Re: PRESERVATION OF POWERHOUSE TO BEGIN

Just can't stay away

The Powerhouse is a great building. I live in the Dixon Mills building and I can tell you, after moving from a cookie cutter development, it was welcome change. Today's construction is shoddy and you just won't get "real" construction like the power house and the Dixon Mills building anymore. Not to mention the death of the brick structure. If you don't like, you are most certainly welcome to a) move to an apt that doesn't overlook it or b) leave.

The Powerhouse should be made into a community center with a climbing wall and a bowling alley, art galleries, hopefully a Chelsea Market style market or even a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. This will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Re: Is Jersey City New York City's 'Sixth Borough'?

Who cares if its the sixth borough or not? Bottom line is, it's a fantastic place to live, it's culturally diverse, there's A LOT to do, it's close to everything, you can live here car free, you can live here (relatively) on a budget, you can get anywhere using public transportation ... should I keep going?

The only thing lacking in the area is a decent grocery store but I'm sure some developer has realized that already and is looking to bring in the likes of a Wegmans or TJ or WF.

How are these "mega" developments going to sustain themselves if our neighborhoods are lacking basic community spaces (no place for kids to hang out - like bowling alleys or sports rec centers), decent grocers and butchers, retail spaces (mall is ok but buying local is better for our economy) and most importantly SAFETY? Are they planning to bring in these sorts retailers with them or just bring in big buildings that inhabit residents but have the residents go to different towns (Hoboken and Manhattan) for basic necessities?
