Whether the young man was carrying or not, the consensus seem to agree that he was a relatively decent kid. This at least suggests that he was unlikely the type to be involved in violent behavior. The real dangerous sorts are not generally lamented quite this way (after being a victim of violence), since people know it goes with the territory. That's not what they're saying about this kid. The more likely scenario is that he was carrying because he was afraid for his life. People get shot for all types of insignificant reasons these days (i.e. a look, playground argument, etc.). It's all conjecture at this point since the only people who know, either aren't talking or can't. Heinous crimes like these only underscore how unsafe EVERYONE really is in this community. Dog run or no dog run. People are kidding themselves if they think otherwise.

He was only 15. The young man should be mourned.

Whatever.

Looks like the guy was carrying, and your speculation that he was carrying because he was afraid for his life is just that - speculation.

More likely he was a gangster apprentice when he went down.

More like it's repugnantly speculative to speak ill of a young man who can no longer speak for himself, especially after others have spoken up on has behalf.

They always say "he was a good kid", don't they?

You are so naive, Mr Wolf.

Almost like you're not Mr Wolf.

Now that I finally realized where the Cliffs is located - it IS a traffic nightmare.

Every time I am tempted to take this road down to Hoboken to buy my groceries - it is jammed.

Say what?

Questioning candidates' association with a separatist and hateful church is stirring up trouble?

Trouble for the candidate, maybe...

Great way to turn the issue on its head.

Obama was associated with a separatist pastor for 20 years, a pastor that clearly hates AmeiKKKa and white people, and that presumably gives him a mandate to improve the race relations in this country.

I hope nobody's buying that spin.

The more I learn about Obama, the scarier the dude looks.

Is he even electable with this baggage?

Re: Barack Obama for President

I think that's exactly how people should be looking at this election: who will give the US the best chance to compete in this rapidly changing world.

EU is circling the wagons, China and India are salivating at eating our lunch, and Russia and oil-rich Arab countries are laughing all the way to the bank.

The dollar is falling, we are looking at Argentina scenario here, folks.

If you think Obama is your man, go right ahead.

I am worried that his liberal economic policies (taxing the "rich", isolationism) will backfire in this situation.

I am definitely for education, though.

For those of you who are young or have young kids - I'd vote for the candidate that you believe will give you and your kids the best chance to compete with our global competitors.

That is a much bigger issue going forward than Iraq or health care.

The foolishness of Wall Street is not the fault of the GOP.

The rise of China and India is not either.

The Iraq war of course is, and so is its huge price tag.

But the Dem president will come with its own huge price tag.

The price tag for Universal Health Care.

The price tag for taxing the business and taxing the "wealthy".

Everyone will make their own choice.

What I am saying is that the choice will not matter.

We are about to get steamrolled, and not by Eliot Spitzer.

You position yourself as whatever will win you a presidency.

Were you born yesterday?

I agree with NewHeights - the GOP (whatever the hell they will present themselves as) will have a much easier time against Obama than against Clinton.

But it really does not matter.

The US is broke and going more broke every single day.

The Democrats want universal health care that they have no money for.

They will save 19 billion a month if they quit Iraq cold turkey. But then Al-Kaida will set up camps there in no time.

Or they can tax the "rich" so they can pay for the universal health care, but that will kill the already moribound economy.

Whether GOP or the Dems rule, you better get ready for your standard of living to start getting closer to that of China or India, the great equilibrators.

Got gold?

We got a hint at this in Michele Obama's comment that with Obama's candidacy "this was the first time in her life she was proud to be an American". It appears that Obama is a stealth candidate for the Sharptons, Farrakhan's and other black radicals.

This is the first presidential "youtube" campaign.

It very well may be decided by viral campaigning.

As for me, if my pastor spewed such hatred, I'd walk out and never returned to his church.

But Obama had two kids baprized by that nutjob - you have to believe that he generally agreed with his views on the American society.

WTF?

His endorsements by both Farrakhan and Wright don't do him any favors with the American public.

Correct.

Do you think Wright made only one such anti-American sermon?

I don't think so.

And I think Obama knew about his pastor's sentiments regarding America. And he attended his church regardless.

I won't go as far as to say that he shared them, but he most certainly knew about them.

All I can tell you is that I just came back from a business trip to Wichita, Kansas, and that the good folks from the Heartland do not take kindly to his pastor saying God Damn America.

Re: Who here really, really hates Comcast?
Home away from home

I really think Verizon is better than Comcast - on all fronts.

I have Verizon DSL and their local phone service.

Sometimes (maybe once a year) my DSL modem hangs up and simple re-setting does not help.

So I call Verizon DSL Tech Support - the wait is usually about five minutes to talk to a tech in Bangalore.

They hand-hold me through the re-booting process, help me establish a new connection and voila! - I am connected again.

Since it only happens relatively infrequently and is taken care of quickly, I don't mind.

But if I had to wait 55 minutes on the phone and get no help, I would blow a frickin fuse.

And what's up with the Comcast radio commercial I heard today on WFAN?

Comcast specifically said they have the most HD channels, period.

More than Directv, more than Verizon, more than anybody.

Directv claims they have 90 HD channels.

What gives?

Is Comcast lying?

I was in my car 10 feet from that crate (in the blue Bimmer) when the explosion occurred.

HOLY SMOKE!

There was a car ahead of me right over the crate - I swear the blast must have lifted the poor guy a few inches off the ground.

I felt as if something massive hit my car's undercarriage, but it was just an air blast.

I got out of there as fast as I could.

I thought it must have been a transformer that blew.

Ever since there was a thread here about the best burger in JC and I tried the first and second choices in the thread, I stopped paying attention to food reviews on jclist.

A goodly number of people recommended the #1 and #2 burger establishments.

#1 burger sucked in a major way, and #2 made me sick.

So much for jclist food connoiseurs (most of them have gone to the other list, anyway).

Michelle Obama worries me a bit.

Did anyone catch her clip yesterday declaring with wide eyes and revolutionary zeal that "today is the first day I was proud to be an American"?

I became an American in 1986, the first year I was eligible, and have been proud to be an American every single day.

I guess I am not on the same page with Michelle, although I do not exclude the possibility of voting for Barack (it won't matter in New Jersey, anyway).

I've been getting my Italian food from their Bayonne location for about 20 years - never a disappointment, either in food nor in service.

One complaint I have is that by Saturday their seafood salad is all celery and no seafood.

They make it fresh on Friday, and for the Friday customers it is "seafood-enriched", but on Saturday I just don't buy it because I don't feel like paying $8/lb for chopped leftover celery.

I recall that Tania's had a steady clientele of cops and construction workers looking for an inexpensive, tasty, and nutritious meal.

But with the area's high rents, it will be tough going trying to keep the prices low for that type of demographics.

Bolew is right, yuppies are not looking for Polish food.
