Re: Australians investors buying up Jersey City housing

They are buying a lot of properties -- looking to buy cheap, rent and profit long term (see their website - http://www.usmastersresidential.com.au/). They also list their rentals at dixonleasing.com
Couple of concerns.
- First, they're renting and renters are not as invested in the area as owners.
- Second, they're paying all cash -- which will make it even harder for those of us buying for personal use to compete.
- Third, not sure to what degree they are really invested in improving the areas -- individual property owners are, not sure about corporations.

McGinley Square Revitalization - Is it dead?

Last I heard about the McGinley Sq Revitalization Project was that St. Peter's was pulling out and no eminent domain. Were those the nails in the coffin? Hope not. But, haven't heard of any progress.

Many thanks for the reply. For anyone else who may be interested it's held at 6PM on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Old Bergen Church. However, they're not sure if they will meet in November since that will be the night before Thanksgiving.

I live on Beach St. so can't say much about your particular block. However, I see some positive changes in the area despite the bad economy.
One more neighborhood resource is the Heights Hope Neighborhood Association.
Web: http://heightshope.webs.com/
Meetings Schedule and Location: 7:00 pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month in the Auditorium of PS #28 School
The first part of the meeting includes feedback from the local precinct. We have a great Police Community Relations Team.

Does anyone know when the monthly Captain's Meeting is for the West District? I heard they meet in the Old Bergan Church.
Any feedback on the Police Community Relations team for this area?
Thanks.

Re: Montgomery & Kennedy Blvd. - How safe is this area? What about shopping?

Thanks for the feedback. You are both stating my concerns. Not sure if the pros (e.g. St Peter's; the homeowners making a positive impact; possible future development) outweigh the cons (lot of questionable characters that may stay around for a long time).

Montgomery & Kennedy Blvd. - How safe is this area? What about shopping?

We're thinking of buying a property near Kennedy and Montgomery. Currently live in the lower part of the Heights so I certainly not interested in comparing the area to Downtown JC. I'm realistic and the Heights and Journal Sq /McGinley Sq area is what I can afford. Anyway, I've asked a couple of residents what they thought and they all say they like it, adding that St. Peter's keeps the area stable and the demolition of the Duncan St. Projects was a big help. Walked around quite a bit .. If you go a couple of blocks east or south, the blocks are mixed with beautiful private homes and larger apartment building with a lot of hanging out. Go further east and you have boarded up buildings (around Monticello). Go a bit further you have the Beacon. Even the Heights doesn't change that quickly so I can't get a real sense of the area and its future. Also, not much in terms of supermarkets (those that are there make the Heights' Shop & Stop look great). I don't drive so I rely on local merchants.
Any feedback, including what you think the future holds for the area, is appreciated.
