woo boy that's as authoritarian and fascist as it gets. I'm not surprised though, Republicans called any critics of GWB traitors as well. Those tactics stretch back to Joe McCarthy and beyond.

Maybe a good time to drop a quote by Republican hero Teddy Roosevelt:
Quote:
The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.

Of course, people were calling him a traitor for criticizing the President during WWI.

Blind obedience to the state and silencing of critics is something used in places like Iran, North Korea, and Russia. It's disturbing to see conservative "freedom-loving" Americans embrace it.

The Trump photos published by CNN and everyone else were taken DURING the speech.

Resized Image

How the hell could it be 6 hours before the inauguration? Sunrise in Washington DC is 7:21AM. The inauguration ceremony started at 11:30AM. You're saying this picture was taken at 5:30AM while it was still dark out? WHAT??

It's such a ridiculous thing for conservatives like you to be arguing against. It's plain as day and you can see it with your own eyes. And so what? The Northeast has a lot more liberals. Obama was a unique candidate and generated tons of hype. Trump has really low approval ratings. Of course he's going to have a smaller inauguration crowd.

It's really disturbing to see so many people ignore facts and so willingly spout complete lies, and slandering everything they don't like as "fake news" despite it being either objectively true or just biased.

This headlong charge into willful ignorance that Monroe and millions of other Trump supporters are doing is frightening. When a large segment of our population looks at objectively true facts and decides to say they're fake. When so many people would rather take the word of a pathological liar than their own two eyes, or scientific researchers, or journalists with sources and documentation. Then what the fuck hope do we have?

I'm not so much worried about Trump as I am about people like Monroe that are gleefully embracing the 2+2=5 philosophy of 1984. It's not just ignorance, but complete misinformation. I hope people wake up and don't fall for the classic gaslighting tactics that Trump's team is using, because if they do our country is going to continue sliding to a Russian political system where there is no objective truth.

LOL

This report is a joke
Quote:
On June 11, 2016, Omar Mateen, a US-based radical Muslim, attacked a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 and injuring 53 more. In a call to 911, he clearly laid out his motivation. The attack was driven by his allegiance to ISIS and desire for retribution for attacks on ISIS. Incredibly, after the attack, numerous high profile media outlets blamed the attacks on what they perceive as the antiLGBTQ atmosphere that Christians have created.

In short, Christians in the US are facing constant attacks in the media, where they are portrayed as bigoted, racist, sexist, and closeminded. The characterization in the media may be translating into direct attacks as well. The First Liberty Institute, the largest legal organization in the US dedicated exclusively to protecting religious freedom, documents such actions and reports that attacks on religion doubled between 2012 and 2015.

More importantly, Christians and all religious people are being marginalized through the law. From the case of a Christian football coach suspended for praying at the 50-yard line, to Christian business owners forced to pay a $135,000 fine for declining to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding, the number of troubling cases directed towards Christians has exploded.

In 2011, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship lost their official recognition as a student organization in all of their respective chapters across 23 California public colleges. This occurred because the Christian organization required their respective leaders to uphold a doctrinal statement of Biblical principles, which allegedly conflicted with California State universities? policies. After four years of embattled negotiations, InterVarsity regained their official recognition in June 2015.

In 2014, Eric Walsh was terminated one week after being hired by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). The basis of termination was alleged undisclosed income from prior employment in California. However, the Georgia DPH knew that Walsh was a Christian preacher outside of work and went to great lengths to review and investigate the content of his sermons posted on YouTube. Georgia officials have even requested copies of Walsh?s sermons, despite prior statements that the termination had nothing to do with his religious views or affiliations. Walsh is currently suing the Georgia DPH for wrongful termination and religious discrimination.

The rise of these cases stems partly from a broad cultural shift towards secularism. The Pew Foundation found that those identifying as non-religious in the US rose by seven percent, to 23 percent of the total US adult population within just seven years (2007 to 2014).

Anti-Christian entities have been able to leverage the growing secularization of society and culture to their advantage, utilizing the courts as a preferred venue to gradually marginalize and silence Christians. Using the cudgel of ?equality,? secular forces in and out of the courts have worked to create a body of law built from one bad precedent after another. Claims of intolerance and inequality are used to fundamentally distort the clear intent of the First Amendment.

The Founders carefully and deliberately placed religious freedom as the first liberty because it encompasses several fundamental rights including thought, speech, expression, and assembly. The First Amendment explicitly grants freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The essential aim is to protect the right of citizens to practice religion in the public square.

Decades of accumulated poor judicial decisions and precedents have twisted the First Amendment so that the courts, in defiance of the Founders, are pushing religion out of the public square, and into the small space of private expression. In essence, the courts are deciding that you only have full religious freedom and expression in the church and your home. In the public domain, your religious views and thoughts must be restrained and controlled. This trend is extremely worrying in the country that has long held the ideal of religious liberty.

While there is no comparison between the life of a Christian in the US with persecuted believers overseas, ICC sees these worrying trends as an alarming indication of a decline in religious liberty in the United States.

wah wah wah I don't get to use public funds to promote my religious beliefs, and I don't get to discriminate against people and hide behind my religion. I'm so persecuted!

Filipino President Duterte, who has admitted to murdering people and is encouraging vigilante justice and street murders against drug users while being a drug abuser himself, and who is going to give away the South China Sea to China.

Benjamin Netanyahu, who is pretty disliked around the globe, and who is currently being charged with taking bribes and with fraud (just like Trump was charged with fraud and had to settle).

The pair of you can't just spew out your comments without them being rebutted.

Both you and Yvonne have a 'caveman' mentality - Coed scouts have existed for over a decade in Canada and other western nations: Some might like to live in the past and sometimes I wish we still performed lobotomies, because I would like to nominate two from JClist to have the procedure done to.

Coed scouts exist in the US too, run by the BSA actually:

http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Venturing/About/venturing.aspx

Working to organize a Venture Scout group in the kid's area (and getting the program expanded to younger ages) would probably go a lot further towards helping this child than harassing the BSA into begrudgingly letting the kid in (which isn't going to happen either way). But that would take too much effort, of course.

Oddly, I agree with Yvonne on this (except the counseling thing, which implies being transgender is wrong). A child this young has not even gone through puberty yet, and children this young frequently imagine themselves to be dragons and helicopters and have imaginary friends. Think back to what you were doing when you were 8 years old, and if you would have had the mental capacity to truly understand what it means to say that you are transgender. Think about how many times you've had to scold your child because they won't even eat food, and if that's the kind of person you would trust to make this kind of important decision.

I have a feeling that this is another case of a child expressing some childlike feelings one way or another, and a parent has decided to use their child as a political prop in order to show off how progressive they are and actively encouraged the kid to live a certain lifestyle. Let's see how this kid is feeling after they go through puberty, or if they grow out of this in a year or two.

I am a very liberal guy and supportive of lgbt rights in general (hell, look through my arguments with Yvonne on gay marriage and the NC bathroom bill if you don't believe me), but this is clearly a case of a parent using their child as a tool so they can yell "hey look at me, I'm so caring and understanding!"

If you think this child should be accepted into the Boy Scouts, then why not push them to accept all girls? Which by the way, they do have a program called Venture Scouts which is available to everyone, which this child could easily join, except that the mother clearly wants to stir the pot.

This reminds me a lot of that child prodigy Republican who gave speeches all over the country. The kid just regurgitated speaking points his parents fed him, because he was a child, and is impressionable. When he grew up and got into high school he became very liberal. Children don't know what the hell they're doing. I can guarantee this is the mother just pushing her own agenda on the child.

Yvonne Balcer is a local home-owner, pothole-sitter, council meeting attendee, gay marriage doomsayer, busybody, oppressed Catholic, and parking lot advocate. She sometimes has good points on government misbehavior, but it is overshadowed by things like the time she said Candace Osborne was racist for voting to turn a city parking lot into a building.

She is the go-to person when the local news needs a quote from someone who is concerned about something.

You can also find her making her voice heard at town hall meetings.

the honest truth is that NJ needs to end pensions altogether, and convert current pensions into 401ks. They are unsustainable, and the public unions have negotiated outrageous deals in order to support politicians through the years. Police, teachers, office workers, everyone gets crazy pensions. At least JC ended the policy of paying for lifetime healthcare and pensions for city workers even if they didn't complete their 20 years in JC but for other cities.

It's obvious you don't live on the same planet as me, because this is completely false.

ID is not required to go to the ER, and most people without ID are going to the ER because they also don't have insurance (I've worked there before, I know). ID isn't required to bury a loved one. Seriously? You think someone needs ID to die? That body isn't going to just hang around til someone finds ID. You don't need ID to play the lotto. I have never once been asked for ID when turning in a ticket. ID required to return an item? What?? Home Depot asks for ID but still gives you a return if you don't have it. ID isn't even required to rent an apartment, if you find the right landlord.

The way you think life should be is not necessarily how life is, and the simple fact is that there are a lot of people out there without ID. Hell, in order to get a state ID in NY or NJ you already need two other forms of ID. It's insane.

The problem with people that push for ID voting is that they assume everyone else has the same cushy life that they do, without realizing that a lot of people don't have the time and money required to get an ID. If voter ID laws come paired with laws that make it easy, free, and fast to get an ID then fantastic. But usually it's the opposite and you have to jump through a bunch of hoops instead. Would you support a companion law that makes it easy, free, and fast to get a state ID, without needing another form of ID? If not, then it's obvious what your motives are.

Voter ID is a solution in search of a problem. Get over it.

Why exactly do you think these Democrats are breaking the law and registering dead people to vote? For the fun of it?

And to answer this specifically, it is because Democratic leaning organizations tend to run voter registration drives on college campuses and urban areas where it's easy to target large numbers of people in a short time. Republicans do well in rural and suburban areas where voter registration drives aren't as easy to do.

Many of these organizations pay people for their time, and some of them attach incentives if people hit certain targets for number of new registrees. What happens is some worker who is lazy will fill out a bunch of random information and turn it in. Usually, these organizations are required by law to turn in everything unaltered, to make sure they don't toss out opposing party registrations.

This is exactly what happened to Acorn. Some workers got lazy and filled out forms for Mickey Mouse and other nonsense. The organization wasn't intentionally trying to commit fraud, they were the victim of lazy workers. But simpletons like you get a hold of it, don't understand how voter registration works or the difference between voter registration fraud, voter fraud, and election fraud, and they run with it.

The main problem to come out of instances like this is that Republicans see a loss in an election and instead of thinking "how can we improve ourselves and our message?" think "why are all these blacks and hispanics and liberals committing voter fraud?" and try to make laws that gerrymander districts or suppress votes in Democratic-leaning areas by cutting polling stations, voting hours, early voting, onerous registration laws, banning registration drives, and other ridiculous things.

THIS IS EXACTLY MY POINT! You don't even understand the difference between voter registration fraud and voter fraud!

Committing voter registration fraud doesn't require you to be successful in the act. The example in that article is a perfect demonstration of it. Someone tries to register dead people for voting, or for Mickey Mouse. The elections board reviews the registrations and says "of course this person can't vote."

See? It's incredibly easy to fill out a registration form for whatever you want. Actually getting that registration accepted and then getting somebody to show up and vote is an entirely different thing.

The main occasion when voter fraud happens is when somebody votes early or by absentee ballot and then shows up to their regular polling place to vote again (which wouldn't be stopped by ID laws). And guess what?? The election board catches that stuff! Just like the example posted in that other thread.

You say you want proof that voter fraud isn't an issue, but the proof is out there, constantly, in easy to find places, and yet you will willfully ignore it to push this stupid narrative of a problem that does not exist.

Even if there were hundreds of cases of voter fraud each year (which is an extremely generous estimate) it's not enough to sway any election.

If you really are concerned about elections being stolen, you should be concerned about laws that disenfranchise voters, or voter roll purges, or the fact that many ballot boxes are easy hackable electronics that have no paper audit trail and are proprietary software being handled by private companies. THOSE are the real issues.

Not some random jagoff like Ann Coulter voting twice in an election.
