A very odd description of the GWB... without mentioning it by name. But they got Christie's name right :)

Opps, careful your double standards are showing. We are expected to take your word for the Astor Street Fair incident because you witnessed it, while recently, you dismissed as racist the people who last Sunday night witnessed bad behavior at the end of a festival in Exchange Place. Of course you had no comments about the anti-social behavior exhibited by the bad actors (losers) at the festival.

Now, I am not saying you did not see something, but based on some of your previous comments, it is very questionable that you could fairly assess the alleged incident without projecting a racial/political bias. Your conclusion is predictable and would not be any different if you were not present.

It's a fact that I was at this event. It's a fact that this guy claims he was threatened. I didn't see it. The "thug" in question is in his mid to late 50s (the person with McKnight). The "thug" actually lives on the block.

I know what occurred and as much of a scumbag as McKnight is, the idea that Kopko was threatened is laughable.

And yeah, he quoted MLK. What you fail to acknowledge (because criticizing a Republican would be self-immolation) is that he drew a direct parallel. Why? I don't know. But this guy would be better off quoting Reagsn or Ron Paul than MLK...

It never ceases to amaze me how certain people on this board cannot comment on any issue except through their own ?social justice prism?. Thus every other contrary opinion is invalid because it formed on institutional racism and white privilege. Consequently, all contrarians are branded and dismissed as racists.

All people are asking for is accountability on the part of all festival organizers and the city to ensure festivals safe and happy events for all the attendees. They are quick to label people but they never acknowledge that there are issues with celebrations that go on for 2 days and end on Sunday night 8:00pm with police cars, sirens blaring in response to 911 calls. Exchange Place is the perfect location for these festivals, my favorite is the South American festival? we just want the guests to be considerate of the neighbors and the waterfront environment.

And the poster boy for trying to avoid paying taxes on his yacht is democrat icon and noble peace prize winner John Kerry who tried to hide it in Newport Rhode Island to avoid paying taxes in Massachusetts as a Senator. Frankly Years ago the federal government taxed the yacht building industry in the US out of business and overseas via a foolish luxury tax that was eventually repealed.

I would like to respond to your first point, however, as I've seen this argument made a lot. The yacht tax that people constantly refer to is a registration tax - yacht owners need to register their yacht somewhere, but the jurisdiction in which the yacht is registered doesn't actually matter. Consequently, yacht registration fees are a race to the bottom. If youcap the registration fees, yacht owners will simply register their yacht in a less expensive jurisdiction, leaving NJ with $0 in registration fees. It's a much simpler form of the standard argument regarding increasing taxes on the wealthy - they'll just move to a lower tax jurisdiction. However, since re-registering one's yacht in another state doesn't involved uprooting one's family, there's little reason not to do so.

I'm referencing the recent sales tax law changes, not registration fees.
NJ.com
Quote:
New Jersey's sales tax is 7 percent, meaning that a buyer would have to spend $285,715 on a boat to pay $20,000 in sales tax. But under the bill, there would be no difference between how much that buyer would pay versus someone buying a $1 million boat.

In short, someone purchasing a $500,000 boat would be paying less than 7% in sales tax. That is lost tax money so millionaires can buy toys.

For registration... if the boat resides in NJ the majority of the year then it must be registered in NJ, even for residents out of state. I'm not sure how that plays into the sales tax aspect (maybe on transfer of ownership between private parties).

In what is becoming business as usual, the Fulop Administration seems to have a different view of the professional conduct, ethics and standards they held previous administrations too. Employing public fraud felons and overt racists in high profile city paid jobs and then removing them and hiding them in another city position is all to common these days.

Do not respond back directly to the people that sent the letter. These are companies that bottom feed looking for old debts on credit report. They claim to be representing the bank, but that debt was sold off years ago to the group you settled with and probably was not closed properly.

The minute you reply back to them, you are acknowledging the debt is still open. Better to contact a lawyer and get advice.

Transforming Jersey City... we were in the red prior to the last election with annual tax increases. I do not remember so much "free money" coming into the city to make skateboard parks, bicycle paths and park fountains that shoot milk chocolate. Now if the criminal element would only get on board with the good ship lollipop and stop killing people, this city might have a chance?

President Obama came to this New Jersey city on Monday to "hold you up as a symbol of promise for the nation."

"This city is on to something," Obama said in a speech before almost 300 people at the Salvation Army's Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, which offers programs for recreation, performing arts, early childhood and job training.

Obama acknowledged the improvements in the crime rate, the increased number of police on the streets, and the relationships that the officers are building with community residents.

Still, "no one is suggesting that the job is done," the president said. "It's still a work in progress."

The president's appearance comes at a time when several unarmed black men have been killed at the hands of police in communities across the U.S.

Which makes sense to me because I've met a lot of my neighbors and they're great, so I was wondering who the hell are the people who are engaged in the shootings?? It's a very, very small minority. And they seem to benefit from targeted social work interventions. Would love to see something like that here. But wonder how innovative the city is willing to be.

if your theory and numbers are right, the targeted social intervention should be upon arrest for felony gun charges, no bail, quick trial and consequently long prison sentences.

Re: U.S. Sen. Menendez - new federal investigation

Not sure why you keep mentioning Hannity. You make personal attacks and unsubstantiated claims citing ?empirical data? with no evidence. Your circle of friends must think you are brilliant when you toss out these empty multi-syllable words / phrases. I can only assume transcribing your HuffPo talking points you lost the empirical evidence? But it is good that you don't let the facts and logic get in the way of your fairytale viewpoints of the world. The sanctions have not stopped Putin's global ambitions and BTW there would not be any Ukraine crisis if the Obama Administration had not encouraged the overthrow of a legitimately elected Ukraine government. Another foreign policy victory for this President.

I find it rather comical that it is factually pointed out that the sanctions on Russia have been working and your response is to go with ?blindly following? and ?na?ve.? Maybe in your world it isn?t possible to consider one thing positive and be negative on something else. However, I happen to live in the real world. This would be the world where individual actions can be viewed separate from others.

I also have no idea what your article has to do with Russia?s actions in Ukraine. Your statement is ?Tell me again about Obama having the Russians under control?. Since you quoted my comment, maybe you can point where in my comment that I wrote the words you are stating?

Maybe next time you want to post yet another BS strawman argument, you can keep me out of it. I prefer actual honest discussion over right wing echo chamber circle jerking. As I said before, turn off Hannity sometime. The man is less educated than a mule.

Re: Getting the most out of ObamaCare

Bingo... that is why the democrats built a process doomed to fail... there aren't enough people to support mandatory tax! Most unions and large companies got waivers not to participate because then their "Cadillac" health plans would pay penalties for being better than what are on the exchanges. Using Executive Orders, Obama has stopped full implementation of the ACA law on businesses. Insurance companies don't care because after we buy our healthcare, private or public, taxpayer money will be spent to ensure they do not lose money for being part of ACA. You have to implement the law to really see what's in it.

Yah... similar story in JC TK. Some to the stuff said to female bar keeps was unbelievable, liquor talking mostly. Went in a couple times at Fri-Sat night with a DJ & crowds were sketchy. One night there was a patched biker group (whiney Japanese bikes, not HDs). All I could think about was the neighbors listening to that racket every weekend. It won't be missed!

The place was odd location. I went there when it opened and the Pub food was decent... the service was always questionable. "Quality" crashed slowly and I gave up the first summer when the AC failed. Would ride my bike by and the doors were always propped open. I always thought they were trying to hold on waiting for the hotel construction to finish. Their clientele would change from hardhats to visiting white collar types from hotel. Look for an episode of Under Cover Boss... TK CEO/Founder went into field. Always wondered how he missed visiting JC/Hoboken locations.
