when I saw there was a unit there for sale, I did some googling.. there's some info about who built it, when, etc. on some JC history sites. I thought about going to see it, but decided that corner is just too busy compared to where I'm at now... dying to get an idea of what inside's like though!

im glad its not just me.. our building TRIES and TRIES and it's literally SO random and So unpredictable, I don't even fight it anymore. I too throw a LOT out in "opaque" bags into regular garbage knowing it's just NEVER going to get picked up.

the short answer here is : good luck, sister. They pick up what they want, when they want to. We've had perfectly sorted clean glass and cans left, boxes picked up on one side of the street and not the other, proper recycling NOT picked up since my kind neighbors dropped dog crap bags on it. You have no choice but to bring it to work, take it someplace else, or march it right back inside and hope they take it next time.

of course, it doesnt effect me personally at ALL. I'd just like to see whoever it is making effort to improve my adopted hometown be given at least a CHANCE to prove themselves before they're judged.

yes, i know this is for exchanges of ideas, etc.

BUT CAN WE PLEASE ATTEMPT TO GIVE THESE PLACES A SHOT? my GOD its not even OPEN yet and it's "i give it year". Same with Gulf Coast. ALL DAMN DAY we bitch this town doesn't have enough, where's the nightlife, how come we dont have , etc etc etc and when we DO get it, it's overpriced, awful, sucks, i hate it, I give it a year, they looked at my crosseyed, etc.

YES we all expect quality and service and value. BUT could we have a LITTLE bit of optimism? To their credit, it sure don't look like a PAYLESS anymore.

Gun shop owner: Thief used distract-and-grab scam

The owner of a Downtown Jersey City gun store described a smooth con today that left the shop short a $575 gun and left a thief with a James Bond-type weapon for who knows what purpose.

At 6:45 yesterday evening, two men walked into David?s Sporting Goods and Self Defense store on Second Street at Newark Avenue, owner David Murray and police told The Jersey Journal.

One of the men took out a roll of $20 bills, saying excitedly that he wanted to buy paintball equipment.

While Murray was preoccupied gathered up a paintball gun, paint balls and other equipment, the second man walked over to the glass gun cabinet, reached over it and grabbed a Walther 380 PPK-S -- all caught on the store's security video, which Murray showed the Journal. The man stuffed the gun in his pocket and runs out of the store, the video shows.

Moments later the other man takes the box full of paintball equipment and places it on the glass cabinet, blocking the view of the missing gun, the video shows. As the second man and Murray are finishing their transaction, the man's cellphone rings.

?As he was checking out he got a call on his phone and said ?Oh, the car?s on the meter. I still got to give the guy the money,'? Murray said.

That man then bolts and Murray looks over to see the gun gone.

After realizing what happened, Murray ran outside where people waiting for a bus said the pair ran away south on Monmouth Street, police reports said.

Murray drove around the area looking for them and then returned to the store and dialed 911, reports said. He said the pair looked familiar and may have been in the store recently to case it.

The video captured clear images of the face of the man who took the gun and police got his complete hand prints from the top of the glass cabinet. The other man was also captured on the security video but a baseball cap blocked a portion of his face from view.

Murray said he hoped the prints and video would lead to the pair?s arrest and ?they wont be able to steal, rape and commit more crimes.?

Stealing a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer is a federal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison, Murray said.

Murray has some gun troubles of his own, having recently lost his "carry permit'' after an incident in the neighborhood where he shot into the air after a heated exchange with someone blocking his car got physical and he said he felt his life was in danger.

For what it's worth, I don't know anyone here personally (if I do I don't KNOW that I do anyway), I never had a ShoutBox commented (when I tried) responded to, and I don't much care. I was away a day for work and came back to see this whole situation, and from an outsiders persepctive it just seems like a whole lot of Ding Dong School to me. Can't we all just get along? It's a community bulletin board, people...

All good points Ian.. and in fact, of course, its happening RIGHT NOW with the three level Home Depot begin built ON TOP OF a three level parking deck two blocks from Target. Somehow, though, I cant see, even in 15 years, that Target lot going SUPER high density, but what do I know. I think I swore nothing would ever happen in Metro Plaza, and a week later they announced Pep Boys was going to that huge Architectonica tower.

No no no.. this isn't The Ellipse. That's being built IN Newport by the Lefraks... on a pier practically IN the water. Same architectural firm though... this is an entirely DIFFERENT building. I have to eat my words I never saw anything about building on MetroPlaza until now... I guess it's "good" the ShopRite is stayin' for better or worse, right?

Looks stunning though.. SO much more distinctive than the ugly boxes we're currently getting.
