Re: Parkside Bistro - Hamilton Park

I haven't eaten there yet (though last night I was perusing the menu so it won't be long) but the ice cream is just amazing! they let us sample a few last night and it killed me to only pick one

shoprite has them....and they are on sale this week

just grabbed a container (they sell them pre-packed like 4-6 to a styrofoam tray) and getting ready to roast them up for some salsa verde

just an FYI to the owners - your listing for Kitchen Cafe on seamless web is under NYC not JC so it doesn't come up when you are looking in our area

not a dog owner or a parent.... just hoping that there is some space in the park for me as well

I don't see why designating some of the lawn are as pet free is so terrible - though unless it is fenced in I don't see how it will prevent the dogs of those people who feel the park is their personal dog run from getting in there since last I checked dogs don't read

its pretty sad to see people on here getting in fights over how they won't follow the rules cause they aren't 'fair' before the park is even open... sorry life isn't fair why should the park space distribution be? its a small park and everyone wants their chunk why can't we all work together to meet as many of those needs as possible

yes its true some people feel they are above the law and won't follow the rules anyways but shouldn't we try to set an example and attempt to act like adults

we stopped in here after going walking on friday - I liked the choices and being able to mix them.
I got a shroom swiss burger and he got cajun spices w fries. Mine was nice - perfect size for a mini

I would definitely order it again

will they be on seamless web?

definitely.... I am not knocking either location - I like them both and if my current apt was on grand street I would take it in a minute

I also thought parking was easier over there (but I lived across from the firehouse / OTC school so that was 1/2 a block that had no houses so there were less cars competing for the spots

also I know all about living on corners - grew up in boston on a corner down the street from the hospital between the bus that stopped a few houses away and the ambulances my room was the loudest and the dirtiest.... I repainted and then moved a few months later - you could see the outline of every picture on my wall after only 3-4 months! yuck

I lived on grand for 2 yrs and then moved to 4th st..... I never really noticed how loud it was till I moved and all of a sudden I started sleeping all night, falling asleep easier etc

as some one else mentioned its all about where your bedroom is - front of the house and its going to be car & truck noises (there was a pot hole hear me and my place would shake at times from trucks hitting it), there is a fire house & hospital on grand so sirens leaving & coming back....and trash (but that is the same everywhere)

I did like the neighborhood and felt "closer" to the grove st downtown/ train (I was .25 miles and now I am .32 so a MINOR change in distance to the PATH entrance)

my advice is that if you like the place and the noise is an issue for you invest in one of these.... http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-SleepMat ... Conditioner/dp/B000KUHFGM
best $50 I even spent (though it does make sleeping anywhere else suck)

i usually order from honshu as well... had some issues w komegashi (don't know normal or too) but when they delivered they would pack my soup w my sushi order and everything ended up lukewarm which isn't what I wanted -- especially at a higher price

if you are just ordering rolls and things MORE is ok as well

I will also sometimes order from MARU or sushi lounge in hoboken (with sushi lounge being great for funky out there combos but overpriced on straight sashimi type plates)

Re: PATH (pathetic attempt at transporting humans)

Home away from home

yesterday was a huge mess.... and the conductor who was shouting the schedule couldn't have been less helpful if he tried - all they kept saying is that they were going to exchange place ..... no mention of the WTC stop in the city and then back out to Pavonia (this was at 9:30ish)
once we stopped at WTC we got out fast and went to the subway since there was no way I was going back to NJ and witting at HOB

there were alerts in the station but it didn't say anything but addition stop at exchange place.... which is NOT really what happened at all

coming home it seemed that the trains weren't on schedule either since the WTC to NWK is usually on the 30 min and nothing came at 3AM but there was one at 3:30 ish

I just don't understand how the whole extra trip into the city and then back out was deemed irrelevant and not put on the sign?

I really enjoyed the tacos tonight. I had one of each and I thought the meat had just the write smoky sweetness to it - especially the short ribs. It was my first time having any kim chee but I thought the sauce added a lot

I am embarrassed to say that I have been living in JC for almost 3 years now and I had yet to check out any of the Vietnamese places downtown. Tonight we were walking for some sushi / thai etc and saw the menu outside saigon cafe -Absolutely delicious! I am so glad we stopped by and can't wait to order takeout.

we had the spring rolls, chicken satay, beef rendang and a summer special - NJ tomato (tomato stuffed w a pork mixture and then in a tomato soup).
I wish it wasn't such a warm day as the pho soup looked great and I was quite jealous of the table next to us with fresh rolls.

everything tasted nice and fresh and was served w. veggies to make wraps

Guy who seemed to be the owner was there and very friendly - talking to many of the other patrons

I have to say I don't really "get" this memorial either.... seems like its just going to be two big huge wall of steel. I understand that if you stand at one certain spot it will frame out the location of the WTC stood but it just seems really large and ugly - the marriott ones are at least nicer looking and could include a garden or other natural elements

to be honest while ruining the view is not a good thing to me its more about how ugly this proposed monument is.... I can only image what the other options were if a giant block of steel won?

Re: The Postal Carrier keeps leaving our front door unlocked

i moved on jan 21st and I still haven't gotten any mail. I went from unreliable mail in my last place in JC to just none. I have made so many calls (and gotten a good bit of attitude) to the post office I have just had to start having everything go to my work - I don't understand how the mail people in JC can be so incompetent and just nothing happens no matter how much you report it.... whatever you want to think about being a postal worker - its a job and it pays decent I would think there are lots of people who would love a government job especially now - why are we constantly stuck with the bottom of the barrel - If they can't be bothered to do their job why not give it to someone else

That sucks. For what it's worth, they are probably signing up a million new years resolution members and maybe she was sort of fried. She still shouldn't have been a bitch though.

If you are still interested, I'd suggest going back and asking to talk to Michael, the other owner, who is awesome. I asked a million questions and tried to haggle the price down and he humored me throughout (this was a few months ago though).

Oh, pretend you saw me there tonight if anyone asks, okay? Way to blow a resolution two days in...

Michael was there and he initially was talking to me and was really nice / willing to work with me -- then the lady walked in and things went down hill fast....I wasn't really looking for a break just something in the contract that said if I had a legit reason to cancel that I could

Re: Skinner's Loft... delish!
Home away from home
Home away from home

went for dinner last night around 8:30 place was full but no wait for tables.....the little hot rolls were excellent (more of those less of the harder crusty bread please!) we split a mac and cheese appetizer (nice, I liked the french onion soup-esque melted cheese layer on the top and the herbs), he got the ribs (I only had a taste but he seems to really like them), I did the prawns (I liked that the waitress warned they would be served with the head and she could have them removed if I liked (yes please!), wasn't as happy that the risotto that went with it wasn't piping hot, as she got me all excited for it....still very good but I was a little cold myself and looking forward to something that would warm me up)
since I am a dessert lover dinner was saved by the warm chocolate cake though.....but how can I not love someone that serves me chocolate filled with chocolate?
I loved the atmosphere -- if that doorway original upstairs? does it slide to make a private "party" room? I also was really excited to see a fire place but unfortunately no real fire yet (though I guess its still a little warm out and its my fault for still wearing my "summer" clothes)

they were very accommodating (shut all the front windows cause I was cold) and the bus staff was great with the water.....I love when my glass is always full and its one thing that often gets neglected even at very nice places
our waitress could have been a little better but the table next to us had a guy that seemed great so I guess its the luck of the draw (then again that seems to be a common issue in JC), we did have a little issue (the risotto) and she never did the 3-5 min after you get your plates is everything ok check which would have solved the issue right away (she did comp dessert though which was nice)

I will definitely be back though and I think its a great little place! excited to try some of the other stuff --- the salads and pasta dished looked great! also I like that they are open for lunch....

Re: FISHERMEN VERSUS OUTDOOR WEDDING PARTIES ON PIER
Home away from home
Home away from home

I can't comment on what the pier looks like after a wedding but any time you go down there it is gross from the fishing-- blood, guts, dead fish, half-dead flopping around fish, guys peeing in the planters

I am not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to fish but it seems that it's a little out of control to me. I am afraid I am going to get "hooked" by some one casting off, or slip and fall on the mess out there

I have said this in another thread but it seems that people think that public space is actually their own private area to do as they please - a little consideration of others would go a long way

also I agree that if the Marriott rented me that space and they were out there fishing bride-zilla wouldn't even begin to explain my reaction

Re: Do we have a dog leash ordinance in JC?
Home away from home
Home away from home

i think that it is very inconsiderate for people to allow their dogs to not only be off their leash but also running around/ chasing/ playing / growling at each other - about 100 feet from a dog park.....why is it so hard to think that maybe the other people running/ walking etc on the harbor walk might not want your dog jumping all over the place - there is a specific place for your dog to get a chance to run with out a leash please use it!

I know everyone loves their dog and thinks that s/he is the exception but some people actually don't want to play with your "puppy" and find them to be a PITA

I went to world fruit farm today (cause of your suggestions) and it seemed clean-ish not corporate super market style but not nasty bodega either

they had a good selection of fruits and veggies.....most of them much cheaper than I would get at A& P too

the zucchini for $0.79/# vs 1.99 and cucumbers 2/$1 vs 3/$2 (or sometimes $0.99 each) was nice since I go through a few of those a week - also ripe mangos for $0.50 each.....I just made some mango salsa and guacamole....yum!

I am now a two timer....went back for the big blue salad today and it was great - it was such a nice day so I walked the length of the liberty walk at the park and back but couldn't stop thinking of getting something yummy for lunch - decided to skip the sandwiches for a salad and I am glad that I did - it was delicious....now get some menus so I can drool over them at home and motivate to walk down there

went in for lunch yesterday and it was delicious - looked around in walkers apothecary while they made our sandwiches I had the second one on the menu (I forget the name but it was some cheese and tomatoes w/ a tomato pesto type sauce- he even threw in some olives for me ) and my friend had the veggie -- they were both amazing
she also had an almond pastry and was in love!

delicious, fresh and so willing to accommodate special orders

I was dreaming of my lunch all day might have to go back and try another today......I want that tuna salad
