first, there are so many things wrong with that NYP headline. nothing in the story shows that anyone's getting harassed. and technically the reporters at the JC office aren't WSJ reporters. something I'd like to know is why harborside isn't unionized to begin with.

That is the NYP for you though. They've never been too good at accuracy. Harass is a strong word to use. It implies a lot that isn't there.

Unionization is per physical location. Why the JC location isn't a part of the union like the rest of the company is strange. There was a previous article written by her the other week about the company's offer to the union. It was pretty insulting.

Yeah, if you don't know what I mean by "driverside".

How about port side since its under the Hudson.

Anyone know anything about that advertisement that plays if you look out the "driverside" of the PATH coming from NY to Exchange Place? .. I had to go into NY for work today and saw that. Very cool

An interesting fact .. Janet Whitman used to work for Dow Jones at the Jersey City location she is reporting about. She left for the NY Post about 6 months ago.

NYMag,

The biggest problem I see is that the development going on doesn't afford much (if any) room to stores beneath it. In neighborhoods you have corner stores and the like beneath homes and buildings. Near the waterfront you have very limited places to choose from, which makes it less neighborhood-like.

That's my only gripe so far, and for the record, the car I own is one of the most stolen in the state and it hasn't been touched since living in Jersey City. When I used to live in a suburb in Central Jersey thieves tried to steal it twice. I don't notice the crime that people mention in JC, so it is neighborhood to neighborhood like any place.

I have to rave about the free light rail. It's free, right?

I heard months ago about Whole Foods coming to Jersey City from area locals to the building/shopping complex being built now next to the James Madison off North Blvd in Newport. Not sure where they heard about it but that was the plan. It would make more sense around there because of all the affluent highrises.

I've always wondered what that raised area was - figured it was an old train way. The top picture isn't really plausible because there is a Bed, Bath, and Beyond at that far corner of Marin. It would be an expensive undertaking to bring the pathway down to street level at that point, in my humble opinion. I think the idea is great and I put my comments in on that survey. I have this odd love for trees ... Friends say I mention them and appreciate them more often than is normal .. Though I'm not a crazy who is going to hang around the PATH stations crying about it.

I hope this gets done, but ya know how it goes - $$$$$$$

Re: Jersey City Skateparks

I'm originally from Sayreville so am familiar with all the guys responsible for the skatepark there. It took mostly a lot of lobbying by Troy (part owner of NJ Skateshop - www.njskateshop.com) to get the money for the park, and to get the park done right. If enough people in JC got together to really push for this, show up at council meetings, etc, then it may get done. It took some time though.

Pictures of Sayreville Skatepark

If any of you aren't that familiar with Jersey, it is easy to get there. NJTP south to Exit 11 .. Take GSP to Sayreville exit (after toll booth). Make left at stop sign. Right at light onto Washington Road. Go for about two miles. You will see John F Kennedy Park (Kennedy Park by locals) on the right after the ShopRite center. Takes about 30 minutes if you drive like me. =]

Not familiar with them, but try to avoid Robinsoak Management run buildings. They're the worst.

Hamilton Park has somet things to skate, but I am not sure if police kick the skaters out of there or not. I don't skate anymore but I remember seeing the cement pyramids in an alien workshop video or something. A lot of the skaters downtown just seem to use curbs or boxes of their own.
