Continue to withold rent and move out. Make sure you have a hard copy of your complaint. I hope this helps.

Meanwhile, my apartment upstairs smells like a dead body and the roaches and mice from their place are now overwhelming. The allergic reactions I've been having from their dirt and mildew getting into the air have made it inhabitable. My roommates and I have talked to the family, but the father is a stubborn man and now appearing somewhat delusional. The landlord is being extremely soft on them since they will be homeless and hasn't made a strong effort to get them out. We have withheld rent but I would much rather be able to live in my own apartment. Surely they can't just refuse forever, this has to be some sort of health violation? Any advice is appreciated.

For the first time since I was eligible to vote I will not be able to vote.

After the chaos I had to go through just to get to work today and STILL WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TO WORK, I will not kill myself to come back to JC and go to any polling location in Paulus Hook only to let me know my name is NOT IN THIS LOCATION. My work is more important to me. I need to get paid. Stinking politics on both parties has not helped me in 3 1/2 yrs!

So for those who can vote, good. I just hope life will be a bit easier for the working disappearing middle class after this.

FYI: emailing or faxing will not do justice to apply to vote. This day has been so stressful and wasteful as it is.

I'm not displaced. My apt was not damaged by the hurricane.
it's just that NJ did not mail me The Sample Election Ballot Pamphlet that they normally do when Presidential Election (which is every 4 yrs) come around.

But I will see via website and find a way . Thanks all.

This is just getting worst! lol - i can't even print - I have no printer.

Thanks...

Unfortunately, I have no way of getting there. I'm running out of cash - cabs not only jacked up the price they only accept cash. No buses go there. The State of NJ won't allow me to vote. They're making it hard for me to do so. I have to get back to work. Already missed 1 week. They won't allow me to take time off for this. And by the time I get off from work and the hassle commute i have to face the place is closed.

Regarding Election Ballot Pamphlet....

Did anyone received the Election Ballot Pamphlet by mail yet? I haven't and Tues is the election. I moved to a different zip code since the last Presidential Election, could that be why I did not get the election ballot in the mail? But I've moved from Hoboken to JC and I received the Sample Election Ballot Pamphlet in the last presidential election.

I guess for the first time , I won't be able to vote.

Perhaps, I voiced my opinion to the powers at be about illegal immigration that is why I did not received my Sample Election Ballot Pamphlet and where to go to vote. I've been deprived to vote. Isn't this against Federal Law?

Re: Buses to Manhattan
Home away from home
Home away from home

NY Waterways were shuttling people to NYC Wednesday. Long lines that's for sure but the ferries were more than usual.

PA won't provide buses. THEY NEVER DID in this day and age. NJ Transit Buses do and whoever is in charge won't bus people from Downtown JC directly to NYC when services are disrupted. I have never seen "special shuttles" for us down here when Path was suspended - Did you see one during 9/11? Although, they made us go to 33rd St. Path and catch our respective subways.

if you want a direct NYC transport than walk to Hoboken, I heard HOB Ferries to NYC are operational Monday.

FYI: No. 80 for one are running more and more buses from Grove St - Path Plaza to JSQ Bus Terminal since Saturday. Which only led me to realized that's where people who need to go to NYC transfer to a NY Bus or Community Line Jitney to Port Authority-NYC I had to do that Saturday.

brewster wrote:

That's nonsense. There's no way the ferries could actually absorb the demand from all the Hoboken & JC commuters that normally use the PATH. If the PA is actually are getting equipment from the feds and there's a bus lane through the Holland, then there should be buses picking up passengers at Grove Plaza and shuttling them through the tunnel to a major subway stop.

Re: Buses to Manhattan

But we are given transportation options in Downtown JC in a form of the NY Waterway: Midtown Ferry, WFC and Pier 11 - Wall St is operational. However, expensive - that's the catch. If people prefer to spend less they must take a bus but NY Buses and shuttles all departs from JSQ Bus Terminals. There isn't really alot of commuters from Downtown JC going to NYC. It only looks like alot when the Path was running because half of the people come from the 'burbs-Newark/Harrison/Morristown etc.

People from the 'burbs and other counties are being bused directly to PA-NY. that's how it's always been for the past 15-20 yrs that i know when there's service disruptions.

I'd be surprised if the Feds will provide buses for Downtown JC to go directly to NYC... it's a long shot but would be nice. But i'm sure the Authorities are going to say, "You have the NY Waterway Ferries going to Midtown, WFC and Wall St. you want hassle free and fast way to get to NYC take the ferry"

My dad was just telling me "back in the day" when the PATH was down they had a very efficient shuttle service. I saw on Twitter today "PANYNJ/PATH neither owns nor operates buses. As such, we do not have the ability to provide bus service."
Then on NJ.com, the federal government is sending about 200 buses to help pick up the slack.

Who knows what's really going on, but agree, it just makes sense to have some sort of shuttle downtown. I'm sure the commuters in JSQ don't want ALL the people downtown who normally take the PATH to crowd their buses.

Re: Buses to Manhattan

Service failure, Port Authority or however you want to put it, my point is there has never been a NJ Transit Bus that pick up commuters from Downtown JC enroute to NYC. Period.

And they will not make arrangements for us priviledged down here. We have the PATH - damaged and still suspended and we have the NY Waterway Ferry - too expensive for some.

You cannot compare Downtown JC with Hoboken's bus routes because Hoboken 's Bus Terminal is down there, in Hoboken. Whereas, Jersey City's Bus Terminals are in JSQ - yes, Downtown Jersey City people included. If you want the same bus routes as Hoboken, you have to live in Hoboken.

Re: Buses to Manhattan

I'm not giving an attitude, it's a matter-of-fact. There seem to be alot of transplants in Downtown JC. People need to understand the NJ Transit Bus won't accomodate certain communities to suit "their" needs. They will make everyone go to the regular destination of JSQ's Bus Terminals for ALL people from different Zones to catch their appropriate transportation. IF there is no access to JSQ or the higherlands from Downtown JC, NJ Transit Bus will then and only then make a detour like your suggestion, for example.

My point was, and remains, that downtown is 1/2 mile from the Holland Tunnel and going to JSQ to transfer to another bus to PA is an option but awfully circuitous if this is a long-term situation.

Re: Buses to Manhattan

Actually JC is doing the same. Catch a bus on Grove in front of the Grove St Path Station to JSQ bus terminal and transfer to a NY-Bus or Community Line Jitney. I know JSQ is not posh like Hoboken or Downtown JC. It won't kill you to go there to catch a NY Bus.

Actually hoboken has buses passing through it constantly. I spent the last 3 days there and bus service is a non-issue. They may be on special routes, but access isn't a problem. I hope JC can do the same.

First off, this has been a very long week. Lost power for days, haven't been at work - PATH down and will remain suspended.

As for trying to get to NYC, when in doubt, catch a bus to JSQ on Grove in front of the Grove St. Path Station. Buses from one of the terminals goes directly to NY-Port Authority. The Community Lines Jitney also goes to NY-Port Authority. Those are your best bets. Hoboken is on a lockdown and not passable for any buses. That city is a mess right now.

Downtown Jersey City is a weird setup. When Irene hit last year my building and street did not get flooded (Paulus Hook) but around the corner it was flooded that peoples basements were flooded. So it all depends where the dip goes. Just remember when Irene hit did your area get flooded - if so, then evacuate. If your building is higher ground, you should be safe but its up to you if you want to leave. With that said, thats the reason why Downtown Jersey City has a "VOLUNTARY EVACAUATION".

Re: Webmaster - Why did you take down the PR parade discussion?
Home away from home
Home away from home

not surprised the webmaster deleted the original thread.

But I am going to repeat what I said about last weeks PR Parade experience at Exchange Pl....

I went out for brunch/lunch not realizing it was the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

I noticed there were a bunch of KIDS loitering in one of the benches at the Iron Monkey. this young lady (she was actually from the neighborhood - found out later) crossed the street the kids got up and ran towards the direction of the young lady crossing on Greene and York Sts, yelling and pumpin their fists like they were about to assault/mug this woman! But of course where are the F'N police?! The area was desolate with mail trucks parked everywhere. THese kids couldn't have been no older than 13! They were young wannabe gangs. Or perhaps they are on their way to becoming one the way they were carrying on and looking tough with their bandanas on their heads.

My friend and I started to walk fast/run to stop a possible assault even ready to dial 911 when the kids saw us. they dispersed in different directions going towards south of Greene St. still talking loud, cursing and talking sh!te what it sounds like morse code more than english.

The woman was shaking, of course I couldn't blame her when u see what it appears like wilding/flash mob approaching you.

In hindsight, there is nothing wrong with ethnic parades but if you're going to have a parade that brings in gangs its time to move elsewhere! Having it around here where people pay in the thousands for rent or mortgage we don't need this sh!te ruining it. So i tell people who plan on moving in the exchange pl , paulus hook area THINK TWICE before you shell out thousands cause it's not worth your wallet! - FYI.

Why couldnt the PR parade move to Liberty State area where one of the ethnic parades are now being held????? more room and these gangs can all go there and do their little gang loitering.

I don't care what anyone say about Greeneville, it's still as dangerous and a bad area. Has an aunt who works in one of the schools there and she tells it like it is. Journal Sq area is a bit better for the money you pay in rent.

Speaking of the Heights, I had a next door neighbor's tenant would do that with his dog, letting it loose to poop and it will always poop in MY DRIVE WAY! I couldn't complain because apparently, he was a cop!

The Heights is not what it use to be when I was a kid. I loathe it now. So many low lives infest the area.
