Re: St. Lucy's Shelter
Home away from home
Home away from home

Hey sal you know whats really funny, watching some guy pull up to st lucys with his two kids in the car and going in to get a bag of grocerys. The kids don't know nor care, their hungry.

The same guy goes around the corner at christmas to the salvation army and gets some presents for the kids, the kids don't care they want toys.

As for the homeless peeing in the park,if i see it i yell at them and you know what they recognize me from the shelter so they tend to listen. If your treated like an animal you tend to act like one.

There are plenty of a$$holes at the shelter just like everywhere else but there are also a lot of talented people who just caught a bad break.

The way i look at it is that one or two things different in my life could have lead me there myself.

Sal, just so you don't think i am just some bleeding heart from downtown i will leave you with a jersey city salute,
"Go #OOPS# Yourself"

Next week is very big on the calender in all shelters county wide.A group i work with gives St lucys 15 turkeys with all the fixens for thanksgiving and they really do appreciate it.
It is not just the homeless that get there food there,a lot of borderline families depend on their help.Canned goods in small quantities don't help because you can't serve a large group but a case of canned goods is best.
Bank it in your Karma account and bring them a case of Food.

Somebody is going to get their ass in a sling.DCA rules are you build the standpipe as you go,one floor at a time, just for this reason.Building is made of concrete but you need all the wood to support the cement until it cures.

Builder will be fined for sure.

Wow its really wild down there. The top 4 floors are burning out of control. If the wood frame is supporting just poured concrete than that whole structure could Pancake.Very scary....

Actually you can see the exact spot is the North West corner of the old Butler Building (350 Warren Industrial). The yellow painted edge of the dock is exactly as it was in the video.

Re: Fulop's Referendum Update

LITM was packed last night with volunteers and there was a definite vibe in the room that this thing was going to take off.
Maybe it was the booze but i got a kick out of watching the old timers from Ward A and Ward C mingle with the younger downtowners.

Extra bonus was a speech by dale Hartman about the Oct.13
Embankment rally. The people there from outside the ward who would not have known about it promised to help out.

Last time i saw this kind of thing was in the 80's when Tony Cucci was speaking in a club on brunswick against the Re-val.
Back then there was dozens of little Clubs all over town where you could go and speak to local groups.I guess the bars will have to do.

Can the machine really be that stupid as to run ads against a
referendum on ethics. What would they say?No they will run an underground campaign of city workers and their families.

I think the machine can be beat on this one.

They should be looking at the city for theft.

The city takes in about 6.9 million in fees at the building dept.but it only costs around 2.8 to run the dept.
State law says a building dept should only collect what it needs in fees to do the job it is required to do.

Thats why when you write a check at the building dept you make it out to the JC treasury. The city takes the extra money and puts it in the general fund.

They should be using the money to run the dept more efficiently. More inspectors more counter help,Ect...

He should not be renewed at all but if they must keep him why not just hold him over till the next election where the voters will decide if we have an elected or apointed board.

I guess if they build a nice wall around the transformers like they did on grand street it might look ok.Anything that gets the Powerhouse off the ground is good.

Only in jersey city do you fail upwards.Carl was a lousy chief of staff so now to get rid of him they promote him to the head of a multi million dollar agency.

The council could simply get together and adopt their own code of ethics if they wanted to.They could hold a press conference and make fulop look foolish.Don't hold your breath. They just want this to go away.thats what they mean by Grandstanding.
A referendum is their worst nightmare. They cannot defend the indefensible. They will kick and scream and threaten and try to stop it behind the scenes but it will not work.

When they lose the county will just increase their pay by 30,000
to compensate. At least the theft will be in public.

Mr Elkind,of course you have to do the job first. No argument there. If this is done right and it passes it can change the nature of Jersey City politics for the Better. No amount of people in that chamber was going to make them vote the right way.

Well according to the nj.com web site we just may get the chance to say "well done".They are reporting that Steve Fulop will put the Question on the Ballot in a Referendum.

So it should go from "well said" to "well done" No?

They do walk on resolutions that cost millions of dollars. They pass on abatements that they never knew about before the meeting. Its either right or its wrong.Your either on the wrong side or the right side of an issue. If your not sure speak up or abstain, voting no means you could care less.

It should be the other way around.County govt.should be done away with as it serves no useful purpose. The existence of county Govt. in hudson only goes back 40 years. The cities could easily take care of them selves and county services are just redundant.
Tom degise is only the third County Exec. we have had since county govt. was started.
