Re: Wedding cake - bakery

Buttercup bakery. They have a location on the upper west side and in midtown east.
They will deliver to jersey city
their red velvet is to die for. http://www.buttercupbakeshop.com/index.html

Also: Payard on the upper east side is world famous. My wedding cake came from there years and years ago. It is outrageously expensive but amazeing.

Good Luck

Did you get the full rabies treatment for your previous bites?

Hell NO. I was young and did not know any better. If it happened today, i would. BTW... I never had rabies.

I missed that 1908 post before. I think you made my point on the rarity issue.

Right on Croft. It's not the trip to the hospital or antibiotics I take issue with. Antiobiotics are given for bacteria from the bite and are cheap and easy. But rabies is a virus and requires very expensive treatment over the course of 4 weeks. I just don't think that needed in a case like this despite whatever hysterics jcnight is advocating. Racoon, yes. Leashed dog, no.

For the record, I was bit a few times back when I walked rescue dogs. So I do practice what I preach here.

I am not advocating hysterics. I am a dog owner my self and have been bitten both by rescue and strays on numerous occations through out my life. What i am saying is: In this case the owner/walker walked away so there is the essence of the unknown. Why take a chance even if that chance is low? I am willing to gamble at alot of things but not with my health, and life. It is a hard call. By no means is that "hysterics". It is a simple decision based on fact.

Well yeah, that would totally explain why I didn't present it as a fact. You really cleared that up.

However, the fact is that you're chances of tripping over that dog and cracking your skull is probably better than you getting rabies from it.

Maybe we should shoot the dog and autopsy it's brain just to make sure though. Think of the children!

Right. kinda like haveing sex with a stranger with out protection. You go ahead and take that chance.
DELETE...

Croft, I agree with you, but then again you are a logical human being

Yes, I know rabies actually exists. Thanks.

Point is this was a leashed dog. It's likely vaccinated and well cared for. Now how many people do you really think get rabies from dog bites in this country? You probably have a better chance of dieing from, well, just about anything.

But hey, if you want to spend the next month going to the doc and getting shots, go for it.

not all dogs are leashed 100% of the time. Alot of people leave their dogs in their small backyards during the day, especially in the summer. the fact that it is "likely vaccinated and well cared for" is a non fact when you mention the word LIKELY.

there have been plenty of racoons testing positive for rabies in jersey city. It could/and has happened.
I would not take the chance.

A boy died beacuse he was bitten by a rabid dog in a jersey city hospital, i think 1908.. History tends to repeat itself. whatever.

BOY, BITTEN BY DOG, DIES FROM RABIES; Parents Take Him to the Pasteur Institute, but Are Too Late. SURGEON IN PERIL, TOO Saliva from the Patient Gets in Cut on His Hand and He Takes Treatment.

Believing, as they say, that their nine-year-old son, Henry Luttman, was in no danger of contracting hydrophobia from a dog bite on his cheek, Arend Luttman and his wife of Jersey City saw their boy develop the disease in a violent form last Sunday and die of it in the Jersey City Hospital within forty-eight hours. Over the years there have been more than a few mornings when I have had to leave my home around 6 am for work. While passing Hamilton Park I observed dog owners running their dogs off leash in Hamilton Park and yelling to them for their return. I remember thinking, how it must suck living on the park having to hear these people wake you up so early. My friends and neighbors who live on the park confirmed such frustration.

Of course I also sympathize with the people who live near the basketball courts who have to deal with the noise from the people playing loudly in courts past 10 pm and in violation of park hours and rules.

In both instances the police should be called and the violators penalized. Difficult to manage is prevention of both violations. Maybe if enough people are penalized that may control both problems. Though I somehow doubt it.

Interestingly when I was house shopping I originally fell in love with the prospect of living on the park. But very glad I was dissuaded from that idea.

I could not agree with you more. However... I was not dissuaded from living on the park, and even though i live on 8th across from the basketball games i can still hear the yelling and screaming. As for the dogs that will take care of itself. I am very much against the off leash dogs that were in the park, but MOST of those owners were very respectful of the noise level early in the morning and late at night. You get the ignorant who lets their dogs bark for half an hour at midnight here and there, but i have to say they were not the regulars out there. That mostly happened in the tennis courts.

The screaming, swearing, and trash bothers me just as much as off leash dogs. The Adult owners of the off leash dogs are there every day and everynight.
The young idiot trash mouths playing ball are there once in a while.

Pick your battles i guess.

hmmmmm. I thought all city parks were to close at 10:00pm

That includes dogs and basketball. Hamilton Park is a city park last time i checked. What if they enforce that rule. No dogs, people or basketball. WOW, wonder what kind of bitching that would start

It would be great to have troopers patroling our city looking for muderers and robbers instead of giving out tickets.

I think that there are many city's and towns that would wish for that, but the cops themselfs would bark a few choice words at even the thought of that. Both troopers and city police.

Oh I was just going to post if anyone has used the dentist on Montgomery and greene. I think it's called Montgomery/Greene Dentists or something like that?

I just met the dentist(s) here yesterday. I walked in out of curiosity. What a great office. Everything is up to date, very modern, VERY CLEAN, and the dentist seem very nice and knowledgeable. Fantastic addition to the area. I am going to give them a try beacuse it is closer to home. I'll let you know in 6 months.

Also, keep in mind that dentist ( dental offices) set their fees by zipcodes plus or minus a few dollars unless they are medicare providers. Also keep in mind that you get what you pay for. What i mean by that is, Sterilization, up to date materials ( if a dentist trys to put a silver filling in your mouth RUN), and if your having any type of crown or prosthetic work done make sure they dont use a cheap lab in china. That crown may only cost you 800.00 but guess what your gonna spend another 1200.00 in 5 years to get it right.
i would rather have it done right the first time, be sure that they sterilize their equipment, and trust the person that's in my mouth.

The only way this could even start to happen is if the whole govt. system was swept clean, put in a bag, thrown out, and start from the begining again .

This place has been corrupt for far to many years. New Jersey it self i beleive has over 97 corruption cases ( Since 2002 I believe, but dont quote me on that), Hudson county is the foundation block ( IMO). I do not think we will see a legit new jersey let alone hudson county gov't in our life time. After all History does have a tendency to repeat itself. What happened today seems like a repeat of an old film.
