If you dedicate a room to prayer you are taking away a space that could be used for something actually worthwhile.

Please... how much space on any given campus is dedicated to athletics? For someone not into sports, that is a bigger waste of space.

Wrong, sports are no different than art and music and have a place in education. Plus they keep alumni engaged and money flowing (though probably not at the Community College level).

The issue here is that a room should not be dedicated for a single specific religion in a public institution.

Your biases precede you. Sports only have a role in education, insofar as they perpetuate hetero-normative, patriarchal societal mores. I agree with you on the money angle, though - probably the worst reason the strangle-hold of organized sports on education is tolerated, as it keeps middle-aged former (and arm-chair) athletes involved.

I guess you feel that you can't be gay and an athlete. Tell that to Michael Sam and Brtiney Griener.

The cops need to start aggressively ticketing people that double park in the bike lane on Grove Street. Otherwise they are useless. There are at least 2-3 jackasses blocking the lanes at all times.

I heard they have to use a Chinook as it's the only helicopter available that can accommodate his great mass.

You already have access to electronic databses through the library.

The system certainly needs more funding, the main branch is dilapidated and in poor shape for a city the size of JC.

I walked by on Monday and it looks like the new place is called Sixth Borough Bar and Grille or something like that. Going to be a sports bar by the looks of it. The signed mentioned how they would have "every game" as well as billiards.

Christie has ties to the Genovese family, it might be best to take his threats seriously.

Yes, I'm bigoted against idiots, I'll cop to that in a Jersey City second. Stupid people offend my sensibilities, and make life difficult for both themselves and others. But even God has a plan for those so afflicted.

But the looney left partisans can't avoid the fact that the SOTU speech was nothing more than less of the same.

The only thing he got right is the 'year of action' meme-after the effects of Obamacare hits those who have healthcare through their corporate jobs you're going to see plenty of action.

In November.

Calling a woman, who identifies as such, a man due to her sexual orientation is bigoted plain and simple.

Yeah I just snagged a cheap but effective garbage can from CH Martin. Would have been twice the price at Shoprite or a similar store.

The article is about a month old, and Cuomo has fully backed Christie at every opportunity over conegate, nothing new here.

I know it's a month old. Why do you think he was trying to stop the investigation? He apparently didn't know of any wrongdoing so I find it very suspicious he didn't want it looked into.

Back to Christie-he fires anyone involved with cone gate, yet the haters are still hating.

After calling them 'abject idiots' (obviously not handling his own staffers with kid gloves, he's an equal opportunity plain talker), do you think he's worried about a smoking gun email somehow connecting him?

Nope, and that's why it's already becoming a non story.

The people that work at Taqueria are pretty rude in my experience. The food is okay, but not markedly better than the cart outside the Grove PATH.

How long until some developer buys up the massive, gated-in parking lots surrounding the co-op towers at 280 Marin Blvd. (between Marin and Columbus). You wanna talk about an eyesore.

Plans to do just that have been in the works for a decade at this point (there are renderings in the rental office if you're curious). But when they ripped out the connecting buildings to begin construction they discovered the soil underneath was toxic, and cleanup has to happen before they can build anything new.

Ah, I see. I knew that area was in the heart of some of Jersey City's worst chromium contamination, but didn't realize someone had actually started the process of clearing that space. I wonder when and if the clean-up will ever be completed or if it would be possible to get federal (Superfund?) money to do it.

I would also hope the plans included a new street or at least a pedestrian walkway connecting Montgomery and Columbus between Warren and Marin.

The cleanup is already in the second phase should be completed in the spring.

The lot this article is referring to has to be south of city hall not east.
