It appears that the news will be shifting in the other direction after last night.
It's midway through the fifteen day allotment dealing with the crisis. The new hype will now be "let's get back to work. You'll see testimonials from people who've recovered etc., etc. America lives on a two week news cycle. The good thing is that all of the protection stuff that is being made will be stockpiled for the next chapter. This, unfortunately won't stop: https://www.foxnews.com/world/what-are-the-wet-markets-coronavirus Stock market will roar today into the green.

https://www.theguardian.com/environmen ... ponsible-for-covid-19-aoe
I was talking to my friend last night who just finished her undergrad in anthropology and international politics. In an exercise of sharing conspiracy theories of the Corona virus, she suggested the Gaia hypothesis - are you familiar with it? It was developed in the 1970s by a chemist and microbiologist. In short, it suggests that organisms co-evolve with their environment and Earth may be considered a single organism. So humans create the man-made stuff (cars, factories, planes, and so on) which directly impact the chemicals and gases in our atmosphere which directly effect our water, light, radiation, temperature, soil. Then those impact our natural world (plants, animals) over time. That being considered, viruses like Ebola or Sars or most recently, COVID-19, can be considered Mother Nature fighting back. Confining us to our homes, shifting the way we work over night, shutting down harmful manufacturing plants, lifting smog from entire cities, bringing tourism to a grinding halt, clearing up traffic jams on every continent....all so Mother Nature can take a breath of fresh, clean air and show the world how harmful our daily, normal activities are to her health. As drastic as the measures now being taken by governments all over the world may seem, she knew a deadly virus would be the only way to get the kind of attention needed to address human ignorance. The deaths caused by COVID-19 or any other virus actually, is the Earth's immune system trying to clean itself. To add a layer of satire, Mother Nature transmits the virus through the animals we are killing to feed people. Overpopulation is the biggest threat to our world after all. For example, sustaining a food supply for billions of people poses an enormous threat to the atmosphere and ultimately, the livability of the Earth.

Has the air quality inside the theater been improved?
I'd love to return to it, but I had respiratory issues for days after my last visit.

I taught high school for a little over ten years and retired at sixty-two.
Though there are many wonderful people in the craft it has to be said that longevity, not merit brings high salaries. The longer one stays in the job, the more one makes; so why leave? Young people entering the profession are faced with lower salaries and longer times to get their steps to higher salaries. So, as a rule of thumb, the best and the brightest pack it in while the long term people stay in place. As a result the system becomes stale and less productive.

I disagree with your assessment. I'm a little concerned that marginal "historical" figures will become subjects to be studied as the curriculum grows. I may be wrong, but let's see.

People should take a little time and study up on the life of Alexander Hamilton (and as well his benefactor George Washington). They were not the historical figures portrayed in modern history.
This book is a great revelation concerning the character of these two: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36149040-apostles-of-revolution

My grandparent's home was across from the Montgomery Gardens (Projects). After WWII Urban renewal plans were allotted to level all of those blocks right down to the turnpike. Families had no choice and had to get out after a decided upon fee was paid. Neighborhoods disappeared in a short time around Fremont, Wayne, Montgomery etc. It was quite a wrenching experience for families. In actuality, there was nothing wrong with the homes, businesses, schools etc. which were demolished, it was a political decision. I don't recall the slums or mud huts that are being alluded to here. Were any of the posters there when it happened? I was. Generations of families were moved from in many cases the homes that they were born into. Today those homes would be assessed at ridiculous amounts and taxed commensurately.

So many factors contributed to the changes in Jersey City from the sixties onward. All of them contributed to white flight to the suburbs and a replacing of the cultures and practices mentioned in the article.
Looking now at what's become of some of the wonderful neighborhoods that existed in my youth I just shake my head in bewilderment. But then, everything changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

I remember back in the fifties walking into an Italian deli on Brunswick street with my Grandfather. He would use a big metal scoop to take the cavatelli out of a burlap gunny sack that was in a keg.
I can't describe what Italian pastry tasted like back then. A cannoli and the pasta chote had taste that still linger in my memory. There was a baker--I think on First street--called Umbep. He was a beautiful man--always gave you a little something when you went into the shop. There's still some old timers in my father's neighborhood on Colgate who remember. If you're lucky they're out in front of their houses when the sunny weather rolls in come springtime.

Even though murders tend to be everyday occurrences in our times, there is something especially heinous about this poor woman's death. She was all alone in the United States. Maybe she was just responding in a kind way to her murderer. And as well, I don't recall the lake ever being part of so horrible a crime. People will always think of what happened there in connection with this horrid act.
I know that not all of the people who come here as illegals are vile creatures as was this cretin, but Mayor Fulop still should be careful about disregarding the laws of the land. He made this guy feel welcome, offered sanctuary to him and he brought danger to Jersey City with that welcome. For shame....
