Re: Hamilton Park Renovation - Meeting Dates
Home away from home
Home away from home

When I first moved to Jersey City, I liked the abundance of mature trees. But I knew that eventually they would all be chopped down in the name of progress. Will anyone even mourn the passing of the trees of Hamilton Park?

Without trees to provide shade, you can not eat lunch at noon in the summer. Remember this warning!

Re: Safety, our children, stop signs and speeding downtown

I don't think we need speed bumps. Think about what's going on here. The people running stop signs are fully aware of what they are doing. They are not so distracted that they've forgotten they are off the highway. The speed bump might slow down a few of the maniacs for an instant. But these people are angry at the traffic control devices and angry at the pedestrians. The speed bump is as likely to incite them to drive more dangerously as it is to convince them to obey any traffic laws.

We simply need people to be afraid of the repurcussions of running stop signs downtown. If everyone who ran a stop sign at a speed above the speed limit were arrested and charged with reckless driving, it would send a significant message.

The first step needs to be videotaping cars, and going to city council meetings with documented numbers of cars that run a given stop sign per hour, including how many were going over the speed limit when doing so. The flashing light at 8th an Marin should be particularly dramatic.

I doubt people in Downtown JC really care enough about their family's safety to bother videotaping drivers or going to city council meetings. The reckless drivers know this too.

I know how bad these intersections are. 9th and Erie is the worst. I'm amazed that drivers are willing to run a stop sign at double the speed limit, even with a pedestrian with a stroller in the crosswalk.

The intersection at 8th (I think, by the firehouse) and Marin is insane. At 11pm the light changes to flashing red, and nobody stops.

Anyone who cares to change this needs to take video of this outrageous behavior. I have never seen someone with a video camera on one of these corners. This leads me to believe that no one -really- cares.

Re: Epps 'appalled' at OT, vows to correct it

The JJ article conveniently compares the pay a head custodian makes in 2 years vs the pay the superintendent makes in 1 year. We're to then believe that the pay is unreasonable, because they are similar.

Why shouldn't the head custodian make half as much as the superintendent, if the head custodian really is working a lot of overtime? Is the superintendent even competent, considering the apparent mismanagement?

Where is the allegation that they weren't doing required work during that time?

A different article says "In addition, Epps said, the state has cut its number of maintenance employees while increasing the requirements for the number of maintenance staff needed per square foot. "

Every indication is that there is legitimate work that needs to be done. Any error is in cutting staffing to "save" money, resulting in higher overtime costs.

If overtime is being worked without supervisor's approval repeatedly, then it has their approval. It might be outside some written procedure, but is it likely that the JC government has really managed to make actually functional overtime procedures for employees?

Re: Amiya Restaurant: Indian fare with flair in Downtown Jersey City

I love Indian food.

Cafe Spice is simply awful. I have seen the frozen food arriving in trucks. It is still better than a lot of Newport choices so I admit to still eating there. But I regret it as much as the mall food court.

Amiya is good, although I have only been there for lunch and had the buffet.

Rasoi I have eaten there several times (excellent) and gotten the delivery many times (the only one I like in JC).

Where else should I go, in Little India especially. I like my food as authentic as possible. Really.
