Re: anyone know a great plumber for hamilton park area?

Gabe Ambrozia (201-332-4611)

I've used them recently. I had a leak from a bathroom to the floor below. They were great because they gave me two options to resolve the issue and actually recommended the much cheaper ($100) rather than that would have been $600.

Constellation Energy

Home away from home

Has anyone switched over to Constellation Energy for their electric provider? I've received a flier and heard radio ads. I went to their website and read up and spoke to a rep and seemed like a good deal. I guess the only catch is that you have to commit either 18 or 30 months. Is there any other downsides I'm not considering?

I just had my basement gate replaced on my brownstone and used Anthony and Sons. He handmade a custom door for me to my liking and the price was very good. He's a really nice guy as well. I highly recommend him. I know he's done a lot of work on my block.

I don't know why everyone is harping on the parking aspect. As I remember, there really isn't much parking options at the Trader Joe's on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. However I do agree with the foot traffic somewhat. Truly the perfect spot for a Trader Joe's would be in the old Hardware store on Jersey Ave (next to Made with Love). The sq footage of the building would be suitable and the location would be ideal for people to come from both Hamilton Park and Van Vorst neighborhoods, not to mention some of the other areas. The foot traffic in the area is pretty good and it's only a few blocks from the path. It can be a catalyst to the area and hopefully new shops everyone has been yearning will follow.

Parkman, I did not mean to offend you nor wanted to imply that it was you who was recklessly removing the trees. Although I don't know you personally, I know the great work that you do in that park and believe me I greatly appreciate it. I was not aware that you were involved in the assessment and removal of the trees . I thought that the city highered a tree trimmer and let them loose. I'm all for trees and wish that more can be planted on my block.

Why are so many trees being cut down in VVP?. My understanding was that ONE tree that obviously looked dead due to lack of leaves was going to be cut down, but I've seen two other mature trees cut since. Have professionals been consulted prior to cutting these trees? Why are these being cut down? Neither one seemed sick or dead visually. It's disconcerning that so many trees that provide beauty and shade to the park are being removed. Was these removals discussed during the VVPA meetings? Does anyone have any insight?

Re: Trees along Christopher Columbus drive

Thank you for the clarification. Personally, my concern is related more to the lack of a median with greenery (similar to Washington Blvd in Newport or lower Montgomery Street). Having a five lane roadway will be treacherous for pedestrians as well as asthetically being an eyesore. The need to take trees down, although not ideal, is understandable to accomplish a project per specifications. I do wish that there would be replacement of the trees rather than the potted plants, however if that is the only option, the preference would be to have the pots contain trees rather than small bushes.

Why were the center island scrapped? If they made it look more similar to Montgomery Street below Marin, it would help pedestrian flow better. At least we would have a median to get to rather than cross the entire highway at once.

Doesn't anyone in government realize that this is definitely not going to facilitate the build up of Newark/Grove area as a shopping and dining destination if there is a huge highway cutting right through it. JC has so much potential, yet it amazes me how many times they miss an opportunity to take advantage of it.

Very frustrating...

Graffiti

Is it me or has anyone else noticed a considerable uptick of grafitti in and around downtown? Is there a special task force within JCPD that tracks these individuals? These people need to be arrested. Nothing gets to me more that senseless vandalism and littering. I just don't get it. It is absolutely a shame that nice brick building are tagged and painted over as a quick solution.

Does anyone have a good recommendation in a background/credit check agency to use on a potential tenant? I looked at a couple on the net but wanted to see if anyone had a preference.

Does the management company of that shopping center have plans for that location? Seems as though there have been a couple of spots closing and not necessarily due to the economic conditions. I hope they have a grand plan to either redevelop the plaza or bring in better stores.

This is completely unacceptable. I actually walked by that corner with my 1yr daughter around 6pm, although I did not hear anything, God forbid if something happened to my daughter. It's disgusting that these punks continue to hang out in and around that area although many people have formally complained to JCPD in the past.

Rental Agency Recommendation
Home away from home
Home away from home

I have a rental property that will be going on the market in the next month or so and was wondering which agency has the best reputation and performance in finding new tenants in the downtown area? The current tenant occupied the unit when I purchased the property so this is my first time trying to rent it out. It's a 2B/1B 1500sq/ft duplex in a brownstone. I was thinking of posting it on JClist / Craiglist but was not sure of the results it would produce.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Re: NYTimes: GOOD RESPONSE 25% of condos at Crystal Point in Downtown Jersey City are sold

Someone is lying and my bet is the developer either to the city or NYT. Didn't the developer just beg the city for an abatement adjustment because they claimed only 20+ units were sold out of 400+ (abouth 5%)? So, where is this coming from? I think the city needs to investigate and revoke the new abatement agreement if the article is true. Trust me, I'm the biggest proponent of all the new development in JC. It will increase property values as well as quality of life with new stores, restaurants, etc. coming, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the taxpayers subsidizing the developers more than we already have.

I've noticed that space has not been left on the sidewalks for trees. Wasn't the street supposed to be lined with trees? They can't plant them in concrete. Maybe there are going to place large pots. Does anyone know?

I would definitely stick closer to the van vorst / paulus hook neighborhoods. One location that might suit all your needs (adequate size, accessability to all neighborhoods and high foot-traffic) is the former sight of WaMu on the corner of Barrow and Newark (next to Brick Haus Gym).

What kind of business is it? It would be easier to suggest a location with that knowledge, however grove street on the city hall side has a lot of foot traffic. You may want to check out the current "On the Inside" location on corner of grove and montgomery. The store is closing next month and may be available.

Re: The Postal Carrier keeps leaving our front door unlocked

The mailman stikes again...these people are idiots. Yesterday I come home and what's waiting for me on my stoop in clear view of everyone...my taxes sent from my account. It clearly states on the envelop so anyone with a half a brain would know that it contains confidential information. Are you kidding me? Luckily for me no one took them, but obviously our SS# (mine, my wife's and daughter's) are in the forms and could have been easily stolen. This is getting out of hand. I want to go complain, but the people working at the post-office on Washington aren't any brighter.

I too live in VVP neighborhood and mail-service by far is horrendous. There have been many times that I've received all of my neighbors mail and none of mine. I often have neighbors stopping by and dropping off my mail to me. I've received mail on several occasions with addresses several blocks away. The inconsistency of the time we receive the mail is also annoying. I don't understand why the mailmen don't where uniforms? I see them spending more time talking on their cell phones than working.

Hazardous sidewalks

Does anybody know who I can contact to get sidewalks fixed? The sidewalks on the intersection of york & jersey (NW corner) are treacherous. It's adjacent to a low rise condo building. Are they responsible for fixing it or is the city?
