Are you expecting something bad to happen this November Yvonne?

When is the election to decide this? I tend to agree that the last part of the sentence should be removed and put in the interpretative statement with a countervailing argument on opponents thinking it might make the ballot harder to read.

That being said, I find the choice of lawyer VERY funny and Yvonne may benefit explaining herself here including whether she initiated this or just joined the bandwagon. Btw is Yun, the independent voice on the council also part of this lawsuit? About the ballot expense, I think that LeFric should pay for it. He has been the fat cat benefiting from Chilltown councils and taxpayers for a while.

We can address the budget on another thread, that cocktail is not mixing well tonight obviously.

Imho some of the arguments have merit. I think an election in November with instant runoff as in done on other countries would save taxpayer money. It may also provide interesting outcomes on less politicized figures (independents!) that may be considered as number 2 choice across a wide spectrum of the electorate. It should not be difficult to reprogram the machines to elect choices number one two etc. If not, then I am fine with paper ballots.

Let me repeat it again... What was the increase in ratable during these 3 years? Budget as %ratable comparison would also be nice.

I was wondering too..., they disassembled the cranes more than a week ago. A priori no reasons to keep the street closed. The dirt should take less than a morning to clean.

Re: Bike Share System

I know... I just wanted to point out also that I would have no problem having some of my city taxes going to make sure the system remains viable if they needed help - with accountability if the case.

I can't help but dream of a universal card that one would just need to zap at the pre-elected transportation(s) of one's choosing. These are common in europe. See Navigo pass, works for regional trains, subway, citibike.

Re: Bike Share System

I would argue that bicycles have a easier time going over the PSEG street crap than cars do, which would be an incentive for bike subsidies by the city Anyway, these kind of transportations systems are highly dependent on commercial and public subsidies. As a taxpayer, driver and biker I don't have problem with that.

I wish them good luck, it is already apparent that Grove Street needs more docks!

Re: Bike Share System

I checked the system today and they clearly rotated bikes between liberty light rail/brunswick/hamilton park and grove street/exchange to smooth out pre and post rush hours supply/demand. They are proactive so I would not worry too much about it. I saw people returning bikes and cycling in the street as I was errrr, driving. This is a great start, more stations, as long as the resupply truck can navigate the PSE&G big dig mess!

As of now the system is up and running and people are clearly using it: the bike stations near path and light rail stops have only a few bikes available as in downtown NYC. Citibike will fine tune the supply...

Re: Buying a property with tenants..

From experience, when the property changes hand the new landlord inherits the tenant contract and responsibilities as well as the security deposit. Your lawyer will/should take care of the latter. If your tenants are on a month-to-month due to the fact that their previous lease expired, you can decide to propose a new lease or keep it as month-to-month with the implication that you can adjust the rent anytime on a 30 days-notice. If the previous owner highly recommend the tenants, it may be wise to make sure they stay except if you have work plans in mind for their unit. Nothing better than building trust and stability at first...

Re: Bike Share System

This has and always will be a concern. However it looks like from the experience of cities that adopted bike share that the number of fatalities has not been high as feared. Part of the story is that drivers and pedestrians learn to appreciate each others I guess. So one can project that we should be ok. There are quite a bit of riders already here, and if the JCward tour every year can be used as a measure of growth, we should expect many more! As for riding on the sidewalk I have to admit I try not to do it but there are sections of streets where it feels more secure doing it while not interfering with the pedestrians right of way.

Counted 7 stations in DTJC today: Hamilton Park, Newark Ave, Van Vorst Park, JCMC, City Hall, Washington Street, Essex Station. JCMC was installed overnight, it wasn't there yesterday.
I was so sure they had started in the Heights that I biked over there but couldn't find any. The Port Liberte station that was on the original map is not on the app and I could not find it there either.

+1 . And what is really interesting is the electronic trail here as well... Plus ca change...

So, since these new users are so willing to bring alternatives scenarios here would they be available to provide factual information to any investigation? Put these on the record on Candice fb account for example? Personally I would love to have Judge JerseyMom calling the shot (pun intended) in the end.

I leave this thread for a few pints and the conversation has already shifted to darker motives..., so jclist. Honestly what does occam's razor suggest to you guys? You really think that Wolf would take the risk of lying to cover some garbage issue? Really? The penalty on his business reputation if exposed would be stiff. That he would enjoy to come public on shady activity on the other hand because it is nice to play the good cop and bring business at the same time is perfectly plausible on the other hand. And you know what? I have no problem with that and getting a pint at his establisment in the meantime. Has anyone contacted Candice or Wolf otherwise?

As of now I/we don't know whether the person who tried this shake down and was fired had indeed a contact in the JCBD or whether he was just playing the "fear of God" card. It is worth investigating in any case. I understand a detective was on the case so he/Candice/Wolf might have more info on that topic.

It is really unconscionable for people to attempt this kind of stupidity with the number of recording devices nowadays in private/public places.

As per Wolf Sterling and Candice Osborn fb page the "shake-down" contractor was fired today. The corruption link between city (autonomous) agencies/department is no longer here. People should feel confortable recording and exposing the rooten apples still thinking they can strive here. We are all making it a better city. Have a good night everyone! #jcmakeityours.

Re: Monty's Public House

There was a time White Eagle seemed to progress more slowly than Monty's but it looks like Monty's is the slowest now ;-( I don't know the reasons but I would think that with the high rise explosion around the district it has a good chance of getting a good follow-up if/when it opens. It any, the pedestrian area looks small compared to the incoming density. I would think that Monty's could be monetized very favorably in terms of investor participation.

Battle for the future of LSP keeps ongoing

Thanks for the reference. All the reasons to remain vigilante. Development in LSP would be a casus belli for me and many of my friends. This is our gem. We should learn from Central Park history and remain very active as community.

Re: Fulop open to light and medium development of LSP

I don't see that. The only facts we have are for development OUTSIDE LSP - and I agree that some like the casino are troubling. As for INSIDE, there are no facts as for his intentions within. Just innuendos based on his words or lack thereof. Fulop stated tat he wanted it to remain "pristine" and that the citizenry would be in uproar should the meadowland commission touch this park. Should he even dare to touch it the same situation would happen to him.

Your title accurately refers to heavy, medium and light (proposed) development around LSP at this point. Hard to say whether LSP will not turn into the next central Park. Hopefully we will all be vigilante in keeping it pristine.

Then what are your definitions of "light" and "medium" development? Let's exchange definitions on what are projections at this point. In the meantime Fulop has said he wants LSP to remain a "pristine, passive" park which seems quite clear in definition. But he does not have the power to change any action through zoning since this is state land. So what can he be blamed for?

The article clearly states that Fulop is opposed to heavy development (meaning construction) in Liberty State park and that he wants the place to remain "pristine". It was quite interesting to suddenly see the title of this thread changed to him being "in favor" of "light" or "medium" development of LSP. Is "light" about "community-based activities" ? If yes then I bet that Fulop is for it! Let's have couple more triathlons there! Is "medium" about some kind of restoration of the terminal? Yes Fulop might be for it too!

In the meantime, I can certainly appreciate how Chicago is played here. Very well done. To the admin please consider changing the title to the above.

Re: What is this thing and why has it been on the corner of Coles & Pavonia for months?
Home away from home

I live by the place so I can confirm it was wrapped around Irene. It used to be a signal post and "ran into" some incoming traffic one day. Most people around that cross-street had their fence impacted by traffic in the ol' days. Things seem to be calming right now notwithstanding the motorcycle club that roars around the block from time to time.

We should feel lucky to be still surrounded by artists ready to add some beauty to our existence. That pole was actually lined up with little red hearts that used to move with the wind.

Re: Fulop open to light and medium development of LSP

As per the article Fulop strongly worded opposition to heavy development, meaning construction in LSP. As for concession stands etc that he did not answer and honestly this is debatable. After all, one might argue whether allowing another tavern-on-the-green in the southern part of the park would be considered a desirable amenity. One could also argue whether restoring the track area by the terminal and making it part of some community oriented commercial activity would be acceptable or not. Looking at the way it is falling appart, something needs to be done. We have discussed this as long as the embankment.

So I don't see him selling the land to developers at all and I don't think we can prejudge his intentions on that one. Development of the surroundings is another story. It is pretty clear that the proposed casino is to prop business at the golf course. But the location is ridiculous. This small corner by the Turnpike exit to build a 90 story tower? Com'on, it makes me laugh every time I run buy. The overlook of the nature reserve is indeed another factor - that don't make me laugh.

Re: Fulop to solicit proposals from for-profit companies to replace FOL in running the Loew’s theater

FOL does not have the capacity to renovate and handle the Loews for prime time performances. They are arguing back and forth and trying to get the city to release funds for them. Guess what? The city and taxpayers like me are not for it, certainly for a half-done effort. What the administration has done here is hasta la vista baby after they "won". I have lived in this city for a while already, I did not sell my mansion for handsome profit and I don't live in a tax abated property and I guess I am one of the many who don't have a problem paying $$ for a top performance as compared to $ for very little.
