Board of Education elections
Home away from home
Home away from home

Does anyone know if there is a webpage/pages/articles about the actual platforms of the candidates running for the Board of Ed?

I've searched for a few individual names and it seems all they have are facebook pages without much substance.

This article has nothing of substance either: http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... rsey_city_school_boa.html

I have often found info on School Board candidates hard info to find and wind up skipping that line on the ballot because i refuse to cast an uninformed vote. I'd prefer to have the info to enable me to vote.

you really don't want to increase funding for libraries?
To each his own, I guess, but to me this comes across (and yes I have read more than just its title) as one of the best reasons possible to issue debt. Then again, I'll never ever support lowering funds on such a valuable institution, so I guess I'm pretty one-sided.

Trick or Treaters typically don't ring random doorbells, as buildings have numerous apartments in them and they can't be allowed in to roam inside. If you sit on the stoop at 5pm I imagine you'll get passers by.

Unless something has changed, Trick or Treating usually happens on the 31st in the early evening (like 5pm, give or take).

Please source your assertion. Not saying it's not true, but random person on the internet saying something does not count as fact.

As said earlier, if new construction you need a C/O, but otherwise the C/O continues to be valid. You may be confused because some towns require a CCO (cert. of continued occupancy) but last I heard JC doesn't do this.

+1

Re: Solomon, please provide info on his planning experience. He has background in policy but not planning, best as I can tell, and in fact some of his platform is rather contrary to what would be considered traditionally "good planning." Open to the info you may have on his background.

For anyone still following this, I wound up finding and using Tri-State Dent Removal out of Rutherford. They are a mobile service and came to me, completed the job on-street in just about 45 minutes, and the car looks great for significantly less than traditional body work. Very friendly service, too.

He did great in Jc when it was the only show in town. But I guess just couldn't keep up with all the other great paces opening up there. like cellar 335 that are being run by experienced hospitality people.

Who are you that you first accuse someone of suspected substance abuse and then advertise for Cellar 335? Come on now.

I have scuffs on my rear bumper - what I meant was that this was the first dent/ding I've gotten in the 15 years of parking downtown. And that wasn't even gotten while parked on the street, but rather in a parking lot!

Thanks GrovePath! I've parked on the streets since 2002, and this is the first dent, so I consider myself lucky.

Jersey City 5th-most expensive in country to rent 1-bedroom apartment: report

Jersey City has always been seen as an inexpensive alternative to living in New York City, but it certainly isn't cheap to live in New Jersey's second largest city.

In fact, Jersey City is the fifth most expensive city in the country to rent a one-bedroom apartment, according to a personal finance website.

The median rent for a one-bedroom apartment here is a cool $2,200 a month, gobankingrates.com said. Jersey City ranked behind only San Francisco ($3,395), San Jose, California ($2,505), New York ($2,395) and Washington, D.C. ($2,271

3% allowing pets cannot possibly be right. I've rarely found a place that said no to pets.

Re: Cell phone antennas in PAD
Home away from home

In order to get an approval they almost always show a coverage map. Do you know that the same carrier has antennas on top of 150 Bay? Because one might be AT&T and the other might be Verizon.

Also, to address the two neighbors across the street from one another - wireless signals are more or less a line of sight. So it makes sense that this would happen. If there's an antenna on top of a building, the sightline runs diagonally from the building down to the other buildings, it is entirely possible that it will only hit one side of the street. Or, even more extreme, it may cover the units on the south side of 150 Bay but not the First St. side.

There is also a law in place that prevents a town from blocking cell phone carriers where there is a gap in coverage. So if there is a space in PAD that isn't covered, there will be an antenna on that building or one very close by. Depending on the other buildings in the area, they do strategize the best location based on sightlines etc.

I'm not sure if there would be a gap in coverage. There are apparently cell phone antennas on the roof of 150 Bay Street.

Anyone know if the new Hard Grove has a website or menu online? Looking to see if they have vegetarian options. The only menu I can find online lists their address as on Grove St. so I assume it's completely outdated.

Are all their permits in order?

Was that their plan all along.

Out of spite, demolish of an historic building on Newark Ave, transfer their liquor license three times (3) ... Newark Ave, Montgomery St and finally the Porto... well they are lawyers so they don't have to pay anyone but them selves... so to speak.

Well good luck to them. Not that they would be so nice to anyone else.

Not for nothing, but they didn't demo the building. The building next door burnt down (which is a whole other conspiracy that I won't get into here), the demolition of which undermined the structure that Hard Grove was going in to. I can't imagine a scenario where Hard Grove would rather be at their current (new) location than in the heart of the pedestrian plaza. They lost a TON of money because they were so close to opening on Newark that the spot on Grove was closed and they were therefore out of business for years over this.

I have no reason to defend them but your post clearly has some ill will and is factually incorrect.

It is astounding how selfish you are.

Also, read a book. Your grammar is terrible.

Look, terrible things happen, but if a road was blocked in NYC there would have been alternative roads. That is not the case in JC. So yes, I did bring up the city's plans to narrow the lanes for bikes because it will only bring more congestion to this city. Even the turnpike and parkway allow for movement of traffic when there is an incident. The truth as they say will bring freedom. Do not be afraid of the truth.

Well I guess we know in advance that the fat slob Yvonne will probably fight against the Grand St. redesign with her lies. I wonder if she's ordered the VVPA to officially oppose it yet.

And the world knows your parents were a failure at raising a young man with no manners. Thank God, we are not related, I would be embarrassed by your Godless behavior.

It takes some nerve to call someone Godless when not more than a handful of posts up you were CERTAINLY not loving your neighbor.

the tacos seem a little high priced (I'd expect $8-10 for 3, not $5 ea), but the "for the table" section seems on point, price-wise.

I'm looking forward to checking this place out sometime soon.

Agreed. Such things should be better advertised. This one is simply on the radar of the public more than other events due to the fact that it's actually really good. Word of mouth should not be the only source of info.

Also agree on the lack of publicity. This is about the only one worth spectating, IMO. And IIRC, last year year they went down Jersey then East on Columbus (not Newark) or maybe it was East on Newark to Barrow then south to Columbus. Not through the pedestrian plaza...

Route used to be - I THINK - south from Hamilton Park, east on Newark, south on Grove. Is this correct/still true? Don't remember if the ped plaza on newark changed that.
