Whether or not, in the eyes and wording of the law, there is a "conflict of interest" or a "conflict of office", the fact remains that too few people have too many jobs in municipal and state office. As a sidenote, I think we really need some legislation prohibiting people from holding both state and local level office concurrently.

Concentration of power was one of the founding fathers' biggest concerns and the main reason for the system of (now laughable, at least at the state/local level in NJ) checks and balances built into our Constitution.

"What he meant by", and "what he actually said" are two very different things.

Good on you for the work you do but by now you should know you can't put words in your client's or any other witness' mouth.

What the hell was this thread about anyway, I got sucked into the grammar/logic/journalism/political BS facism.

Sir-

Who appointed this ethics board? As a newer resident I am just coming up to speed with some of these issues.

I believe this action on your part is exactly the type of work our local government should be taking on, and appreciate the effort.

Thanks,

Hmm. I'm paying into Social Security and not currently taking anything out of it.

Retirees are not putting anything into it and are taking out from it (by the way the average retiree receives back the ENTIRE amount they put into the system in about 7 years).

So essentially I should just drive down to the retirement home on payday, and cut out the middleman.

That is NOT "pay as you go".

This issue makes me mad.

Dirty bombs generally don't "vaporize" anything except that which is in the immediate, limited vicinity.

The danger is the radioactive particulate matter which is vaporized in the explosion, which in turn is carried indiscriminantly in the wind.

That's all I'm going to say about dirty bombs in an open forum. There's plenty of online help for ne'erdowells and I'm not going to add to it.

Isn't there an online petition generator that, at the end, transmits the petition to your lobbying target? Can't remember what that was just now but seems useful.

Hmm.

No particular order:

35 minute commute door to door (though I admit I wish people on PATH had a better understanding of personal space)

My beautiful apartment kicks a$$ and I'd be in a much smaller, not as nice space in Hoboken or the city

My room-mate. OK, so she'll never see this but whatever.

Good takeout/delivery options

Proximity to LSP

Proximity to EWR

Waterfront

Random fireworks shows that set off every car alarm in PH.

(cynical bd wonders if drgoogle is a landlord)

In all seriousness though, I had never been happy about renting a living space- until I moved down here and started to see where this market is going.

Now, I figure even if my monthly rent is higher than it should be, I am not in an overpriced mortgage for an overpriced property in a community with arbitrary zoning and less than responsive government.

Spend twenty minutes, half an hour with SimCity building and financing the way JC has built and see where it gets you.

Incidentally, does anyone know when Grove Pointe changed market approach? They were initially supposed to be all rentals from what I recall...

It always amazes me how quickly discourse disintegrates amongst the masses of desk jockeys and burger flippers when it comes to second guessing and trashing the work of people who have decided to serve their community in a capacity that puts their lives and their family's entire world at risk just by going to work.

RIP, Officer Infantes, peace to your family, and a way too late thank you.

This is maybe a dumb question but I just moved here and before that, lived in the same place for years.

How do I register as a voter in JC and how do I find out where to vote? I was a regular voter in my old community but I'm unclear on what I need to do here.

Thanks

I hope you're kidding. I hate when people take their cynicism to this level and are dead serious about it.

Politics can give one reason to be cynical - certainly - but this kind of knee-jerk ill-informed voter apathy-cum-cruelty really makes me ill.

I for one, moving to JC in the next few weeks, would like very much to be a part of heavier voter turnout.

But, where do you get information about the candidates? If JC is anything like the town I'm in now (Lyndhurst), you pretty much only get attack ads in the mail.

Or, do you just say to hell with it and vote the incumbants out no matter who they are?

Both. I would suspect more the latter than the former. I would imagine there are also some liability concerns when you've got a "police official" in a forum like this, whether or not they're posting on an "official" or "informal" basis.

I would think, putting myself in their shoes, that the lack of control of the discourse is a big problem. Not because they are controlling per se but because the job is difficult enough to begin with, without the internet pissing contests. The job is hard enough to begin with.

That, and from what I've seen online, you're right- people love, love, love to bash the police.

Re: Councilman's Wife Mugged

Curious as to who ships to NJ, I have never seen any dealers willing to do so. Not busting your chops, I'm legitimately curious.

As for NY, it is from "a licensed firearms dealer or pharmacist". I don't know about permits though.

For those contemplating adding OC spray to your "feel better walking down dark streets at night" kit- the wind is not your friend. More often than not you'll wind up spraying yourself.

If you are going to buy it- test it! Every three - six months or so. Someplace well ventilated and private. If you can find one, take a course- I don't know of any around here but you'd better know how to use it. In a good course, you'll probably be on the receiving end of the OC at some point. You will NOT enjoy this but you WILL appreciate it should you have to actually use the spray someday.

Stay safe.

Bdlaw You CAN ship pepper spray to NJ. In NY you need to buy it in state even than you need a special license.

When I asked several police in JC , all gave me different answers.

After further research I found out that in NJ you can carry up to 3/4 of an ounce. basically the keychain type. when I go out late night I carry a 4 ounce cannister. More fire power. Although it is illegal , i'll take my chances. With the 3/4 ounce you could take no more than 1 or maybe 2 attackers. It's a small dose.

For home use I think there is no limit on the size of the cannister.

Get a keychain pepper spray from fox labs . About $10.00. Keep it easily accessible otherwise its useless. Basically hold your keys by the spray cannister at all times. You usually have milliseconds to react in an attack.

Re: Councilman's Wife Mugged

Regarding pepper spray-

Completely legal to purchase with one caveat- it must be purchased IN THE STATE, it cannot be shipped to the state of New Jersey. In other words, you can't buy it online or through a catalog. Compare it with NY though and it looks like militia country- in NY state, you have to purchase your pepper spray from a firearms dealer or pharmacist.

And I wouldn't advise carrying anything more dangerous than a nail file in New York city, you're liable to wind up in jail even if you use it to defend yourself.

Note- I'm not a lawyer and you should never take any advice on the internet as solid legal advice.
