Ah yes. The FAR more pressing societal issue of saving stray cats. Lol. (for the uninitiated, CAT is an acronym, lol.)

Funny thing is while some are trying to assign the mantle of Robin Hood, "fight the man" superhero to this guy he's probably just a desperate drug addict.

Some cultures accept littering as normal. It's pretty disgusting. Check out these photos from a beach in Puerto Rico.

Whether it's a poor urban teen or a spoiled wealthy suburban teen the end result is you have created an undisciplined, entitled malcontent. For the wealthy punk though Mommy and Daddy are often going to step in and bail them out of a jam. The urban punk isn't going to be so lucky when the cops show up. This ranting woman has a good point. In any case, take a look at the basketball courts in Hamilton Park after a summer weekend. They are trashed and there are garbage cans all over that area. It's nice that volunteers and the city clean it up but every time residents just let it happen you have created a new generation of entitled lazy fools. And for all you people who say things like "she's lucky she didn't get her as kicked" etc. well then you are no better than the fools she was ranting at on Bostwick Ave.

Americans are slobs especially when alcohol is involved. Doesn't matter if it's a street corner in Jersey City or the parking lot after a concert or sporting event. Ever see what Woodstock looked like after the crowds left? And they were enlightened hippies allegedly. I see people complain on this site all the time about trashcans and how few there are. If you cannot carry a Snapple bottle or chip bag a few blocks till you find a can then you are a lazy, useless PoS. Or you're probably drunk.

No they're saying if an area that held a residential building that held 6 people is demolished and can now hold 20, that they should find a way to provide parking for natural increase of cars.

This assumes the people who lived there before had a right to free street parking. But why?

JC has plenty of parking spots in existing parking lots. It doesn't need more lots.

Population density. Before street parking wasn't horrible, but when you start cramming more and more people on the same area it changes the amount of parking needed.

Why fight it? It attracts more people to the area.

Exactly. Some people seem to think that everyone wants to ride a bike, works in Manhattan and are aging backwards. The bigger buildings are required to offer parking but all of them tag an extra fee of $200 or more. So now all those residents are parking on the street and they're getting more and more crowded. The parking in those larger buildings should be free to the residents.

The answer is simple. The new buildings should offer free parking to their residents instead of asking for additional fees of $200 to $300 a month. If there are extra spaces since we have so many car-free people, according to some, then the building can rent those spots.

There was a mention in the NY Times profile that Brown called his parents claiming to have seen a "devil chasing an angel" in a rain cloud. He was at the age where some schizophrenia symptoms begin to emerge. It's really only a theory and not totally far-fetched. In any case, no one on this website knows what really happened but, not unlike sports or politics, people have already chosen their victor in a situation where no one wins.

More delusion. They may not intend to put it to actual use, but that IS what they are doing. Imagine a competitive fishing rod caster saying he's not practicing to fish and it's completely unrelated to fishing.

Yeah, watch out for those deadly biathlon olympic athletes who shoot people, or these dangerous archers putting arrows through your hearts. Are you out of your mind?

I don't believe so. At least I can tell a deadly weapon when I see one, whatever it's being used for at the moment. This does appear to be your problem, telling a weapon designed to kill from a piece of sports equipment that can kill if used improperly, like a bat or golf club. The fact that there are weapon competitions doesn't make the weapons less deadly.

Who doesn't leave their loaded rifle in their golf-bag?

Idea that guns are designed to kill is like an idea that car engine is designed to burn gas.

Not sure what I mean? ok, let me explain. Sure, some car engines do burn gas. However, burning gas is not the purpose. It is not the goal. It is not something that an engine designer aimed to achieve and it is not why most of us use those engines.

How do I know that? The're ways, here is the simplest one: if we thought that a purpose of a car engine is to burn gas, we would have to consider an electrical engine 100% useless.

I am going to leave "what are guns designed for" as a home exercise.

Do you ever take your kids to a pool for swimming? Have you ever wondered how many kids drown each year in this country, - compared to how many people die from the gun-related accidents?

Almost everything that you do can be done in an unsafe way, against common sense and safety rules.

In the end, the reporters and the cameras will be leaving. Michael Brown is still dead and we won't hear much till the trial, if there is one, and the aftermath. The town and the people will still be there. The pundits will milk the people till their usefulness runs out.

Re: Jersey City: Newark Avenue - Pedestrian Plaza

Ultimately the goal should be to make DTJC a not very good option for people who are just "cutting through". Slow down the cars, enforce the traffic laws and make the streets more for locals or people who are here to shop and are not flying through our neighborhoods. The local tunnel entrances should be for us. The Columbus Ave. Exit should be for us to get home from the shore or wherever. Lets make it so that it takes forever to get "through" Jersey City.

Two items from reports that I think we can all dismiss as just plain silly. Firstly, the cop did not have an orbital blow-out fracture. Secondly, do the witnesses really expect us to believe that the cop was trying to pull Brown into the police vehicle? Through the window? Such a silly claim.

You cannot compare one event to another. Police are constantly injured wrestling with suspects and quite often it's more than one cop on the suspect. As evidence is being released it appears that some of the witnesses either lied or didn't see what they thought they saw. Also, a cop is not checking the age of a 6'4" 290LB person who is assaulting or charging them. The robbery video is a separate incident but it shows Brown's state of mind just minutes before his interaction with the cop. Also, it is no simple "shoplifting". It is a robbery suspect who then assaults the victim. You cannot write off Brown's behavior to historical transgressions. It's interesting how many people are giving him a pass on the robbery and downplaying it to "just a few $4.00 cigars" as if that's okay. Lets say we do that though, we say that years of oppressive history shaped Brown's point of view and behavior. Lets say he couldn't help himself. Well, then shouldn't the cop get a pass too. Isn't he also a victim of those same social norms? That's of course if he blatantly shot Brown. In any case, the event has now taken on a life of it's own. People have picked up the mantle and have decided that facts and evidence don't matter as much as the agenda set forth by a chosen few. That agenda may be a good one in the long run but they have used Brown simply as THEIR sacrificial lamb. The cop will be destroyed either way and many people don't give a hoot about that. After all, the cop was immediately guilty in their minds but any speculation about Brown is considered disgusting.

I don't like sitting on PATH but on the rare occasions that I do I will offer my seat to older people, pregnant ladies etc. I do feel a bit weird about offering my seat to women who maybe aren't really old. It's almost like they get offended like you're calling them old.

Sadly, police will often stand idly by while communities riot. They see it as an opportunity to let the angry masses blow off steam. Unfortunately the small business owners are helpless unless they are armed and ready as happened with some businesses during the L.A. riots. In any case, I agree that this was a bad horse to hitch your wagon to and we should let the facts come in.

Here's a link to the NJ Pedestrian Law.

http://www.nj.gov/oag/hts/pedestrian.html

Summary - Be mindful that it's drivers choice to stop if the pedestrian is only waiting and watching on a corner to cross.

Cars it seems are only mandated by law to stop when a person is in the act of crossing the street in a cross walk.

In our case we were halfway across the two-way street and the car nearly hit us. I gave the woman the WTF gesture, she waved without stopping like "sorry, I'm an idiot" and then the cop sprang into action. It was so satisfyingly awesome. Justice served.

They skip areas and only go to certain spots which gets passengers on the bus by avoiding the typical bus stops. Without the skipping the bus would be too compact with riders. It also makes the bus go faster. I am sure if we skip stations and do not pick up passengers, we would see similar benefits.

It will work but again you make it complicated. The train from Marion goes to Journal Square but does not stop as some work trains do not stop. They are on the trains but do not stop, this train does directly to Grove. The next from Harrison do not stop at Marion but goes to Journal Square but does not stop at Grove, it continues on to Pavonia/Newport. Again, you make things complicated. The idea is to allow riders to enter the train because it becomes crowded from Newark, Harrison, Bayonne and the rest of Jersey City. I have seen buses in NYC not stop at regular stops, they are called express buses. NYC does not create extra roads for the express buses. It does not stop on certain blocks. This is the same.

If the buses had to come back the same way they went in then there would be a major traffic jam. That's the rub for the PATH trains plain and simple.
