Re: Michael Yun for Council - Heights Ward D

I go to a lot of places on Central Ave for veggies and fruits but when it comes to some things you can really only get at a super market you're just out of luck unless you go down to A&P or ShopRite. All of these little super markets have very limited selection of personal care items, and you have to ask someone to get your toothpaste at Supremo or C-Town. While they both have cold cut counters and small butcher sections, Stop N Shop on Central does not and they are open the latest of all of them. Honestly, I would prefer to not buy my shower gel and razors from 99Central.

As for the Post Office, at least Secaucus has parking.

C-Town on Central Ave is better than that sad excuse of a Stop N Shop.

This guy is the reason we still have a dirty old Stop N Shop on Central Ave. I was at the city meetings years ago when he crashed the meeting with a slideshow about how a new Stop N Shop would make the Heights dirty, full of traffic, and increase crime.

Any thoughts on Mr. Yun's qualifications, as compared to Fulup's candidate Sean Connors?

I think Yun is a smart choice for the Heights, IMO.

Interesting, why user1111 would you choose Mr. Yun over Det. Connors? Mr. Yun moved to Jersey City from Nutley about a year ago. Det. Connors has been here for years.

I think Yun is use to a better quality of life coming from Nutley, and perhaps he can bring some of that to the Heights ... Connors is use to the same $HIT! Also Yun has been the most vocal of keeping the street sweepers, have not heard too much from Connors.

Your argument makes no sense. And seeing as how Mr. Yun has been voting in Jersey City for the last 30 years......just saying. And like MDM has pointed out, Mr. Yun fought like hell against the new Stop and Shop which would have brought badly needed ratables. Mr. Yun's argument against the Stop and Shop was that it would kill business on Central Ave. What business pray tell? Also as head of the CASID he does play a part in promoting Central Ave. We have had in the neighborhood of 30 empty stores , some in excess of 10 years.

You need to make a better argument other than because he lived in Nutley & Connors is used to the same old same old. Many of us have lived here all our lives & are fighting like hell to improve things.

so with pulaski closed, witt-penn closed all weekend, all we will have left is 1&9 truck over the great bridge that 2 cops plunged into the river when the drawbridge alerts were faulty or taking the turnpike and paying $4 for 3 miles. not that i don't agree with pulaski closing, it's a disaster waiting to happen, but witt-penn is closed all weekend and it doesn't look like they are doing much other than setting up cones and laughing at motorists who have to take fish house road.

I think the gigantic roaches are more the reason why I would never go back there though I think dogs don't belong in laundromats.

Re: Property values in the Heights (post Sandy)

i'll take my home near riverview fisk park over my old home by hamilton park. i get triple the space (2.5 bedroom) plus shared yard, parking, storage, and for only about $200 more than i was paying for a small one room apartment on erie.

i also find that my utilities are much cheaper up here even though the space is much bigger and the public transportation requires less walking to path stations and merely waiting across the street or on the corner for the bus to port authority. WIN.

Maybe you should go to C-Town and 99 Cent Dream and pick up some cleaning supplies and do the cleaning yourself if you don't want to pay people competitive wages for doing your grunt work.

Back of an alley huh, seems shady to me.

There happens to be parking garages in those alley ways. There's nothing shady about putting your car in the garage and hoping to get home safe.

Proper lighting or even extreme illumination to ward off bad guys. Either get the auto type that senses people walking by or just suck up the electric bill and leave it on all night.

This was 3:30 PM, in the afternoon, broad daylight. I see many people walking their dogs, riding their bikes, working on their cars with garage doors open in that area.....it was broad daylight.

I rented a spot in that alley way for almost 2 years and came home at all hours of the night from work. There were motion sensor lights on a few of the garages.

How about the fact that they waited until the FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL to start tearing up the streets so not only do we have to sit in traffic due to roadwork but also have to deal with the school buses being back all at the same time.
