I heard from the attendant at the 9th street station that instead of running 2 trains at night ... somehow - she didn't know - they were only running one. That's why many of us where told to take the uptown path train and were forced to make a loop up and then down into JC(through Hoboken..thanks).

The PATH service Halloween night was absolutely terrifying. I would've avoided going into the city altogether, but I honestly had no idea that it would be as scary as it was.

First, going into the city, we couldn't get out of the 14th St. station and were trapped between the barricade and the building. There were no police anywhere to try to keep people moving. We couldn't have turned back if we tried, we were just stuck on the sidewalk in swarms of people for 30 minutes, crushed and fighting for air.

We tried to leave the city around 3am. The 14th St. station was so overcrowded that we couldn't get onto the platform. We walked to 9th and eventually had to get home by taking the uptown train and looping back around, getting back to JC around 5:30. Never. Again.

Neighborhood info of Grand St. @ Grove area
Home away from home
Home away from home

My roommate has recently been discussing with me relocating from the Harsimus Cove area of JC (2nd St) to Grand St. between Grove and Marin. I'm pretty happy where we live already and although it's still downtown, there are plenty of things you can't determine until you actually live in a home and I want to make sure I know everything about that area before I commit to moving there. Any info that anyone can offer about the area is extremely appreciated such as how bad is the parking situation, street noise, violence etc. as well as any pros of the area in comparison to Harsimus cove. The only reason we'd be moving is to accommodate a friend who is without living arrangements. The apartment is bigger, but my rent would be increasing and I'm not really sure if this is worth it.

Thank you!!

How often do the NYC subways run late at night? It can't be much less than every 30 minutes, which is what PATH is.

the only difference is, in Manhattan you have other options such as walking/cab, but a cab to JC is very expensive and the PATH is the only option for getting home! christopher street to grove street shouldn't have to take an hour.

I have no real desire for a 2nd entrance, but JESUS FARKING CHRIST MORE TRAINS LATE PLEASE. Trains at 3AM that have more people than mid day need to stop right damn now.

+1
My boyfriend gets off work at midnight at the Christopher street stop... oftentimes he can't even fit on the over-packed train and has to wait for the next one, thus not getting home til almost 1am! It's unreal!

holy crap. I was booted with a similar situation...(they spotted my car at 9 and at 4 when I had paid to put my car in a lot for the day) only going to court and losing a work day wouldn't pay for the boot, so I haven't fought it and I'm out $110. Grr

Ditto that, I lived in Long Branch for college and still go there as my beach of choice every weekend.

I'm confused as to how the artists are supposed to afford a $600,000 condo bringing in <$65,000 a year per household?

I grew up in Maryland, and this is one of the first things I noticed when I moved here 6 years ago. In MD we have county police, not every town with their own individual fleet for example. I think it keeps the towns from being so drastically different from the next like they are in NJ.

They'll be good for the weekend, but staying past 10am Monday will serve them a boot (over $100 fine!). This happened to my boyfriend when he was staying over and slept in too late...

I don't have a parking permit because I take my car to work during the day and have never been ticketed for nights or weekends. I'd recommend paying the $10 to put it in a lot for the weekday they're staying over.
