Yeah, because the only good people in this city live downtown. ignoramus.

Also, Lord knows McCann has done some dirt in this town and this job at the Incinerator Authority reaks of patronage, but the fact that he is an ex-con is not reason enough to deny him or any other ex-offender the opportunity to make a living. Understand me, I'm not saying that McCann should work at the Incinerator Authority or hold elected office. But if someone (anyone) has served their time, they shouldn't be denied work.

Really??? You find it curious why a park is busier when the weather is nice? I wouldn't know, as I dont frequent parks in the middle of winter. Based on your post one would assume that in the middle of winter the park is chock full of kids. I am a dog owner and I do let my dog run at Morris, it is a great place to do so. That said I only do so when the park is relatively empty early am or late afternoon.

Really!!! You only let your dog run when the park is "relatively empty early in the am or late afternoon" So your saying it's okay to break the law at those times, or that the people that are there at that time dont mind your dog?
There are so many things wrong with your statement but I'm just going to keep it simple and say that you are just palin 'ol WRONG!
There are leash laws in Jersey City early in the morning and later in the afternoon.

ITA. The entitlement and lack of consideration of these dog owners simply amazes me. Like I said before, I know not all dog owners do this but there are many many people who let their dogs run wild, crapping and pissing everywhere.

There is a dog run in Van Vorst. Take your dog there.

I think we should all start calling the police when we see unleashed dogs here. I'm going to program the JC police number in my cell. I'm not even going to warn them ahead of time. Think about all the money JC can make if they just have a cop there writing out tickets.

Let me just clarify. I probably should have specified _downtown_ JC, and that I was _unimpressed_. As in, when I'm looking for a bite within walking distance, it's tough to come up with something that's better than just decent.

I was very disappointed with It's Greek To Me. I ordered from there a couple off times. SO OVERPRICED!! I stopped ordering after that. I felt their name even mocked me!

Be adventurous! Try The Heights! There are some wonderful Latin restaurants up there. Go to Union City!

You are only bored if you become complacent with your surroundings.

Makes sense since they are grossly overpriced.

+1

I ate there once, told them it was ridiculously overpriced for a tiny gyro and never went back. I was exposed young to gyros in Astoria: huge tangy piles of meat with lots of thick tzatziki, none of this water thin crap you find everywhere. The best I've found in JC so far is the gyro place over in front of the Lowes, decent meat and veggies but the tzatziki is watered as usual.

I can't believe the thread has gotten this far with no mention of 15 Fox Place. A 3 hour ~$65 prix fix italian meal with more courses than I could count and BYOB in a house divided into dining rooms seating 4 to a dozen or more. A unique JC treasure.

ahh Portland Maine! definitely my favorite food town in the US! You aren't going to find a better food setup anywhere in the country! I think JC has a very diverse group of restaurants. But, definitely take advantage of your close proximity to NYC where you can find a wide array of restaurants!!!

I don't know too much about McCann other than what was said on this board, so I had a negative opinion of him. But the other day I watched that clip and he seemed most aware of whats going on there.

Sure he does, because nobody - NOBODY - not the other candidates, other board members, the "media" as Mia likes to fashion herself, ever questions him.

Mia says: "It's been repeatedly mentioned that over 1,100 teachers have no classroom assignments". Yes, it's been said repeatedly by McCann. Does anyone ever stop, just for a second to think what that would mean? 1,100 teachers - what is that, a half of all teachers? A third? For reference, at any point in time, the NYC public schools - a district more than 30 times the size of ours - has 600 to 700 unassigned teachers in its "rubber room" as reported last week on WNYC.

Similar with the pulled-out-of-his-hat "373 teachers will be laid off" if the contract is ratified. Please, take 30 seconds to think about how does one arrive at such precision, what would be involved, whether or not individual teachers are already identified for layoff (which would be necessary to speak with such precision) and you quickly realize that, yet again, the man is lying.

You've always struck me as better than this, Mia. How do you buy into a lieing convict with a 30 year history of contorting his rhetoric to fit the prevailing wind? I know, I know - I wasn't here way back when and don't have all the backstory. You know what, I'm becoming convinced that is a good thing. The people who aren't skewed by the warped events of the past here probably can better see things for what they are in many cases.

I currently live in a Pronti building and I am having the same experience. My wife and I cannot wait to get out of here. It took them 3 months to fix a roof leak, and then another 2 to fix the water damage it caused inside. This is an older building that they refurbished, so it's pretty sturdy, but I can't imagine living in a building where they are responsible for the whole thing. YIKES. Also, the Pronti "management" company is a joke. We've had nothing but bad experiences.

And yeah, this has transplant NYers all over it.

I think anyone endorsing Gerald McCann should be suspect. How could you recommend a multiple offender criminal as a leadership position for a school board? The general claim is that he will protect us from higher taxes. This man was convicted of tax fraud! Hello! The fact that anyone that has endorsed him including Mia Scanga, Terry DeHure, and Hiral Patel is bad. THE WORST IS THAT JERSEY CITY POLICE OFFICER SEAN CONNERS HAS ENDORSED HIM IN THIS LETTER:

The Hudson Reporter

How can a police officer recommend someone to a school board who was sentenced to over two years in prison for fraud. In 1995 he was convicted of drunk driving. Judge John C. Lifland of Federal District Court ruled that Mr. McCann had also violated the terms of his supervised release program by drinking excessively. He publicly threatened the prosecutor in court. These are not secrets but all part of public record . . . any endorsor of this candidate either has been promised something or is delusional.

What suprises, and distresses, me most Mia, is that you claim to be a respected journalist. Respected journalists fact check their information. You, however, are quoting information, facts & figures, that have been reported by Gerry McCann...and not any other legitimate source. Has anyone, besides McCann, mentioned that 373 number? In reality, that does not take into account retirements, which in some years have been close to 200. Has anyone besides McCann mentioned the 4% raise...because in reality, that's across the board. Not every teacher was getting a 4% raise every year. Has anyone besides McCann said teachers are not taking a pay freeze? Because in reality,we've been in a pay freeze since September and will continue to be so indefinitely since WE HAVE NO CONTRACT.

You claim that Waterman & Lester are suspect simply because they earn the support of teachers, or of the JCEA. I see no "endorsement" on the JCEA website..they don't seem to be endorsing anyone officially. Also, you're as bad as the rest if you're willing to eliminate a candidate simply because they share a view opposite of yours. Do you work in education? Do you have an educational administrative license? Because you claim cutting JC's administration won't be enough to close the budget cap, yet Carol Lester (who headed a charter school), Gerald Lyons and June Mulqueen (who work in a school), Angel Valentin (who is an incumbent and has looked at board figures for 3 years not) all say that it will. I guess you know more than all of them.

Stop pretending you are a respected journalist..you are a political activist fighting for the candidates and platforms you believe in. There's nothing wrong with that, but call it like it is. Journalists don't follow a party line...they report FACTS, not opinions.

We did the Hibachi thing as we brought our teenage nephews who are not down with sushi yet. The hibachi was standard hibach which is good. Good size sushi bar and the lounge area seems cool. To me it is a great addition to JC, combines restaurant lounge area and should attract all types. I live around the corner and am thrilled that they are finally open

This ordinance represents a simple but significant change for the residents in Ward E. When passed, residents would be able to apply and pick up parking zone permits directly at city hall. Thanks so much Erica. Yes There is absolutely no reason JC cant have fun/eclectic, creative restaurants. Proximity to Manhattan should not be used as a crutch in the excuse of " Oh but NYC is so close". Countless neighborhoods in the boroughs have great little places and in a lot of parts of Brooklyn for instance you dont even need to go into the city for great food. Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill neighborhoods all come to mind.

Thank You DragonXJC

It seems to me more often than no that some Downtowners are so Downtown exclusive and dont know much about the rest of JC. There is a lot outside of Downtown, maybe not to the specific tastes of some like chic type of stuff. Get out, explore a little. Im from Sunset Park/Park Slope originally and had no qualms about going to Downtown Brooklyn, Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, etc for a cool restaurant as many brooklyners do.
