You may gloat on this but it is not a given... With the dissolution of the education system here, the new less-equal economy and the rise of social media as "fact", Trumplusconi is a real possibility here as it happened in Italy.

Racing in Liberty State Park
Home away from home
Home away from home

Admin, please relocate this notice accordingly:

Tonight as I was completing my run in Liberty State Park, I witnessed 2 cars racing down each other along freedom way around 6:30 PM at high speed. I first saw then close to the nature center then, as I was approaching the south parking lot, they passed me again heading south. The first car nearly crashed into a vehicle stopped at the intersection of freedom way and morris pesin drive.

Considering the road configuration there, the cyclists and everyone, it could have turned very badly. Had I known they were going to turn back, I would have recorded the event. In any case, I wonder who should be kept informed of this. This is an accident in waiting!!

Re: Jersey City mayor-elect orders end to citywide reval

Home away from home

Imho Steve Fulop would have done less arm to himself by coming clean and supporting a new reval while rejecting payment for the previous one based on shoddy work (remember the form filled with pencil and hardly any look at your property?) instead of bogus arguments. Now I can't see how he can be elected on a democratic gubernatorial ticket based on inequity. For the record I live downtown and will likely see my taxes go up. Taxes won't kill you, but BS will Mr Mayor.

If you like being waken up by your neighbor sneezing in the middle of the night or even dropping a pen then by all means buy into this place. It looks even worse that the condo building I was living in Hoboken in the early millenium and it took me years to readjust after that one.

What? There are sections of the span that have no barrier, hard to believe they will reroute traffic there.

If both bike providers were willing to accept a set of racks for their competitor in "their" town and Hoboken refused then Zimmer is at fault. I can appreciate though why she refused... the portability brought by Citibike is quite compelling vs. their own system.

Re: Dolma Restaurant

I have been there and I concur that the meals are excellent and the atmosphere intimate. It is the best egg benedict in town, the way the eggs are prepared and assembled on the cured beef is extremely tasty. The signage is a little small imho so I suspect people are missing this gem which would be unfortunate. Starting brunch there and finishing it at cocoa bakery across the street is something to put on a foodie guide tour...

Re: Builders in Downtown Jersey City

Back to the original thread below is another architect I know, he has been doing gut reno on houses on Manila and 4th. He is from Argentina but licensed in the States and has a structural engineering background (it can always be helpful), with experience in small buildings and bigger ones. His sense of space and interior designs are superb and his fees were pretty reasonable last I checked.

Good luck with your reno!

Re: Chris Christie expected formally end presidential bid today

It was McGreevey who was closeted, not his (he wished) lover... Back to Christie we have the confirmation of his really not wanting to be back to Joysey... I guess he got scared of the idea of ending among us all in Jersey City. And..., as we have seen with Trump on twitter, the aggravation one can put there is so much better than the one one should expect on jclist.

Re: Pulaski Skyway to close for 2 years after Super Bowl:

Yes I have seen for 139, I drive there pretty much every day. In addition to the bridges by Baldwin, the western end just before the exit to Tonnele and 280, where many structures criss cross each others has not been touched, I am talking especially of the section with that big transversal beam that is supported on concrete that is falling appart. Post the exits yes they have done a good job at reconstructing the steel beams.

What about the major bridges of the skyway? It seems like these are the major components left prior to resurfacing/reopening, the work has been progressing nicely up to that point.

Have people noticed how they seem to have worked on the skyway but none of the bridges that support it? It is a similar story with 139, none of the bridges at Baldwin etc have been touched. These are the structurally supporting elements and it does not look like they are doing anything there certainly when on the skyway.

Re: Hamilton Pork

You clearly don't know Chama. There are people who are trying to put a positive attitude on their live and always counting their blessings in small and big ways. But strangely other people have a way of turning it negative as a systematic way. I guess it helps them feel better about themselves and give them a sense of control on the description of reality around them.

For the record I went to Hamilton Pork during the deep freeze. I liked the layout which is somewhat in between Porta and South House. The music was great. Portions were a little bit on the smaller side but very tasty to me. I agree that they might benefit from expanding their beer section. I will be back for sure.

Re: UBER - car service in Jersey City

I usually go for Uber by default but I used Lyft over the holidays for EWR. On Jan 1 I had a quote for $38-50 on Uber for EWR pickup and I ended up paying $26 on Lyft with a generous tip - and the driver was right there. They are clearly training their driver into using the usual Uber professional jargon.

Re: Fulop wants to change the election from May to November
Home away from home
Home away from home

Uhmmmm..., I did not get my paper ballot, so will vote first thing in the morning. I don't think it will be a wash for one side of the question but the idea of saving money is paramount in my mind, as well as getting a higher turnout..., at least in the first round. I don't expect much change in the runoff turnout whether in June or Dec and I wish the USA was joining advanced countries like O'Canada with their instant runoff ballot. That or mandatory participation would ensure better participation in our Plutoc.. I mean Democracy.

Oh I would vote for 3h parking downtown instead of 2h if it was ever on the ballot, it is important that people of a certain age have a chance to enjoy their lunch or doctor appointment without worrying in the waiting room. I truly support Candice recommendation on that one.

Re: Oil tank sweep
Home away from home
Home away from home

The impact of contamination is way different whether the area at stake is outside of the building or not. I would argue that every house in downtown JC has some level of contamination in the soil. If outside, the risk attached to oneself and one's neighbor is very small due to air circulation, much less that breathing one neighbor smoke actually. If people were really consistent with that argument, they would close most of Liberty State Park that still has plenty of forestry hexavalent chromium areas. I will never understand this as scientifically sound... but in my time here I have heard of plenty of shoddy paperwork. I know of some friends who had a view of a short sale on Jersey Avenue where a falsified soil test was communicated to them because the bank/owners obviously preferred doing that than risking a stain on the deed. They moved on to the suburbs.

LeFric does not care, he already got his money back... That's a testament to the shoddy construction project-wise across the area. Every time I pass by the Trump tower or cross the light rail track, I know it is a matter of time before something happens... Just an example...

Sure. Other than new language, last I checked the JC vote in November was still proceeding forward with no disaster in view... but we may still be hit. Is Fulop still going to hold the election if there is a carmageddon? Readers are holding their breath...
