Re: NJ Transit commuters could get another train option

Home away from home

So he pisses away the biggest public transportation improvement, not to mention job stimulus, in the state's history.

And it came out today as well that his pissing away of $400 million education funding was because he was afraid of right wing talk radio hosts.

Worst. Governor. Ever.

The flamingo is the stereo-typical downtown diner that should never change (except the food from time to time) - its what a diner is all about......a place your parents went to and a place you take your kids to !

I hope the renovations is more a painting and cleaning update with only an improvement to the kitchen (prep area)and bathroom to meet health standards.

I called the mayor's office twice and asked about this. Spoke with either a secretary or assistant who said she would call me back. Nobody has so far. Tomorrow is a furlough day, Monday is Columbus Day, so I'm sure my inquiry will be conveniently forgotten over the 4-day weekend.

I cut down two Elm trees over the summer and have it stacked in the woods behind my house. I can drop off as much as you need. Start with very small cool fires to season the chiminea. Dont do what I did and try yo turn the thing into a blast furnace/ incinerator for an old deck I took down. they crack lol.

No don't get me wrong, Christie is a piece of sh#t but he may havbe stumbled on the right call here.

If one cannot get from NJ into Manhattan to work perhaps work can come to NJ?

My point is that often wasting money on junk is wasting money on junk. My OTHER point is that the United States is bankrupt.

No question NJ is financially jeopardized these days, but this decision is pretty shortsighted. It's a nightmare getting in and out of Manhattan from NJ and sooner of later this situation needs to be improved. Do you really think Christie is going to funnel money to projects that provide a better return on investment? As always, Christie is good on spending cuts but refuses to raise revenue by taxing upper income earners...

Maybe PATH could dig into its immense coffers and pay for a new tunnel tube. Yeah right!
(THat's my hysterically funny joke for the day!)

The United States cannot afford to build tunnels...it prefers to waste it's capital fighting endless wars instead to support its failing corporat power.

I am a progressive but I support Christie's call here. SOMEBODY must watch the checking account balance, whether it comes to tunnels under the Hudson or saving piles of rocks in Jersey City.

Throwing money at rich developers to do substandard work has gone on for far too long.

The United States cannot any longer afford to support its failing infrastructure. Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia are just too pricey and if not fought, Exxon-Mobil and ROyal Dutch Shell, Halliburton and BLackwayer will have a few bad quarters.

State of the Union messages, State of the State messages have no meaning (remember Bush was going to Mars.) State of the City messages are beyond the pale meaniningless.
Those mayors who avoid them seem to be imbued with more common sense than most.

A chicken in every pot made some sense during the depression; "hope for change" sounds as stupid in 2010 as it did in 2008.

"Don't talk of love, SHOW me"...Julie Andrews said it best.

So NO state of the anything speech seems a good idea to me.

Velazquez on the Council

Healy has appoined and the Council has aproved 8-0 to appoint Ray Velazquez, and openly gay judge to take the seat on the council vacated by the removal of Marianno Vega becasue of his felony conviction.

Hooray! I hope Velazquez is a good man, but FINALLY having a gay man on the council (closets don't count) is a sign that Jersey City has entered the Twentieth Century. (Century choice is NOT a typo!)

Not by much but the path, or h&m railroad, predates nyc subways, but that's besides the point because we were comparing it to the dc metro built much later. And most of the path trains are 30 years older than current mta trains, that may account for your bumpy ride. Excuse my 'historical ignorance' I was just assuming that engineeing practices got better with time.

That was my old Washington Mutual bank. I saw them a few weeks ago moving pinball and such OUT rather that in. They now have a "stop work" order on the door. The way this city works, do not plan on seeing this place open for 3 years. Not that I am into such things but inspect this inspect that etc.

Yeah, and Guiliani was the best mayor NYC ever had Pangloss.

If the PATH were interested in safety, the trains wouldn't throw people around like ragdolls. Ride on the DC Metro, for instance, and let me know when you get tossed. Never happens.

It's nice that they clean out the crap at point A or Z, but those of us riding in the middle get sticky feet, yesterday's news, today's vomit, and the ever-fun game of "kick the can."

I'd much rather the cars were COATED in graffitto and ran more often then wasting time taking tagged cars out of commission.

As for cheap, it's about half the cost of driving, which, if timed right, is a much more pleasant experience than the PATH ever is.

uh the path was built like 70 years before the DC metro, of course it won't be as smooth. the path is already cleaner, cheaper, and more pleasant than the MTA like many others have said in this thread and that's good enough for me. if i go to work from my girlfriend's place in brooklyn there's a delay almost every time and i'm late by at least ten minutes. on the path i haven't been late due to a delay in months.

Not that either of our anecdotes are worth anything, but I ride the PATH and the L daily on roughly equivalent trips, and the L is ALWAYS on time, a much smoother ride, and a much cleaner and more pleasant experience overall.

As for the PATH being bumpy due to age, you do realize that the LEVEL has existed for thousands of years, and that buildings have been constructed to not topple over since at least the pyramids. Furthermore, the NYC Subway, which as far as I know predates the PATH, is pretty jostle-free comparatively. I don't know why the PATH has such a bumpy ride, but to blame it on it being a a hundred years old is proof of historical ignorance.

Obviously, lard isn't vegetarian. Spider is correct though because I have tried to order other items and they've informed me what is and isn't veg. If you ask them they will tell you what is made without lard.

So you propose they stop the trains mid-trip to clean them? Wouldn't that just create more delays? Also, it is the passengers that cause this mess.....not the Port Authority employees.

If you want people to respect the cleanliness of the trains, the trains should look respectable. Despite the amount of grime you already deal with inside the cars, imagine how much worse it would be if the trains looked just like trash cans on the outside.

Just saying.

Reading comprehension not your strong suit, eh? I never said that trains should be taken out of commission - I made the point that a clean car at Newark doesn't do much good for those of us at Harrison, JSQ, Grove, Newport, 9th, 14th, 23rd, or 33rd. Somebody else said that trains ARE taken out of commission for graffito.

BTW - Is Kurt Vonnegut only PRETENDING to be a rotting skeleton?
