i have been booted/towed many times. twice within a 24 hour period for a barely expired permit and once because i was parked on a dead end st and my car was dented up so they thought it was stolen, joyrided and ditched - the PA called the cops to tow it. i never got refunded.

now i wipe dog doodie on the boots.

life is full of little pleasures and small victories.

I feel your pain, Greenville. I feel your pain.

Maybe if a tabby cat was shot in a taqueria while holding a backflow preventer in the Greenville section - then maybe someone would bother reading.

Maybe.

Probably not.

Jeez - Icechute didn't even bother to give us the regular line. We got some sort of half baked version.

Sucks to be from Greenville, that's all I can say.

Having convenient stores within walking distance does not make the area loud and busy. I've lived on Mercer and Barrow, and now Varick and Wayne, and both areas are very quiet, and I hear the birds chirping. But unlike in Paulus Hook, I can walk three blocks and pick up stuff to make dinner with.

Some of you people sound like the ignorant voters in California not wanting to pay up. Services and infrastructure costs money. Why blame Corzine for doing what he needs to do? I'd rather pay more taxes to main a relatively high standard of living.

The gun buy back, IMO, is indeed a good idea, but not really in terms of it's impact on crime.

IMO, most of the buy backs you'd see would be old, rusty, dusty guns that have been sitting in someone's closet for years. No question it would be better to be rid of these - it might help prevent things like kids shooting themselves (or others) by accident, and truthfully, it is one less *potential* gun on the street to be used for crime, but I highly doubt that true criminals would be lining up to get a few bucks (probably less than they just paid for it) for the gun they're planning on using.

Just my opinion. Who knows, you might get a few "real" guns off the streets, and that would be great, but I don't think it would really make a significant dent. But hey, you have to start somewhere, and I guess every single gun out of play makes a potential difference.

Whatever its called - leash your g*damn dog - enough already. Obey the law. Grow up. If you can handle leashing the dog - don't get one.

bottom line. if you use the park, whether you bring your dog there or each lunch there or whatever the f you do there, you should leave the park in the exact same condition as it was when you got there. but for the most park, people are awful, lazy, trashy, and just downright disgusting.

maybe harsher punishment would help. litter = lose a finger.

Surely one of the nice things about Paulus Hook is that there isn't a profusion of shops/take out places etc. I love living in Paulus Hook precisely because it is quiet and not like other parts of the city.

I would much rather deal with unleashed dogs and their poop then high school students who throw beer bottles up in the air because they are still in pre-operational stage of development and are extremely amused with how gravity works. I really wish they weren't allowed out during lunch...and out of their mothers wombs.

Re: Paulus Hook Park

When you enter the park, there's a big sign prominently displayed indicating the name, "Liberty State Park" as well as it's rules. No where will you find it referred to as "Paulus Hook Park".

It's not only a name, but a very pertinent detail as yer bitchin' about the the "state park police" enforcing dog leash rules when it's actually the JCPD enforcing such local ordinance. (you start off with a factually incorrect statement, "People call the state park police to complain about dogs off leash".)

The JCPD are doing so for a very good reason. There has been recently 4 dog bitings in Paulus Hook, with the most recent one happening inside Liberty State Park.

The zoning rules are created to cause confusion and generate money it seems. Why can't downtown be one large zone? Bottom line, we all want to park closest to our homes anyway. As far as the scratch-off decals go, they had no business asking for a license or registration. I was told and the parking authority that ANYONE can purchase those and they don't have to be residents of JC.

This is yet another variation on that old chestnut, "JC has bigger problems than dog poop on the sidewalks," a limpdick argument invariably made by irresponsible pet owners whenever someone has the stones to complain about their rude behavior.

NJ Supreme Court has ruled. The current funding formula is constitutional and no supplemental funding will be given to prior Abbott districts outside of the formula.

I dont think this is bad news for all prior Abbott districts but it is definitely bad news for Jersey City as relative to many other municipalities, the city has significant property wealth (a key factor in the new formula) and will be forced to pay an increasing share of the cost to educate its children.

This, coupled with a reduction in new PILOT payments and other real estate related one-shot revenues coming online in the coming years, spells trouble for JC. The city will have nowhere to turn but to taxpayers who are already struggling unless the local real estate/condo market turns around quickly.

This is not going to be pretty.

Re: Paulus Hook Park

The city may have a lot of other problems, but I believe they need to step in and enforce leash laws as well because obviously dog owners live in their own world. Case and point, the woman that was mauled by a dog a few months ago.

Your dog may be "so sweet" or "would never hurt anyone," but what it comes down to is, they are still animals. Not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. Keep it on a freaking leash. I don't want to be chased by your dog when running through the park. End of story. GET A LIFE.

We live in Paulus Hook and the lack of amenities here is pathetic.
Why don't shops open up here, like a bagel shop, pizza joint, breakfast and or lunch eatery, supermarket, bakery, chinese take out, clothing stores, shoe store, blah blah blah??
Anybody know? I mean are there not enough people living here to sustain it? Sure as hell are enough condos. Grrr...
