Not just that: they provide plate number, the car's brand, model, and color, and a stock picture of the vehicle! And, they also provide a picture of the driver, and their name.

No amount of legislating will effectively counterbalance people's willingness to suspend common sense and total dereliction of self-preservation.

THANK YOU! I was waiting for a while at the Hoboken PATH the other night watching the amazing amount of Ubers/Lyfts picking people up. Folks were definitely looking at their phones trying to find their ride, but few checked the license plate. The one exception was a big burly dad with his kids in tow who walked to the front of the car and made sure he was getting into the right ride.

It's not the entire city, just certain blocks, and often just the one side that was previously 4 hr visitor parking and the other is still resident only. Gotta say it does free up more spots for visiting. There's a plan to really bump up the cost though.

I was in Hoboken yesterday. Used to be .25 for 15 minutes to park on the metered street. I paid what came out to be .05 minute - the meters aren't even marked with the going rate - it's all inked out. So what used to be a reasonable $1.00 per hour is now $3.00 an hour. And they're charging for plastic bags to boot. Death by 1,000 cuts.

Woman Hit by Car - Grove & Montgomery - Sunday @ 7:00pm

I watched the very tragic aftermath of a female pedestrian who was hit by a car tonight around 7pm at Grove and Montgomery. It looked like a car was making a turn onto Grove and hit the woman. If anyone has an update on her condition, please post it. She looked seriously injured. Driving home, I saw several impatient drivers NOT letting pedestrians cross at crosswalks when the pedestrians had the signal. Slow down, people - and let pedestrians cross!

This Hudson County student producer wants public?s help to fund a web series about mental health

By Aya Elamroussi | The Jersey Journal

Reyhan Lalaoui was in middle school when she read a life-changing quote on an online writing forum for teenagers. As she sat in bed, her eyes were glued to one of Toni Morrison?s most famous bits of advice to aspiring writers: ?If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn?t been written yet, you must be the one to write it.?

The 18-year-old Lalaoui, who graduated from high school at age 13 and was a community college valedictorian at 16, said that Morrison?s words stuck her.

?It gave me the permission I was looking for to tell the stories I wanted to tell,? Lalaoui told The Jersey Journal.

Set in Jersey City, ?Suicide Spenders" follows six teenagers as they face mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

AG?s office knocks Gene Rubino out as Esther Suarez?s Chief of Detectives

Whispers about his lack of qualifications have followed Gennaro ?Gene? Rubino since Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez made him Chief of Detectives for the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office (HCPO).

According to a letter sent to Real Jersey City, it seems like Rubino?s tenure as the HCPO?s Chief of Detectives is now over because of those whispers ? which are that he never completed a Police Training Commission (PTC) approved course for either county detectives or police officers.

In a letter apparently written by Veronica Allende, director of the New Jersey Attorney General?s (NJOAG) Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ), it states that ?it is our office?s position that Mr. Rubino does not meet the requisite qualifications necessary to serve in the position of Chief of Detectives in your office...

...It should be noted that Allende spoke highly of Rubino in the letter, saying he had a ?stellar reputation in the law enforcement community.? Yet, given the cloud of suspicion surrounding the NJOAG-HCPO connection related to the Katie Brennan case, the timing of the move might seem questionable to political onlookers."

Theodore McCarrick, the former Newark archbishop and cardinal who wielded immense influence within the Catholic Church, has been defrocked and cast out of the ministry by Pope Francis over decades-old sexual abuse allegations, in a final reckoning for the 88-year-old priest.

McCarrick was laicized, or dismissed from the clerical state ? considered one the harshest forms of punishment that can be issued by the church ? after he was found guilty of soliciting for sex while hearing confession, and sexually abusing minors and adult seminarians over decades, the Vatican announced Saturday.

State lawmakers will announce on Thursday they have reached an agreement that will repeal New Jersey?s narrow two-year statute of limitations that childhood victims of sexual assault say have prevented them from suing churches and other nonprofits, NJ Advance Media has learned.

The new legislation, which has not yet been made public, will allow a victim of childhood sexual abuse to bring a civil suit up until the age of 55 or seven years after they make ?the discovery that they connect the injury to the abuse,? said Sen. Joseph Vitale, D-Middlesex, the bill?s prime sponsor.

You also have to consider the unintended consequences to the individual. If a minimum wage worker who supplements their income with state assistance has their income "bumped up" how does that impact their benefits? Will there be a group of workers who somehow find that their net gain doesn't adequately cover the assistance they used to receive - or will the increase deem them partially or completely ineligible? Is that one of the goals of the Fight for Fifteen?

Prosecutor admits she got 4 emails about Katie Brennan rape case, but say she did not read ?substance of them?

By Ted Sherman | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com and Craig McCarthy | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez received four ?routine? emails laying out accusations of sexual assault involving members of Gov. Phil Murphy?s election campaign, but ?did not read the substance of them,? according to the Attorney General?s office.

In a letter obtained by NJ Advance Media sent to a legislative committee looking into what Suarez may or may not have known about the controversial case, state investigators said they also determined that Suarez did not reply to the emails or forward them to anyone. Suarez has consistently denied knowing her office was investigating the alleged sexual assault.
