Re: Will Jersey City Side with Corey Booker or Conan O'Brien?

I just love that Corey Booker is hip and savvy enough to cash in on this!

I hope this ends with Booker taking O'Brien on a tour of Newark and ending at a great meal in the Ironbound district.

Do these kids wear burgundy shirts? If so, I saw a huge group of these kids on Brunswick around 2nd Street around 2:30pm while I was on my way to work.

If it is these kids, I gotta say they're not too bright for wearing their school shirts when they're running wild and fighting.

My opinion is that you really can't complain if your bumper gets scratched if you willingly park on the street. Get a Bumper Bully or buy a space.

http://www.bumperbully.com/

I own a shitty car. I find it vexing when my lower side panel is scratched. But then I don't care. I know I park on the street. That's WHY I bought a shitty car.

Pay JC the $5 to pay to park in front of your drive way.

JC really needs to open up that bridge. I work near Liberty Science Center and the Light Rail. I get to the end of Phillips Street and Audrey Zapp Drive and I SEE how close the Medical Center is.

It's ridiculous.

Re: ShopRite - the place where you feel safe!

I go to both Shoprite and A&P. I only go to Shoprite when it's not crowded (11PM during the week).

I like A&P even though it tends to be a little more expensive, but as someone pointed out, it's worth it if I need to go on a Saturday afternoon. It's never as crowded as Shoprite.

I had a bad experience at Shoprite about 10 years ago. I was waiting on line and, for once in my life, the line I was in was moving faster than the others. What I didn't know was that the woman in front of me had her BF or SO in the next line to see which would move faster. The guy cuts in front of me with HIS cart of groceries (she had one too). I was tired and annoyed but all I did was cluck my tongue. I didn't even know anyone heard me and all of a sudden they start yelling "White bitch! Stupid white c*nt! Get a tan you f'ing cracker!" And they kept taunting me! I'm 5'2" and was by myself. I'm not going to go up against these idiots. I didn't know what to do. Nobody did a damn thing. What scared me more was that the taunts continued in the parking lot. I just got in my car and left, hoping they weren't crazy enough to follow me.

I've been in JC for 20 years and I can count on one hand the bad experiences I've had with other people. That's pretty good.

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of guest passes you can purchase at one time? Is there a general limit per household?

Info about daily street closings?
Home away from home
Home away from home

I work in JC and I'm late for work everyday because of the various street closings. A section of Jersey Ave was closed so I went down 6th. Part of 6th was closed so I went down Coles to Columbus. Part of Columbus was closed so I tracked back around to Jersey... it's such a fluster cluck!

Is there a website that posts street closings? It seems to be different everyday.

The Lees are well within their right to refuse service to anyone...then there will be a boyvott A-1.

I sooner support the Lees but publicity csn get out of hand and both stores lose bisuness.

I know the green grocer you are talking about. I don't go in often but I have never had a problem. The store keepers, are, indeed very gracious.

I know it doesn't sound like their style, but they are within their right to refuse service to anyone. I do understand that this will lead to more abuse, but they DO have that right!

Re: Boycott Bank of America

I've already boycotted them.

A while back, a bank dissolved and I wound up with a BoA card. I got a deal where I could transfer a balance for 6 months at 0%. I went for it. When the 6 months were over, they raised my APR to 37.11% (and, no, that is not my default rate).

I paid off the card. I'll never use it again.

It kills me that banks are still allowed to prey on consumers. Socialism is looking better everyday.

That's why you never have anything like that sent regular mail. Have it delivered by Fed Ex, UPS, or even certified mail; something that requires a signature. It's worth the expense and trouble.

I have a BoA credit card. I got one of those offers in the mail to transfer some of my balances from other credit cards to my BoA card for 0% for 6 months.

When the 6 months were over, they changed my APR to 37.11% (and that is *NOT* the default rate).

I'm so glad i paid off that card! I'll never use it again.

I have to admit that in the 20 years I've lived here, I've only gone into La Conga once. It was when the Virgin Mary "appeared" in the condensation of a freezer door. Personally, I really couldn't make out the image, but then again, I never got the hang of those 3-D pictures either.

You think bollards are bad? If you go to the Stop&Shop supermarket in Highland Park (near New Brunswick) they actually make you insert a quarter to release the cart. Then when you return the cart you get the quarter back. They said it's because a large portion of the customers walk to the store and they don't want them walking home with the carts.

I think A&P (when it was Waldbaums) and Shoprite both used that system years ago. It was a pain in the arse if you didn't have a quarter on you.

I get out of work at 11pm. If I need to make a run to the supermarket I go to A&P or Shoprite (even though I pass Pathmark on my way home).

I will only go to Pathmark if I really really need something like cat litter and it's after midnight (other things I might need like cold remedies and tampons are closed off). I hate that they shut all the registers down (even the self-checkout registers) except for one at 11pm. I was on line for 1/2 an hour once because the woman at the head of the line kept having her credit cards denied. It was such a fluster cluck! They couldn't find the manager and once they did he told all 20 of us on line that he couldn't open another register until this order was finished. (What pissed me off the most is that she wound up paying with cash that she had all along!).

I'm pretty sure that Pathmark is one Dante's lesser known circles of hell.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I'd hate to see these dogs euthanized because they were raised by a bad owner and grew up in an urban area where they didn't belong in the first place.

I don't know how old these dogs are, but maybe they could get rehabilitated in a place/space by people who could deal with them?

So far I've had two soups: the parsnip soup. DELICIOUS! (I wouldn't lie to you since we ran into the Shoprite parking lot)?

I also had the Thai Soup! Wonderful and VERY filling!!

The chicken chili is still defrosting.

There WAS a little mishap with the garlic soup. I SO wanted it but after I took it out of the microwave I tripped and it went all over my floor (by my fridge; even IN the fridge). At least I'll be vampire-free for a few days.

Please-- I'd like to know what people thought of my Curried Pumpkin soup. In hindsight, it seems a little boring given the wonderful soups we swapped.

This was my first soup swap and I think it was a wonderful success! The unfrozen Parsnip soup that I picked was still warm by the time I got home (and I took a few pit stops along the way). Definitely having THAT for dinner tonight ! And I can't wait to try the Thai soup, the garlic soup, and the chili.

It was really nice meeting you all! And special thanks to Grovester for pulling it all together!

Ohhh... DO give me feedback about my Curried Pumpkin soup. I'd always like to make improvements!!

I had work done at Pep Boys today. I asked about towing and I was told that if it happens they will bring the car back and I pay NOTHING!!!

I still put a sign and a copy of the work order in my back window because I trust NO ONE.

So, apparently THAT'S the DEAL. I have to go back to Pep Boys next week. I'll let you know if policy STANDS.

And some creepy guys asked if I wanted the scratches on my bumper covered. I said no and told them they were holding up traffic. One of them gave me the finger! They were in a burgandy SUV, most likely a late-model (1997) GMC.
