I went this evening, it was a packed house. The Springsteen cover band did a good job (saves $4k) Food always top notch, they ran out of rice balls, the brick oven pizza looked good, and the gelato was a nice treat. Never a dull or disappointing moment at this annual Italian event.

Hit-and-run victim calls for Jersey City councilwoman’s resignation, says he’s considering lawsuit

The man thrust into spotlight when he was struck by Jersey City Councilwoman-at-Large Councilwoman Amy DeGise in a hit-and-run last week says DeGise’s decision to leave the scene shows she is unfit to hold office.

“Anybody can make a mistake,” 29-year-old Andrew Black told The Jersey Journal Thursday, “but a hit-and-run is a felony.” (Hit-and-runs can be either misdemeanors or felonies in New Jersey, depending on whether they cause injury. In this case, DeGise has not been charged with a felony offense.)

I think it's time to say adios to Dunlop and his team of socialists. I'm all for affordable houses but not at any costs. people in affordable housing should be paying their fair share.....that's the problem with projects....residents of many projects complain about all the problems but that's because they don't pay for upkeep

Great Mechanic with best prices
Newbie
Newbie

Its Elmar Auto Repair and he isn't in Jersey City he is located in
Elmar Auto Repair
15 Anderson Ave, Fairview NJ

owners name us Elmar they always charge me the best prices. 2012 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Touring
- both front axels
- all 4 brakes, disks cross drilled & pads
- front left head light rewired the socket clip fell off for the main light bulb
- Front left suspension mount

All for 1600$

They fixed my neighbors 2014 Audi Q5 for a couple hundred dollars when the dealership quoted 2K for the fix.

His garage is only 21 minutes away from Coles & Hamilton Park in Jersey City. So it's not far at all. Especially if you want to save money for a great mechanic.

Dealership told me a minimum 2500$ if it took them longer than a certain amount of time then 3300$. Elmar had it done in about 3 hours I went home and came back because his shop is so small there is no waiting area but there are restaurants near by and a Burger King etc if you don't want like BBQ rib, or hispanic food.

Pop-Up Gatherings !
Home away from home
Home away from home

Has anyone been hearing the loud obnoxious music behind Tonnelle ave. ? Those large pop-up gatherings are happening again west of Tonnelle Ave. behind the Ringside Bar and the cemetery by the PSE&G facility at Van Kuren and James Avenues. Large gangs of twenty to thirty people having sound battles with speakers as bis as garbage cans powered by generators. It usually occurs on the weekends after midnight. The "music" reverberates and resonates throughout the Western Slope. The North District police captain, Ward D councilman, and other elected officials are aware of this. Stil, call the radio room (201) 547-5477 to prioritize the issue.

People should buy the Jersey Journal, the 2022 Senior of the Year for Jersey City is Laverne Webb Washington by the County Executive and the Board of Commissioners. Different seniors are picked, the article notes that the winner in Secaucus was voted for so the rest must be picked by the County. It is in the July 23, 2022 edition.

Potential reasons for this in part is covered by MedCram. The virus spike protein has mutated significantly from the spike protein generated by the mRNA jabs. Possibly to the point of providing negative efficacy.

Higher taxes and the Jersey City Police do not enforce the noise ordinance during sleep hours, such as bass vibrating speakers of neighbors after midnight every night. I cannot wait to move out of Jersey City, to another town where quality of life matters to the government. We pay police salaries, overtime and generous pensions but no enforcement of the law to get a decent night’s sleep. Absolutely horrible!

What Civic Parent does not show is how much the average homeowner is paying that was transferred from affordable housing and rent control properties. The pictures on tax abatements changes because some do expire but it has always been 1/4 of properties were tax abated which pays no school taxes and that does not include rent control which is exempt from tax increases under the Consumer Price Index. Yet other Hudson County towns do allow taxes increases to be passed on to tenants. The bottom line is, if others pay their fair share of government, out taxes would be lowered.

For a little 750 sqf 1 br condo in jc - not even one of those new expensive buildings, my property tax went up by ~$3200 a year, for a total of $12,500 / year in tax. On top of maintenance fees etc.. fk that[/quote]

What does Jersey City have that you would consider paying that exorbitant fee?

Some years ago, the Jersey Journal had an article on this subject. Since the city receives federal funding, they cannot turn away non-citizens and non-residents. Besides the Biden administration made an announcement that non-citizens will get federal funded housing.https://www.theblaze.com/news/biden-illegal-immigrants-housing-aid

Affordable Housing is code for cheap housing that is excluded from taxes. It is a contract that pays the city a flat fee and no school taxes. Really, it is housing that illegal immigrants get first shot at, I did a lot of voter registration in the 1990s and 90% of affordable housing then had immigrants. It does not mean they are bad people, but people should know why their taxes go up.

Re: wtf is happening to my property tax

I was there when politicians came to JC and asked citizens to vote for the income tax. They said it would replace property taxes. So, they lied. This was 1976. Too bad the internet was not around then, but the mayor and city council should hold them accountable for their promise of the past. I still remember one politician saying property tax for public schools is not fair.

Re: wtf is happening to my property tax

It's a $159 million increase from last year. Whether that is justified is arguable, but many of the aging buildings do need serious work.

The problem is that Jersey City has seen MAJOR reductions in state funding for schools. If you do a web search, you'll find lots of info about that. This is a good site that presents analysis of the data:

https://civicparent.org/2022/03/13/put ... ax-rate-into-perspective/

So the question is, if not by raising taxes, how do we make up for the funding cuts? I feel that the city and BOE really need to work together. There have (supposedly) been efforts:

https://www.jerseycitynj.gov/news/pres ... lan_fix_school_budget_gap
(I cannot find any info on what happened with this. I realize Councilman Yun passed away but surely such an important plan would have been continued)

https://www.tapinto.net/towns/jersey-c ... ol-s-budget-hole-ali-says
(note - as of a BOE meeting that I watched earlier in the year, they were questioning when/if they would actually funding from this)

Fulop should really NOT be washing his hands of this. It really seems that he's trying to encourage dissent.

so i got the letter from jersey city after posting this, to summarize the reason for this huge increase:

1) Fulop basically said not his fault and washed his hands - it's solely due to the board of education increase, and he has no authority or control over

2) Apparently those ass clowns at board of ed now has close to a $1billion annual budget, no not a typo...$1 billion. And what we get in return are some of the shittiest public schools in new jersey across the board from elementary, to middle, to high school. All ranked at the bottom of NJ (with the sole exception cornelia bradford elementary)

So that's the story, which of you dickheads voted those guys in, time to kick them all to the curbs. It can't get any worse.

For a little 750 sqf 1 br condo in jc - not even one of those new expensive buildings, my property tax went up by ~$3200 a year, for a total of $12,500 / year in tax. On top of maintenance fees etc.. fk that

Re: wtf is happening to my property tax

The state is cutting back money it normally gives to Jersey City because "rich people" live here. The money the state gave Jersey City in the past was based on a high poverty rate. But mayors since the 1990 have been giving out abatements, basically robbing the school system of taxes.
JC has been building more affordable housing which pays nothing to the school sytem but brings in more school age children and the state has decided to cut back on state aid. Then the public school board members gave contracts to teachers which will give them six figure salaries with a BA down the road.
So, now the regular homeowners are required to make up the shortfall of the state, our local generous board members, and support the tax abatments that pay nothing and subsidize the education of affordable housing and rent control tenants.

Pity the poor tenants? Are you serious. JC always protect tenants. During covid, Solomon placed tenants under protection that still exists. They cannot have an increase if the home is not owner occupied. Then you have affordable housing, they do not pay school taxes. But they can vote for people who raise our taxes at the bord of ed.

I agree seniors do have a problem but this city and state do not care. After all, seniors do not make campagin contributions.
