Re: Downtown: Having taken out huge second loan at height, couple now owes more than it's worth.

Charter schools do not cost the taxpayers any additional money. If anything, the residents of JC do not pay their fair share of taxes for their schools since the majority of the money that is spent is coming from the Abbott state financial aid.

Yikes. I read that blog on JC Independant and it made me feel icky. Way to publicly throw your husband under the bus. Ouch.

Please. Let's take a minute to think about the places that spawned famous cupcakeries and think about the people in those places.

Sprinkles, Los Angelos
Magnolia, West Village
Carlo's Bakery, Hoboken

Like I said, Worst People On Earth.

Carlos is not a cupcake store. They are an Italian bakery. They have been around for years, back when Hoboken was a "rough neighborhood."

I wouldn't love it if our public schools took money from Spectra but I have no problem with a Catholic or private school taking money. They are struggling as it is and I think the point that unless you give money yourself to these schools or are a current family member, you have nothing to complain about.

Re: Taqueria

Home away from home

Both of them are a little over the top imo but a person is allowed to have their own opinion. And perhaps Taqueria's behavior is indicative of why some people really really hate them? All I have to say is, the guy needs to show a little humility, even if it's just an act. I've seen some abrupt behavior in the past at the restaurant, but I haven't been so offended that I would never go back. However, his postings on this board are really really offensive. Again, someone on this list called his kid a name, and he reacted by throwing all of his customers under the bus. That's low class if you ask me.

And btw, sometimes people log into JClist on whatever their device is, iphone, ipad, computer, laptop, and then walk away without closing their window so it looks like they are still browsing the thread. I know I've done it.

Re: Swimming for dogs?

The whole park is overrun by unleashed dogs. I honestly do not feel sorry for the dogs and their owners. If you are at the park, there are tons of people who are too busy chit chatting to notice that their dogs are pooping in the grass. I've pointed out to owners countless times that while they were yimmer yammering with their friends, their unleashed dogs took a dump.

Re: Taqueria

CatDog said that he was kidding and it was a response to another poster, so no one called the baby a douchebag.

I personally don't want to see Taqueria DT go, like I said, we go there often and like the food. However, Taqueria's post really left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). Your response to a slight from one poster who called your child a name turned into you completely trashing the city where you operate your business and the customers who patron your business.

So the JC residents who put money in your pockets are "low class"? You do realize that the people who go to your restaurant are not the ones who called out your baby, nor flaming your restuarant? This really makes me sad that you feel that way and I have to say, makes me uncomfortable going back. I'm sure I will go again sometime, because my kids ask for it and I like to make my kids happy. Honestly, I'd like to see an actual apology for what you said. I guess you "took it back" but you really didn't say "Hey, I said a crappy thing, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to say my customers are low class."

There are jerks who will hate you in any city. A few years ago, a bunch of moms boycotted a restaurant in Park Slope bc they banned strollers. Their business was affected enough and they realized they pissed off their customers so much that they lifted the ban. All I have to say is, it doesn't take much to piss off your customers to the point where they just won't come back. And it doesn't take much for a businesss to just admit that they are wrong to make their customers happy.

Ian, as I said from my last post, we go there a lot. Their service has improved immensely. Not sure if it's bc they have children of their own, or if they were too busy opening up their other shop.

And also, I did mistakenly call you out and and I apologized. It was obvious that I didn't mean you, when your post had nothing to do with calling a baby a d-bag.

Re: Taqueria

CatDog, it's really a-hole of you to call a little baby names. WTF did that baby do to you? What kind of a piece of crap are you to ridicule a child just because you don't like the owners of a restaurant? Call them whatever you want, it's out of line to bring their child into your rant.

And to Taqueria, my family is at your establishment a lot. At least every other week we either have lunch there during the week or on the weekend. My kids love eating there and I know that when we are at Taqueria, they'll eat everything that's on their plate. It is disheartening to see your disdain towards your customers...is this how you feel about us? So you are just going to shut down your restaurant in JC and piss on your loyal customers, who by the way, probably helped you open a restaurant in NYC in the first place? Wow.

The two of youu need a time out and think about the tantrums both you threw on this board. Seriously. And while CatDog is just being a d-bag poster on an anonymous board, Taqueria needs to think about what they say about their customers before they post it on the internet for all to see. Are you going to hang this exchange up on your wall too?

Edited: Ooops, I called out the wrong person, sorry Ian!

Re: Renter Beware

We had a landlord in Hoboken that gave us a crazy laundry list of things that had to be cleaned etc before we moved out. It said we had to clean the inside AND outside of the windows and under the fridge etc. I called a friend of mine who was a tenant lawyer in NYC and he wrote a letter for me as a favor and they backed off completely. Not sure if you have any lawyer friends who can help you out like this but it certainly helped. The letter said something like "the apartment will be returned in broom clean condition with normal wear and tear" etc.

That happens at least once or twice a month. A couple of years ago they paved the road and lots of trucks got stuck bc they thought they would clear the bridge but the new road added a few inches. At least this is what was told to me when I flagged down a cop telling him that a truck was stuck.

Heights has a point. I wouldn't like to buy in a building that's has a lot of people who are not invested in the community and would treat my building like a hotel, not a "home". That sounds really depressing to me. Why would I want neighbors like that? I would rather see the same faces all of the time and get to know my neighbors. I would assume these buyers are just buying to be close to the city and could give two craps about Jersey City. I am sure if they are asked, they say they have a place "in the city".

I don't see how she could even plead "not guilty". They told her to get rid of the dogs and she didn't. What a joke.

And the sad thing is, she supposedly got the dogs for her child who has autism. So now she is facing jail time and the kid will have no dogs and possibly no mom if she is sent to jail for 18 months!

Kennedy Boulevard near the transit hub Journal Square has been closed as Jersey City police, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police and the Jersey City Fire Department have responded to what initial reports are calling a suspicious package.

The swell of activity is on the southbound side of Kennedy Boulevard at the overpass that is opposite the taxi stand. That is directly above train tracks. All the sidewalks are closed in the area as well.

As for the roads, Kennedy Boulevard is closed from Cottage Street to the intersection of Bergen Avenue and Sip Avenue.

Yes but you are the one, pathh8ter, who said that pedestrians always have the right of way, and that they should not have the onus to "cross correctly". When I presented my scenario where the pedestrians are clearly in the wrong, you post a snarky comment about crossing blindfolded and backwards. when I post a snarky comment back you jumped on my lack of "civility" and throw in a comment about your kid and how you want to know my car so you can avoid me so that I won't run the two of you down or some garbage like that. There are many, MANY instances when pedestrians are just plain wrong, and dumb, and stupid.

People need to stop and look both ways before they cross the street. Period.

Like I said, I stop for pedestrians at crosswalks. I shouldn't have to slam on my brake for someone who wasn't even on the curb when I am approaching the crosswalk, who decides to run into traffic because they are stupid or have a deathwish.

And btw, I have kids too. I stop at the curb and look both ways before I cross the street. I do not think that my stroller is a device to stop oncoming traffic. I don't cross unless I have a light and even then I stop at the curb and I make sure that it's safe before I cross the street. I also never enter the crosswalk until I know that I can actually cross the street.

To assume that drivers are always the discourteous ones in this city 100% of the time is ridiculous. Have you seen some of the people in this city walking around like they don't give a crap if a car is coming or not? Walking against lights? In the middle of the street? I stop for buses, I stop for pedestrians, I stop for a family of geese! I never "block the box" and I drive the speed limit. I am a courteous driver and a safe pedestrian.

I will admit that there are a lot of crap drivers out there too, but just as there are a lot of crap drivers, there are a lot of crap pedestrians.

I've been almost hit 3 times and can't count the near misses on many other occasions in the past ten years living here. And all I've done is try to cross the street, carefully, at a pedestrian crosswalk.

Other cities are well trained in the civility of letting a pedestrian cross. It's the law. Why are we different?

It doesn't matter if it takes you 10 more minutes to get to work letting a dozen pedestrians at a dozen crosswalks cross. It is civil, it's the law, it's the thing to do. If you don't like waiting, find another route. What a great city it would be if we were that civil to one another instead of seeing what we can get away with.

And if you make the argument pedestrians needs to do their job first and cross correctly or whatever the argument will be on this thread that pedestrians have to do their part. Nope. Cars are BIG. Cars are HEAVY. Cars can kill. Let the cars start being polite and letting people cross. We can teach our pedestrians after, why? Because then they are still ALIVE to learn how.

I always stop for pedestrians when they are on the curb and trying to cross the street. However, I've seen people cross streets not on the cross walk, cross against the light on a busy street and then jump off of the curb without looking up from their phones. You are supposed to look both ways before you cross the street! We learned this in Kindergarten.

I drive through DT JC and Hoboken often and I can't tell you how many times I've had to slam on my brake because some idiot who wasn't anywhere near the curb while I entered the intersection, walks into the crosswalk without looking up. If a car is already approaching the crosswalk that doesn't mean you can run from the sidwalk and jump off the curb into the intersection to cut off a car! Look up and stop before you cross the street!

They still have the right of way regardless if they are idiots or not. Don't adhere to j-walkers, but adhere to those crossing at a legal pedestrian crosswalk. Phones in hand, blindfolded, walking backwards, those with a skip in their step, a gaggle of teens walking .000008 mph, they legally have the right of way. They are soft targets, cars are hard targets. You hit 'em, you pay, not the other way around.

Fine. I'll go to jail but at least I'll still be alive.

Re: H&M to open at Newport mall

Home away from home

There is no way a store like H&M would ever open a store on Newark. This is the same issue with Whole Foods...no parking, no store. This isn't NYC with tons of foot traffic and pubic transportation. The rent they'd have to pay for a huge store like the one in Manhattan would seriously prohibit profits, especially considering that the price points are pretty low. This is why stores like Gap, etc won't ever open in Hoboken either, much less downtown JC.

I just like H&M for their kid stuff.
