how about making all of these buildings legal 3 families and raising the taxes accordingly. this way they would fall under the city and state green card inspections etc.

Although I am a supporter of the right to carry, I am not a huge fan of guns in bars.

The article quotes the BBC and the Colbert Report two really reliable sources.

what some people fail to realize is that in the 42 states that you have complete right to carry concealed firearms, gun violence is actually lower than in the strictest states.

Philidelphia and Miami are two east coast cities that allow the right to carry. do you feel less safe when you visit these cities?

Chicago is the strictest city in the US for gun control and violence is soaring out of control. washington DC also has strict gun laws and violence is out of control there too.

England has seen a sharp rise in gun violence since they banned guns.

Again, I'm for strict phsycholigical and physical testing before someone is issued a permit to carry but I think its the individuals right to defend themselves.

Wegmans is cheaper than most chain food stores on many items - surprise if you did not know this!! One can save lots of money by shopping there. One can also find very expensive fancy items there also if they desire and can afford them. I should know - I've been working there now for 6 years and love it! The Shoprite is fine for certain things but of course the service is horrid. Shoprite does not train/pay their workers enough. You get what you pay for.

Goetz was acquitted in the shooting. Ironically, he did time only for illegal possession of the handgun.

Criminals surely have guns, but when they can be sent away for ten years simply for being caught carrying them, they tend not to bring them on the subway.

I think that was based solely on the percentage of people who walked to work. It's hard for me to imagine the city was ever actually friendly to pedestrians given urban planning nightmares like putting a shopping mall and its parking garage between entire neighborhoods and crucial mass transit stations.

I can't imagine anywhere else where there would be a school on a busy street leading to and from a major traffic bottleneck with a pedestrian entrance to a shopping mall directly across that street, also used by commuters to access a major mass transit station, and no stoplight at the crossing. It's actually mind-boggling.

i totally agree with creativeconquests - a lot of coffee shop-like places have opened up recently in the downtown area, but i don't think any of them have successfully achieved: good hours (mornings and evenings), consistent schedule, good service!, fresh food, variety of food (savory and sweet), at decent prices.
Not all places can be all things to all people - I understand that. But there is not one coffe shop-type place downtown that I enjoy going to right now.
I am in-between Hamilton Park and VVP and I would walk to either location you are suggesting, provided that the place was worth it!

I don't see how Morton Williams gets enough business to be viable. There's never anyone there when I've gone. They have nice produce, meat and fish, but everything is expensive. It seems to me they must rely on the captive customers of Newport who have no cars. They don't seem to be making much of an effort to let anyone else know they are there. They validate parking (you enter the garage from the side street behind the store) but there are only about a dozen spots near the store entrance. Even so, they are mostly empty when I've gone.

Hey they don't care about safety. And I wouldn't even worry about the light if people in cars knew how to obey the rules of the road. Light or not that is a CROSSWALK and do you know what you must do in a car when you see a crosswalk and a pedestrian you must STOP because the pedestrian has the right of way, not speed up, no flick me off or honk your horn but STOP. Jersey City needs to enforce this at every crosswalk in town because it is extremely dangerous for pedestrians. Only took Somerville a couple of months with signs posted in the middle of every pedestrian crossing and enough tickets written that people there do it out of habit now. This city was written up 5 years ago in the Wall Street journal as being one of the most pedestrian friendly cities in the COUNTRY. It surely would not be ranked that now.

That said, if you know in advance you are leaving, you are more likely going to have a happier landlord to deal with if you give notice. Thats if you care about your landlord at all or want all of your security back. (landlords can come up with many reasons not to pay you back the security)

The following details the complete disregard for
the actual quality of services rendered, and ethics of the person rendering them, when you have enough political pull in this county. Richard Censullo, as far as I know, continues to retain Hector Carbajales as animal control officer. Carbajales is the scumbag that left animals to die and stole $12K from the now closed and infamous HC SPCA.

The two of them are thick as theives apparently. Let's round them up with the other indicted Hudson County officials.

Also, let's check out Mayor Smith's finances while we're at it. If this job could be done for $30K, why was he paying someone else $115K? Seems fishy.

Health officer deal would save $$$
Thursday, August 06, 2009
Bayonne will be contracting with North Bergen for the services of the township's health officer if the City Council approves Mayor Mark A. Smith's recommendation next week.

Under the proposed agreement with North Bergen, Bayonne would pay $30,000 a year to use Richard J. Censullo as its health officer, said Anthony D'Elia, the interim general counsel for Bayonne.

The Bayonne Municipal Council is to vote on the resolution at next week's council meeting.

Under state law, each municipality is required to employ at least one licensed health officer so that its inspectors can issue health violations, officials said.

That function was performed by Brigid Breivogel, the former health director and health officer; she retired at the end of June from her $115,092-a-year job.

D'Elia said the new arrangement will save the city tens of thousands of dollars. Under the agreement there are no set hours but Censullo would be on call around the clock, he said.

Breivogel's job as director is being covered temporarily by Peggy Lanni, director of the Bayonne Office on Aging.

Also on the agenda next week will be hiring a former Hudson County prosecutor, Charles Michael D'Amico, of Paterson Plank Road in Secaucus, as general counsel for the city.

D'Elia said the only other applicant to respond was Eric Bernstein, of Bernstein & Associates, of Warren.

D'Elia said that while Bernstein was well qualified for the job, he would have further to travel. He also could not commit to the job full-time.

"It is a big job in Bayonne and demands the attention of a full-time attorney," D'Elia said.

D'Elia, of Secaucus-based Chasan Leyner & Lamparello, has been acting as interim counsel to the city since Mayor Mark Smith fired interim law director John Coffey II.

Would such advance notification then FORCE your move by overriding the lease renewal option? "But you SAID you were moving out."

I would say no additional notice is required. Renewal has to happen 30 days prior to end of lease -- right? -- so if you don't renew, it means you're moving out.

Self-defense justifies the use of deadly force solely to protect your life*, not your cigarettes. Nor does it justify punishment. The line between preventing someone from killing you and teaching them a lesson gets very blurry when you're pumped full of adrenaline and holding a loaded weapon, as Bernie Goetz can tell you. Are you really advocating the death penalty for a bunch of kids hassling someone on the subway?

What about the bystanders caught in the crossfire?

What people who advocate concealed weapons on the subway alway seem to ignore is that they are not going to be the only ones carrying the weapons. So will the meth-heads and the thugs. The guy glowering across the aisle with his legs spread out so he gets two seats is going to be "defending himself" too. He's very quick to feel disrespected, and to him, disrespect is more serious than a pack of cigarettes.

No thank you.

*-Except in Texas where you can use deadly force to protect your stuff. Yee-hah!

Re: NJ transit to build pedestrian bridge from Hoboken to Newport

I think the delay is caused by the lack of a plan for what to do with all of us when we get INTO the Hoboken train staion.
Can't go THROUGH it running and biking, can't go around the water side (that's where the old ferry slips are.)
Can't safely have a walkway crossing the busy Light Rail tracks in FRONT of the trains.

In other words, how do you get from the Light Rail Station to Sinatra Park?

If I am correct it will be YEARS before they sort this out.
