Re: Woman shot outside Gerry Meyers fundraiser (Ward B candidate) yesterday

"First and foremost, I visited the victim in hospital. She is a stable condition and my thoughts are with her and her family. I've spoken with the chief of police and we are committed to conduct a thorough investigation until those responsible for this senseless act are brought to justice to face the full extent of the law. Secondly, this is an unfortunate example of the senseless violence that occurs when the intentional mass production of handguns and the reckless distribution of such weapons winds up in the hands of persons whose only intent is to commit crime."

Its only a matter of time before Healy blames this on Fulop and "the Republicans" adding its another blatant attempt by Fulop to "Suppress the Vote"

Who is Fulops team? When you are attempting to take over a major city, which Jersey City clearly is in terms of NJ. Who are the people that he has picked to run the city's departments. Doesn't the public have the right to know?

Or is he allowed to hide it and slide his patronage in after he gets elected?

I find your observations pretty remarkable... considering many of the Healy Administration's people or department's have been under investigation, some convicted of crimes against the citizens of this city. You maybe correct, perhaps there is a Fulop bias on some of these threads, but JC List does not prevent you from creating your own ProHealy Thread, if you can find something good to say and stop bashing Fulop on this thread. You just joined this forum last night and your message reads like the original list of smears, lies and desperation from the Healy campaign playbook. According to you, the typical Healy voter may not use the internet / JC List (hard to believe) for information, but hopefully they read the Star Ledger and Jersey Journal, both supporting Fulop and his progressive platform for the city. Let's move forward Tuesday with Fulop!

Used to have respect for this Levin but joining the Healy ticket just negates everything he has ever said or done for Jersey City. If Healy survives this election, does Levin really think that this city will see positive change as he envisions? Look how the machine has blocked Fulop for so many years... they will cast him aside like yesterday's paper and go back to business as usual. Levin's one vote will not make a difference.

I am starting to get suspicious about this whole photo flap... Why would Healy dredge this story back up 2 weeks before the election? It is not one of his better moments as Mayor or in his personal life. The pro / anti incumbent vote is a lock... so that leaves undecided? Do not know what the % is but he must have some research that says corruption thing will hurt and this naked story will knock that story off the news... The % vote will look at this story as another "old fashion sex scandal"??? and write it off?

uh oh.... think the 3 mysterious Hispanic girls who Healy said tore his towel off just came out of hiding 10 years later in Cleveland... I would have been gone into hiding too if I saw him in the buff, drunk at 2:00am.

Now this was a joke! It is wonderful news in Cleveland!!!!

The photo is on JCLIST threads unedited... if you remember that election itself was a scandal with the photo and convicted or future convicted criminals all running. As an interloper 9 months new to Jersey City, that election was about temporarily replacing the recently passed away Mayor Cunningham for 6 months till the general fall election, of course whoever won, became defacto incumbent. I remember seeing that photo on the windshield of every car in my neighborhood while I walked to the poll. Thought at the time that the election was wasted of money/time with the general just 6 months away. Healy won it too??? That was my welcome to Hudson County politics.

The only thing that saved the Mayor in that sweep was the fact that Jon Corzine was running the state and Eric Holder was running the Department of Justice. Healy came out as an original Obama supporter in the first election. Risky move going against Clinton machine but it paid off.... I am not going to go into how inept (corrupt??) the DOJ is but the fact is Holder let Corzine walk away free after he and his cronies looted MF Global and they both made sure their guy Healy walked away "vetted" to keep The Hudson County Machine in place.

Some people are missing point. Outside the connecfion to another democrat 1%er tax dead beat who got out of one $6million lien and now owes another $11million (see J Corrizine, W Buffet, Mark Rich, C Rangell) It is illegal for American citizens to go overseas for the purpose of having sex with children no matter if prostitution is legal or not (see L Taylor) of course Congress people seem to think they are above the laws they impose on US citizens. The media coverup is because Sen BM is a major sponsor with McCain to make illegals legal and nobody want upset that agenda with a child sex abuse scandal.

So maybe the ABC news and the FBI got the senator's activities with underage 16 year old girls in the DR confused with the illegal immigrant sex offender that was discovered on his staff last summer.... both stories were squelched by justice department until after his reelection.

Re: Port Liberte - Jersey City

Chapel Ave runs from Caven Point Rd to past Point Liberte Ferry ending at Point Liberty Resurant. All that area is public; the housing areas are posted private access with security gaurds patrols. At about halfway point is a steel bridge that crosses canal. There is a staircase that will take you down to a Public Walkway along canal, used by runners, bike riders, walkers/dogs. This walkway will go along the canal out to NY Harbor, it bears left heading north along the harbor. Following posted signs and it will take you thru the wetlands (safe boardwalk area) to the back of Liberty National which eventually leads to LPS main drive, Black Tom entry. This runs around the LPS waterfront, past Ellis Island to Old Train Terminal, Liberty House, Liberty Harbor Marina (Audrey Zapp Drive) and it could take you out to Jersey Ave by JCMC. About 6 miles... a nice ride, I hear lots of storm damage in areas. Have Fun!

I have walked that stop walking over to Winner's Resturant Race Book... neighborhood looks rough, but never had a problem... I cross 440 away from lights and intersection, usually have time to cross to median or across both lanes when the lights are red. Found intersection worse cause you dont know whats red/green.

I know the woman, she is very nice, small in stature, her dog is old... my understanding is she was walking by this couple and the man was verbally abusing the wife in front of the young boy. It sounded to me like she was in the wrong place/wrong time and the verbal abuse escalated to physical assault on passerby... not sure what words were exchanged but the man was already out of control with his wife when he attacked the my friend.

See my review of The Surf, but also include bad frozen pina coldas.... maybe the guy at the frozen drink stand Sunday afternoon didn't know how make them, but ours tasted mainly of syrup and were watery, certainly not worth the $10 per charge or the calories. Those were the easy ones on the menu. But it is still a great location and worth a trip over.

They did a nice job on the space which will require up keep and the view is great... have been there a few times at various hours since it opened. Most of the time the bar service was bad, seems like when you find a good bartender she's great but the bad ones lean on the cooler eating goldfish not seeing people with empty glasses; have no idea what brand of spiced rums they serve, after taking the customer order 3 times and returning saying we don't have that rum; or pour tap beer ignoring customers trying to get thier attention. All about professional experience, but it would be the same service at most Jersey Shore bars this size. They do serve a decently priced burger, but beware the lobster rool, priced nicely is not a traditional lobster roll, it mixed with a fruit/vegatable salsa, our group ordered one and no one offered to finish it... someone in group also offered idea of misters being available?

What can you say... I like Christie and who's going to knock a 911 memorial even if it is ugly, the article was stupid... the photos were tight up close or far away with an implied mention, that they overan the original budget and went to the state for more money to bring it to the condtion it is today... incomplete from concept and ugly besides.

This could be the ultimate memorial to taxpayer wasted dollars and out of control government spending.... Hey I have another great idea, lets build another tunnel and put the NJ taxpayers on the hook for the cost overruns in that shovel ready project... statue money would have been better spent on NJ First Responders.

Another random thought... we could be looking at the world's first "naturally green" and largest convection oven! After the hot days we had this summer, can you imagine how hot it will be inside that thing???

Can't wait to bake my potatoes in it.... could even start to pop corn for the Elllis Island SOL tourists to take on the boat. .

Actually from the hiding something point if view??? Maybe someone is trying to put the trees there to hide it ... but eventually when they do grow big enough, the memorial commitee will chop them down because they are impeding the natural light reflecting off the monument...

I think, outside of landscaping, they have completed this "memorial" It appears that there is no plan cover the the the exterior of the two horizontal cement slabs... unless they plant tall bushes it looks unfinished... there are stainless steel panels with the names of the victims inscribed on the inside/ between the slabs... I thought they were going to cover the exterior with the same types of panels, guess not so the viewing perspective from most angles are two cement slabs buried into a mountain of dirt... looks very cheap and cheesy and if you have to explain the symbolism of the design to explain the memorial, seems like it was over thought??? Hard to believe this was the best they could do??

This"heart rendering" story had tears rolling down my cheeks... and my sides hurt from laughing so much. I almost fell out of my chair laughing harder because each quote was more funny than the previous one.... where do you start???

The writer Conte ??? The public officials visiting the family of the "dearly departed" ??? I saw a photo of the weapon the "victim" was carrying around his neck... obviously using it for self protection.

With all due respect to the law abidding residents in that neighborhood, the logical response to the family / friends comments would be to remove all police presence to avoid other familes from being victimized by the police.

Family of man slain by Jersey City cop during Saturday incident question official account
Home away from home
Home away from home

Published: Tuesday, August 02, 2011, 3:00 AM
By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal

Family members of the man killed by a Jersey City police officer on Saturday said yesterday the felon would never have pointed a gun at a cop and they want to see any evidence that proves otherwise.

?Let?s just get the truth,? said Tyra Henry, the cousin of Deron Kittrell, 28, of Wade Street, who was killed at 2 a.m. by Officer Louis Mecka at Monticello Avenue near Brinkerhoff Street. ?If we could have the truth, we could bow out.?

Kittrell?s uncle, Rob Henry, said, ?My nephew was no angel, but my nephew was not crazy enough to pull a gun on an officer.?

Mecka responded on a call of shots being fired on Martin Luther King Drive near Clinton Avenue at 1:54 a.m. and saw Kittrell walking with a gun in his hand, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

The officer got out of his vehicle with his K-9 partner Froto and chased Kittrell when he refused to stop and started running, DeFazio said.

During the chase, Kittrell pointed the gun at Mecka and Froto and Mecka opened fire, DeFazio said, adding that the preliminary investigation has found the shooting justified.

Police recovered the Masterpiece Arms 9mm pistol with a 30-round clip at the scene, DeFazio said, adding the gun had no bullets but had been fired recently.

The gun manufacturer said the weapon can fire 30 rounds as fast as the shooter can pull the trigger and costs $450 to $490.

Mecca has been taken off-duty and is being provided counseling, officials said.

Kittrell was in state prison from June 6, 2003 to March 16, 2005 for a firearm offense and two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute near a school, according to corrections records.

Tyra Henry said yesterday she never thought her cousin would die by the hands of a police officer.

?It hurts,? she said, standing beside grieving friends and family members at a memorial to Kittrell near his mother?s Johnston Avenue home.

?I never thought it would be by the cops. He was shot in a robbery before and drove himself to the hospital. The cops, they are supposed to be here to serve and protect.?

Assemblyman Charles Mainor and state Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham visited Kittrell?s grieving mother Sunday.

?I did go over to the mother?s house, not to take sides but to console a mother who lost her child,? Mainor said yesterday. ?We prayed, myself and Sen. Cunningham, and just consoled the mother.?

Mainor, a Jersey City police detective, visited Mecka yesterday.

Jersey City Councilwoman Viola Richardson and Hudson County Freeholder Jeffrey Dublin also visited Kittrell?s mother.

Last September, Mecka also fired his weapon in the line of duty.

At 3:14 a.m. on Sept. 12, he and Froto came upon three people shooting at each other at Martin Luther King Drive and Communipaw Avenue, reports said. When one man pointed a gun at Mecka, the officer fired two rounds at him, but missed, reports said.

Assisted by Froto, Mecka arrested the three Jersey City felons charged in the incident. Mecka?s use of force in that incident was found to be justified, DeFazio said yesterday.

Cop?s three bullets removed from Kittrell's body

A 28-year-old Jersey City man died as a result of being shot three times by Jersey City Police Officer Louis Mecka on Saturday, and the medical examiner also found a bullet in his body from a prior shooting, officials said yesterday.

Deron Kittrell was shot twice in the upper left arm and once in the upper left chest by the officer early Saturday morning on Monticello Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said yesterday based on the preliminary autopsy report.

The prosecutor said Kittrell was carrying a gun and was apparently intoxicated when he ran from the officer and his K-9 partner Froto. DeFazio said Mecka shot Kittrell when Kittrell pointed the gun at the police officer and Froto.?

?During the autopsy performed at the state Regional Medical Examiner?s Office in Newark on Saturday, the bullet from a previous shooting was removed from Kittrell?s body, DeFazio said.

Kittrell?s cousin and his girlfriend told The Jersey Journal yesterday that Kittrell had been shot during a robbery against him and DeFazio confirmed that information.
