Funny thing is that this Mayor's Group has a List of People who died from Gun Violence that includes terrorists (Boston Marathon Bomber) and cold blooded murders killed by police... apparently it was being read in NH last week in some sort of honor the dead ceremony when the Boston Bombers name was read aloud :) Makes you wonder

Curious what you mean by none of the Bill of Rights is absolute??? They are in place to protect the citizens from government tyranny and the Supreme Court uses them to prevent abusive, arbitrary or selective law enforcement. They have served this country well despite what some of the people in the media and current administration think.

I can't believe we have an 'act' to accommodate the needs for a private enterprize nothing to do with road maintenance or school services (buses). A frozen dessert van can impede traffic flood and create unneccesary risk for kids.
Cityhall should allocate parking spaces for a fee near parks, like food vans in our business districts that are a 'vender only permit bay'. This way the traffic flow is not impeded, the dessert van is parked legally and children can access it from the sidewalk. These dessert vans are not emergency vehicles or providing a nonprofit service of a school bus.
Personally I see these dessert vans as a private business and should comply like the rest of us with the same restrictions. If there is a safety issue for kids, its these vans that have created it, therfore they should be parked correctly and in the best possible 'safe' location. I'm sure couriers / parcel van would love to have 'red lights' on their vans and make deliveries with special treatment.

Actually saw this same truck parked at the intersection of York on Marin, at a traffic light when the school was getting out. It had the same sign extended and flashing which told me that every car on Marin had to stop at the extended sign off the truck.... no problem, I was walking... but if I had a car at rush hour trying to get through red lights @ York and Grand, I might be pissed by the ice cream truck,... especially when it can move off Marin, on to York!!!

Of course The Holland Motel... a 5 Star Mecca of Hospitality... hope that was a joke... unless they are into playing urban survival games with the drugs, guns and everything else. If you were serious, you might offer them the nice string of no tell motels along Tonnelle Ave. Hear they have great room service.

A little late on this... the line is already going through, has been going for months... it will come out by the Hoboken Lightrail... the issue is dead... everyone got paid off in the Healy Administration.

I was there last Saturday night (soft opening)... the food/service is great and the owner/management team are very accommodating to anything I have ever asked for... my filet mignon was high quality cut of meat that was cooked perfectly... I spent $175 (2 people) at a restaurant owned an Iron Chef last night in NYC and judging the overall meal/price/service, I would "chop" that place. Edwards is a great neighborhood treat, glad they are back online.

The amazing thing is it only looks right from immediate positions in front of the entry, say a 45 degree viewing angle, the other 270 degrees around the site you see nothing but cement blocks, and from a distance it looks like a bunker or the walls of a fort. The next big debate will be when the trees planted in front grow big enough to block the sun and cast shadows.... they will have to cut them down :)

Here's an article about the 911 Memorial at LSP for those who care.....

Empty Sky Memorial

From the article and particularly troubling.....

"Cahill is an unlikely leader of the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Commission?along with his fellow commissioners he has no design or fundraising experience. Yet the commission made up of victims? family members easily reached consensus on the design, unanimously choosing ?Empty Sky? by architects Jessica Jamroz and Frederic Schwartz of Frederic Schwartz Architects in New York. It was one of six designs presented to the 12-member commission out of the more than 300 that were submitted and narrowed down by a professional jury".

*Moral of the story: Never trust a slick, ego driven architectural firm with gobs of state funded money, a group of grieving citizens with zero design credentials and a plan that did not include a local public hearing. Not exactly "Government for the people by the people" was it?

The organizers did a good job.... police were fine, in fact there was one woman police officer cheering bikers on ... saw her at Lincoln Park, Journal Square and intersection Rt139 passing over the highway... also the police officer encouraging bikers up the big hill at Lincoln Park JFK entry... usually heard the sirens but that was because they were passing the group via the oncoming traffic lane to get to the next intersection... saw a couple dummy riders on sidewalks but overall the riders and the crowd on sidewalks were enjoying themselves. It was nice to see the city from that vantage point.

I think what is funny is the reaction from people seeing it for the first time from to commuter boats, usually business people, the looks are priceless when they hear how much it costs? I forgot Christie was The Gov at the last attempt to stop, but the fix was already in by that point.

Court Order???? Let's see what this court order discovers.... if the initial JJ report is accurate (see previous posts) that the victim did not want an investigation, some one is going to be in a lot of trouble. Once identified, the person(s) responsible should be expelled or fired. Good thing school year is ending too, the pressure will be on to identify quickly to put this to bed. You don't want this lingering through summer

How far south are the sidewalks repaired?

The Terminal dockside is not quite repaired but it looks like the boat dock farthest south and that walkway along the cove where people fish (previously closed) are open all the way past Ellis guard station to where the polo grounds are setting up. New benches etc. They have not opened walkway to War Memorial park, but they were working on it... if you ride right up to that side walk barrier there is a road/path that will take you past Polo and out to main street where you can connect to southern part of park... it was being used as staging area, but Park Police did not stop me using to access street.

I don't know, this whole story sounds funny to me... I see those kids all the time at lunch, walking between classes and going to sports practices. I do think whoever did it should be identified, and if a student, expelled for obvious reasons. No matter the motivation, it was a dangerous thing to do at so many levels.

Actually, the poster of this story didn't post the most interesting part of the story....

"These are some of the most vile and abhorrent messages I have ever heard of. It is so over the line,? Horan said. ?The incident is contrary to not only everything that Prep stands for, especially with regard to embracing diversity and teaching tolerance, but also something that is not at all reflective of the day-to-day attitude of our students.?

On Wednesday, all the candidates gave campaign speeches. The victim told police he had no idea who sent the texts and he did not want the investigation to go any further.

That residency thing was amazing and really part of the reason why JC government was so dysfunctional... I hope that the voters in the other wards look closely at these incumbents and consider alternates like Yun and Boggiano... remember that is how Fulop got started.

You should be able to log on to the Hudson County Election Board Website too... they usually post updates/results... unless they go black tomorrow night for some reason :)
