question that if Healy is so far ahead, why not go into cruise control and keep the election campaigning low key enough to put voters to sleep.

One colorful and very expensive-looking mailer went out blaming Manzo for "Higher taxes. Higher crime. Fewer jobs. Dirty streets and parks."

Your first thought is why didn't we notice that Manzo was the mayor of the city?

No, the mailer is accusing Manzo of "the old, failed politics." Doesn't that perfectly describe Hudson County? But it succeeds in getting people elected, so how much of a failure can it be.

What they are trying to say is that the mayoral hopeful was also a freeholder and actually gave contracts to vendors who also gave to his political campaigns. This theme goes on, and it makes one wonder.

If the Jersey City administration feels so strongly about this, why are they afraid to approve pay-to-play legislation? Why did the administration refuse to entertain this measure and other ethics reform legislation that Councilman Steven Fulop tried and failed to push through the City Council?

The most interesting attack was this: "Lou Manzo is actually remarkably ineffective at getting anything done. As a Trenton legislator, only 17 percent of the bills Manzo sponsored passed into law."

Consider these numbers about the Assembly. There are about 18 voting sessions each year in the Assembly. You figure out how many that is over four years and it will give you an idea how often you can get a bill through a committee and on the floor for a vote.

In Manzo's four years, he was a sponsor of 956 proposed bills, of which 165 measures became law. It is a good number, one many legislators cannot match. The number is prolific if you consider Manzo and Gov. Jon Corzine, both Democrats, are far from best buddies. It also goes to show how the use of percentages is a very poor way to make an argument.

Yeah, well Healy has to pander to the likes of Flood and "aka Tayari". A white Irish drunk does not get the african-american vote without giving them their high-paying no-show jobs.

Oh, and I forgot all about Cantrillo being the one reasponsible for that fiasco involving the 911 memorial with all the flightless drowning birds in the hudson. He was supposed to get doves but got squabs instead. Awesome judgment. Guy Cantrillo-he's certainly Healy's Guy. Just don't let him be ours.

Let's vote Fulop.

What a huge blanket statement to make. Have you ever known anyone who lived in an NYC housing project? I have several friends who were born and raised in a certain project in west Chelsea and I promise you they live better than a lot of people I know. With their pits, who are luckily grandfathered in.

So its cool when people who live in projects are milking the system, since you suggest they live better then most? Not that this is any news to me. I lived in Ivy Hill, Newark as a kid so I've seen plenty of people driving around in beamers and paying for food with welfare checks. (When the tables turn and the system takes advantage of the poor you'll be the first one to cry about it I'm sure.) Housing projects were designed to get people on their feet, they aren't meant to be permanent living. Having a pet is a luxury for the responsible, working class people. Pay Liberty Humane Society a visit, perhaps walk one of the many pits while you're at it. Somehow I doubt they ended up being abandoned or abused by people from the brownstones downtown.

Again Yvonne, you mix your issues. You started off by inveighing against the property owners who have "abatements" and now you reverse courses and cite "reduced state income taxes for companies that relocated" on the waterfront. Two entirely different cohorts. My point was that residential development would have been much more difficult to sell (not to build) without the PILOT program. It's quite possible that residential development would have failed initially without it.

You may know things that others don't but if you don't understand them, what's the point?

Re: Guy Catrillo is a Repulican and a screw up

This is an unnecessary mudslinging thread.

Guy has been a community organizer for over 30 years! He has had so many successes and he inspires people to come together in this diverse community. The fact that he is a Republican should not be a negative thing

The 9/11 Memorial Ceremony which I attended was beautiful. The bird story happened in a blink of the eye that took the attention away from the sadness and depression we were all feeling on that 1 year anniversary. The media clinged on to the "bird" story to lighten up the tearful tragedy that we were remembering. I did not even know Guy was the person in charge. And I was right next to the pier that the birds landed on.

Though I support Steven Fulop as Councilman, I will not sling mud at Guy Catrillo to make Steven look better. They are both worthy opponents and bring different skill sets to the table. They are both very valuable to the community.

THE END!

Sorry to use a post about you as an example Dan (click here)

The OP of this thread has 4 posts with his I'm new here bit.
A big JCList welcome to the newest person to come on here with an "agenda". Political hackery once again,

As far as Guy Catrillo goes..I was his friend before he decided to run and will be his friend after May 12th. Guy Catrillo like Dan Levin are our neighbors and friends and not someone who we met via politics. Just something to think about before publicly dissing your friend or neighbor on the internet.
